OHHHH NOOOO
At least he didn't go play golf.

Oh well. Hopefully the company is held accountable for their actions and he may be a douche but that doesn't mean he has to hole up in his house and only come out for public floggings

Hayward is prolly one of the infamous "old boys club", totally incapable, but the boys got each others back while making some dime of the "small people".

Outrageous and appalling. Simply shameful. WTF was this asshole thinking? Bob is a terrible name for a boat.

Big deal.

He's a phone boss. He knows nothing of how to solve the problem, and even if he did, he'd just make a call to the people who actually implement it. He can do that from a boat.

I'm pretty sure people will hate him for doing anything but swimming down there and putting his mouth over the leak. Even if he sat in his house just worrying about the problem, there'd be an article on him sitting around not doing anything.

Thank you for commenting on the only thing I cared about in the article. The name of the boat.

I think you're only going to see the PR disaster crank up to 11 over the next month(s) - but only for him. I think BP is deliberately trying to make him the focal point of hate to take some of the heat off the company itself.

2010-06-19 01:39:15 PM
He sounds like an idiot. Not because he's not in the Gulf 'overseeing' things, but because he named his boat 'Bob'. Seriously, what kind of derp looks at a yacht and says, "Hurrrr, it's bobbing! We should call it Bob!"

Isn't one of the main reasons he gets paid so much is to take the heat when it comes? I have no tears for this douchebag. He's been well compensated for his public humiliation.

This guy is paid an isane amount of money because he ostensibly is insanely better than the next available option to increase BP shareholder value.

How does this action increase BP shareholders' value? Perhaps the next best alternative - who perhaps might have a clue how PR really matters at this point in time - ought to replace Mr. Tony.

Bob will be in the race along with other corporate-mogul-owned yachts, Carol, Ted and Alice.

My first thought was "not if he's racing". Then I thought about it some more and realized that he probably has a crew. Now I agree with you.

And when he's given the axe as the company needs a scapegoat, he'll only get an 8-digit severance package. His parachute will be merely silver instead of golden.

NewportBarGuy: Isn't one of the main reasons he gets paid so much is to take the heat when it comes? I have no tears for this douchebag. He's been well compensated for his public humiliation.

No, he gets paid so much because he successfully ran a completely unrelated business, and some idiots think that "success" is some kind of universal commodity carried more by specific people out there. He doesn't have a clue how to run an oil company that *isn't* farking up an entire gulf, let alone this situation.

He has probably never even seen an oil drill. You could line up twenty different ships in front of him, nineteen of them with sails on them, and he probably couldn't tell you which one of the twenty was an oil rig. He has never met the team who caused this accident, nor would he know what to say to them if he did. Somewhere out there is a single guy whose actions were the official catalyst in a series of related events that caused this disaster, and Hayward would not be able to tell you his job title, let alone his name.

The only reason anyone blames Hayward for *anything* that occurs in the gulf is because people on the whole are stupid and jumpy animals and they need a face to aim their anger at. Once that leak is plugged, the press will distract you away, in less than 24 hours, with the latest white girl kidnapping.

Nah. I just saw it for what it was. You saw it as an opportunity to knock Obama (not that you've ever done that before). And since I missed all the bashing going on upthread of your comment, perhaps you should be so kind as to enlighten poor, non-comprehending me.
