If you're eating spaghetti from a can in the first place, well...you deserve whatever you get.

FTFA The USDA said there are no reports of illnesses associated with the product and Sanzio said the company has received no customer complaints to date.

Duh! Anyone who eats spaghettio's has a cast iron stomach and no sense of taste.

Campbell spokesman Anthony Sanzio said the company is recalling certain lots of the product manufactured since December 2008 "out of an abundance of caution" because officials don't know exactly when the cooker at the Paris, Texas, plant malfunctioned.

Given the news of late, this is a refreshing attitude.

Just how long do gristle flavored soy balls have to cook?

Okay. Comment about an ad on the link. Yes, I know you all use AdBlock, but holy cow that was terrible.

An ad for Bing vomited all over the screen and started playing a movie WITH SOUND at the highest volume possible. This, from the master marketers at Microsoft. You'd think they would know better.

Man I used to farking love SpaghettiOs. I wonder if the 15 million pounds measurement includes the weight of the can. Either way, that's a lot of recallin'.

Hey, I grew up eating Spaghetti-Os upon rare occasion... I still get Walmart house-brand, because it's a cheap and easy meal if I'm lazy.

And... I'm lucky on getting the house-brand in this case. heh.

Thing is, the "house brands" are usually made by a company that usually makes many different "house brands". Not sure if they manufacture anything other than their brand. I'm assuming not, since they didn't name any other brand but SpaghettiO's

Except those house-brands are usually off the same production lines or at least the same locations, all sharing the same or similar equipment, right up to labeling.

I know they're like little poison pills, but I love me some Spaghettio's now and again. This story just makes me want them more.

I almost always opt for the meatless ones anyway.

gopher321: If you're eating spaghetti from a can in the first place, well...you deserve whatever you get.

Not when they say it's fully-cooked, which I think they do.

Also, would you say kids stuck scrounging for their own lunches deserve food poisoning?

And yes, the SpaghettiOs nowadays taste a lot different, and pretty gross. It's not just our changing tastebuds, but because they've gone to cheaper ingredients. Same thing with a lot of the junk food snacks we used to eat, like Little Debbie cakes, etc. Some of that is because they now use different oils and waxes.

I wonder if they're relying on adults with kids not trying the stuff and just remembering what they ate as kids, or marketing to parents too poor to have a lot of competing convenient options.

A few years ago, when I was a bachelor and didn't live with Mrs. Willicus, I would occasionally indulge in a can of Chef Boyardee's finest.

I was also drinking a lot more then, so that might have something to do with it...

FTFY. Chef Boyardee never owned Spaghettios (actually, Franco-American's always been a division of Campbell's, so spaghettios never changed hands since its development in '65)

I think we all know the only acceptable pasta in a can product is Chef Boyardee's ravioli.

I'm a hypocrite, yes. But they're tasty. We all grew up slicing those pockets open and scraping out the meat inside.

I'm getting a kick out of these comments as I'm eating out of can right now. It's cat food, but that's another story.

The meatballs were always vile anyhow.

Mrs Clam gives me grief about how SpaghettiOs smell, but I love those things. A big bowl, a glass of whole milk, and it's like being a kid again.

I know that technically SpaghettiOs is spaghetti in a can, but since I grew up making my own spaghetti sauce, the two items have always been completely different. It's like comparing thin-crist pizza with Sicilian.

2010-06-18 07:55:16 AM
They actually cook that stuff? I always figured it was sort of... cultured.

I do have to admit though that I occasionally indulged in a can even after I had a good-paying job - non-meat, with lots of milk added, and usually some extra salt. It was one of my comfort foods, although what exactly it was comforting me by doing I have no clue. Now I can't eat a large percentage of the processed crap this country calls food(Celiacs), and most of it I don't miss at all. But for some strange, bizarre, suicidal reason, right now I do miss Spaghetti-Os :(

felidstar, you're not missing much. Spaghettios are terrible now. I have no idea what they're putting in that sauce these days but I can't eat them and neither can my kids.

When I was about 12 I was walking my hometown enjoying the carnival. I hear a retching noise and look up to see a toddler proceed to vomit his spaghetti Os all over the sidewalk a few feet in front of me. It looked like it had just come from the can - the sauce had the same red color, you could even see the individual 'o's.

This is the reason I can not eat spaghetti Os to this day. I do, however, enjoy the ravioli.

Meh... I prefer the frankfurter ones over the meatballs anyhow. I have a couple cans in my cupboard as we speak.

My thing about Spaghetti-O's is that they have to be HOT, like almost too hot to eat. Otherwise they just taste extra-nasty to me. A couple dollops of BBQ sauce (not too much) makes them much better too.

I had a thought the other day... A "Full American Breakfast" (analagous to the Full English Breakfast) : Bacon (there's gotta be bacon), scrapple, toasted Wonder bread with tons of jelly, grilled corn-on-the-cob, scrambled eggs with cheese and ketchup, along with a nice heaping helping of Spaghetti-O's... Maybe a donut and coffee after.

Makes my heart hurt just thinking about it. And believe it or not - that would sell like crazy in some places in this country.

I prefer Alphaghetti or Zoodles. It's fine when you're starving but I wouldn't really call it food. It's something to keep you from getting the hungry headaches...or something to eat when you're really drunk and shouldn't be using the stove.

There is not much worse than trying to puke Spaghetti O's after a drunk spell.

The heaving, the having to seal off a nostril with your finger and spray Os out yer schnozz, having to take a deep breath and really blow the sticky congealed ringlets of nastiness out. And the smell. Good god, the smell. That sour tomato smell that never goes away from out yer nose.

After beer is the worst, because then you get blood red beer foam that you get to spend a half an hour heaving, and the more you heave, the more foam there is. It looks like you are vomiting chunky menstrual blood. And if you think about this while, or after you just got done blowing chunks, you'll blow chunks some more.

Of course, the worst possible thing that could happen at this point is if you do this in public and some hobo comes crawling out from his pee soaked doorway and asks you "Hey pal, you gonna eat that?" and then proceeds to have himself a hot lunch.

2010-06-18 09:12:45 AM
Mildly alarming since I actually do eat the spaghettios cold, and even right out of the can if I can't or donwanna do dishes... But I hate their meatballs so no worries for me.

Headline will now forever remind me of Queen Tilli:

If asked what he expected from the last quarter of the twentieth century, the King would have replied, "Now that it is no longer reasonable to hope for the restoration of the monarchy, my fondest wishes are that the Seattle Mariners win the pennant, the Seattle Sonics make the NBA playoffs, the Seattle Seahawks go to the Super Bowl, and that the play-by-play announcers be replaced by Sir Kenneth Clark."
The same question directed to the Queen would have educed this reaction: "Oh-Oh, spaghetti-o." (Her favorite Americanism.) "Vat can you expect of crazy peoples? I'm happy only zat mein vadder and mama mia are in zee Heaven and not hafing to suffer from no stinking modern times. Sacred bleu! I do my duty to zee crown and das ees zat." The Queen had learned English in seven capitals.

I used to take cans of assorted boy-r-dee stuff camping, and eat straight from the can.. too lazy to heat up the can over the fire.

havent eat em cold in years tho. had a can of spaghettios with meatballs the other night (yes i had a ton to drink, was starving, and in no condition to operate anything but the microwave).

just forwarded this to Mrs Force to check the couple cans I still have.

\also agree with earlier posters.. goes great with a big glass of milk
