i do not shed a tear for these afghani soldiers. i do not think the united states was unjustified in it's military operations in afghanistan, even to the extent of inflicting minimal civilian casualties. i do think its farked up to revel in the loss of life, and i pity the fact that these people were brought up to make what i again think are farked up decisions about life. i'm not stupid or naive, i do realize that war is necessary, that killing is necessary. i just think that to enjoy the slaughter of enemies is disturbing, and that it seriously impedes the progress of civilization.

but, then again, i'm just a liberal kid from boston, what do i know?

Actually, I do have a lot of sympathy for German soldier stuck in WWII. A lot of them were much like Iraqi soldiers... caught in the conflict of love of country and love of not getting shot in the head for not fighting. Still, when your country tells you that you are on one side of a war, and my country is the other side, you are still the enemy. Sucks to see you go (in the most mentally-removed of terms), but them's the breaks. The world consipired to pit me vs. you, and I'm in the AC-130.

(Of course I'm speaking figuratively, as I'm a huge pussy who wouldn't be caught dead in a war)

Mofomisfit, through all that, I think what you fail to realize is that even us 'pro-war bastards' think much the same way as you do, but choose to express the "they deserve it" part more emphatically than the "but they're human beings" part of it.

I know I feel for those poor people on the ground, but there's only so far sympathy can go with the enemy... especially this enemy. I'll bet that if you went to the ground an hour before hand and talked with these people you may have a completely different opinion. I give the benefit of the doubt to our intel, not terrorists consipring near a mosque.

It's always amusing to see people getting upset over images like this. War is war. People die. That's the point.

These aren't just some goatfarmers who got caught in the path of a pilot with too much time on his hands. Yes, they died. Killing is never pretty. But how is hosing an enemy soldier with 20mm different from shooting him with an M1 garand? Besides the fact that after you shoot him with the M1 he'll bleed to death for 4 hours? I don't wish to celebrate killing, but isn't getting it done quickly, safely and effectively preferable to long, bloody firefights?
