ARGH, just look at the time stamps, this is weird!

How utterly ridiculous. Fine with me if you don't take up Taekwondo, I'll be able to kick your ass in the upcoming holy war.

"As Buddhism essentially is reformed Hinduism, so too the Martial Arts are essentially Martial Yoga. Few westerners have enough experience with Zen Buddhism to initially notice the hidden religious nature of martial arts.

Oh, it's so clear now! Buddhism is reformed Hinduism. Gee, gosh, Christianity isn't a diluted version of paganism, Judaism, and Islam, now, is it? Naw, it's born and bred PURE, just like how all Christians are!

As for the secret, dark nature of Zen Buddhism, which has oppressed the world for so long with its Crusades, inquisitions, and dominated many a humble people, perhaps we should put warning labels on dojos and training halls indicating:"WARNING! HIDDEN RELIGIOUS NATURE OF MARTIAL ARTS INSIDE! CHRISTIANS BEWARE! OUR GOAL IS TO INCULCATE YOU WITH LIFE-AFFIRMING SKILLS AND THE CHANCE TO RECEIEVE ENLIGHTENMENT THROUGH (quoting Bill Hicks) A LIVING GOD WHO WILL TALK DIRECTLY farkIN' TO YOU!

Ok, I'm gonna go meditate.

I like how he quotes a John Ankerberg book to support his case. Yeah, THERE's an unbiased source.

Back up, fundy, before I KARATIFY your ass!

Sorry, bud.. Can't agree with you... And neither will the entire membership of the GMAU.. (Gospel Martial Arts Union)... :-)

I have no problems with people abstaining from whatever due to personal convictions or beliefs, but when they try to convince others (other believers even) that there is no other interpretation other than their own, and they are the only ones that are righteous, then is starts to get ugly...

Oh yeah, and Fumanshu: Please note, not all Christians have their heads stuffed firmly up their asses. Like in any demographic, there is certainly a sufficient share of them, but to say that Christians are somehow any more ignorant or any more "bad" than some other group is pure bullshiat.

Fundie #1: "We've got a problem. There's an outfit training potential Christians in the ways of Eastern philosophy.
Fundie #2: "Blasphemy! This must be stopped!"
Fundie #1: "Yeah, but they can kick our asses."

I love his phrase "occult breathing". Honestly, Christian zealots may call me confused, lost, misguided by occult influences, but to me Eastern beliefs are much more practical to humans than Christianity, whose main focus is the Lord. Hearing the Gospel never made me feel as good as an hour of peaceful meditation (or a good kung-fu flick) ever does.

Fumanshu has the right idea... quote Bill Hicks. Generally works for me.

And JimDunlop, regular run-of-the-mill Christians are just like other people. Fundamentalist Christians, on the other hand, are all a bunch of utter, utter loonies, just like fundies in any religion. Just we see more of 'em in the western world.

And this wasn't Chick? The mind boggles

2001-10-06 12:33:37 PM
Whoa... So I suppose I'd better avoid Christian monasticism as well. All that contemplative prayer and silence meditiation and the like. Makes one wonder how the Buddhists managed to infiltrate 4th-13th century Europe.

2001-10-06 12:46:16 PM
Everytime I think the fundies just couldn't get any stupider, they pull something like this out of their ass.

2001-10-06 12:50:59 PM
if this is true, I think I'll go with the religion that teaches me to kick ass over the religion that tells me I shouldn't masturbate...

"According to the Official WTF Taekwondo book..."

WTF?

This guy is soo silly...
Silly little man...

Someone should make a convincing argument as to why true followers of x-ianity should refrain from communicating with the world for fear that the devil will twist there mouths and work as speakers for evil...ya...I only take x-ians seriously that have taken oaths of non-communication by words of mouth or pen (or computer)!
Any others could be just the devil fooling us and should be put on ignore.

silly little fundies.
(still better than the muslim extremists...not by much though.)

oh, I have an idea...x-ian fundies should feel compelled to be the first to run into Afganistan as the shock troops against the heathen religion teliban...carrying a sword and a cross...and no karate stuff...besides, someone has to clear the landmines out of the way...

Thats my 2 cents

Cause we all kown that Taekwondo is the pinacle of all martial arts </sarcasm>

I swear people are so stupid. It give all religion a bad name. If you wanted a copy of "how to weave baskets" to have underlying anti-christian implications you could find them. The reality is spirituality even Chritian spirtuality can be persued using meditation techniqes prominant in real martail arts. Its all about balance.

2001-10-06 03:57:52 PM
1 word... "stupid" ...that is all. (where do people come up w/ this crap? you'd think there'd be something actually worth doing when you get out of bed.)

He who uses a Tae Kwon Do form in a real fight is merely practicing kata until his opponent gets tired of watching it and beats his ass.

Jeet Kune Do is the way to go. Practical, efficient, street fighting method made by Bruce Lee. 'Nuff said.

Who gives a shiat if it's religious? If one enjoys it, one should participate in it.

Fark the religious aspect. Jesus H. Christ, America, get over this Puritanical attitude about other religions, or lack of them.

Freaks.

2001-10-06 05:48:23 PM
Ok as a practicing budhist I would just like to say <sarcasm> resistance is futile, you will be assimilated </sarcasm>. But seriously, that is such utter bull shiat. There is no great spiritual conspiracy behind buhdism and martial arts. Infact most of the masters before the 50s forbade the teaching of the more spiritual side of martial arts, saying that westerners were "lacking spiritually". Does this sound like the words of somebody trying to convert people to buhdism?

I'M GOING TO HELL BECAUSE I'M IN JUDO!!!!

SAVE ME JEBUS!!!!

I prefer the Boneless Chicken Style of Kung Fu.

2001-10-06 07:47:12 PM
Da Cracker, I don't mock your religion, don't mock mine.

2001-10-06 09:48:51 PM
Religion is a mockery unto itself. I love the way that you stand in line, and beg salvation from the empty skies.

2001-10-06 10:04:12 PM
My first Judo sensei was a devout Pentecostal; and about as evangelical as you can be. I'd love for this guy to tell him he was a blasphemer.

Oh my God/Allah/Buddha

I've been in a freakin' occult for most of my life and i didn't even know it! thank god you informed me of my warped "religion" I'll be quitting karate immediately for fear of an eternity of damnation. You ass.

2001-10-08 07:08:10 PM
And all this time I thought that earlier, Eastern philosophies led to later, Western philosophies.

I stand corrected. Boy, is my face red.
