Right on! Cut shiat during a recession! That will TOTALLY work!

FTFA:

"Mr. Osborne said Britain's welfare costs had risen over the last 10 years to £192 billion from £132 billion, an increase of 45 percent. "

I can see why the racist, xenophobic Brits are behind this. I'm sure many see this as disproportionally effecting the Muslim immigrant population...thus, they're OK with it.

Cool, they're trying to stay afloat. Maybe they'll take 300m refugees when our economy destroys itself. Or maybe we'll control our spiraling debt problem too. Just kidding.

The answer to both is because we're a Keynesian economy on the edge of deflation.

I don't like how our economy is structured, but I'm not quite so derptarded that I think fixing it is as simple as pulling a plug.

They did a little bailing too.

We really should raise taxes, and we should increase social service spending as more people need them, not the other way around. Hell we should take all the out of work construction guys and get them updating our infastructure. The reason we can't has something to do with selfishness, fear, polling and democracy.

That's how it is here in the States. When I went to Spain, shopping was much easier because you saw what you paid on the price tag. No hidden taxes where you have to play guess-the-rate or anything stupid like that.

/much better system

I don't know if every person in the UK or some other country with a VAT knows exactly what the percentage is, but it doesn't mean that people don't know how much they are being taxed. Plenty of people here in the states either know how much they are paying in taxes on gasoline, smokes, or booze, or they don't care.

Maybe if your mum started paying tax on her income--

Hang on, wait, that was reflexive. Sorry about that.

How about taxing big companies and raising duty on things which I have a choice whether to buy or not, things like cigarettes and alcohol and foreign holidays. How about a tax on any television bigger than 24 inches? Or on second cars? How about cutting benefits for every child past the second (hey, we need to discourage population growth).

I got into serious debt problems in the early 2000s. I had bailiffs at the door on a regular basis. All those other bastards with huge TVs and six cars were taking four foreign holidays a year and I didn't see any of them coming around to help me. Now I'm back on my feet and they're falling over, I'm expected to help them? Fark 'em.
