I kept expecting to see little flashes as heavily armed people went flying by the camera, engaged in a deathmatch.

Ever been to a steel mill? Most of that's steam.

no, it isn't... vimeo sucks so bad... audio skipping, constant freezing... what pathetic crap they dish out.

Ah, Magnitogorsk. Once the pride of the Soviet Union, now decrepit, heavily out of date and barely able to function.

Works well for me.

I thought it was beautiful. As were the rest I watched, especially the snow one.

And almost incomprehensibly big. Over a mile long.

That was an awesome video.

Thank for sharing, subby.

This video sucks because your internet connection is bad? Your criticism is bold and incisive. Do you have a blog?

Very impressive. I'm pretty sure that we have nothing like that left here in the US.

But we have more fast-food restaurants per capita than any other nation on the planet. Yay.

And why does the steam/smoke seem to be escaping from every possible opening, except for the smoke stacks?

Because they're not steam stacks. Duh ;)

nothing on vimeo works, ever... I don't know how they are routed here, but it sucks. I have 10meg service and all other video sources work great. vimeo never has....

Worked perfectly for me. No skipping, freezing, anything. It was pretty damn cool.

And subby was correct, that was probably the best time lapse of a Russian steel mill I will ever see. One of the best time lapse videos I've ever seen.

I know the machines are pretty much the whole show, but I always appreciate seeing what the humans are doing in such large buildings.

The video worked very well for me and was resolutely sharp.

For those of you who like to read check out Robert Preston's "American Steel" about the start up of Nucor's plant in Indiana.

My thought at the end was: I wonder which video game I will see this in - followed by: I saw some excellent sniping spots.

I have a shiatty wireless connection and as long as I let the video load up about half way it looks as good and runs as smooth as Youtube. I do the same thing at Youtube also.

Pretty cool video.

+1 for the video, with a bonus point for the Klaus Schulze soundtrack.

Nice find, subby

Ah yes, Koyaaniqatsi. Lovely stuff. I saw Glass perform it live in Stamford CT, many years ago, with the film projected on a screen behind the band.

Nothing personal, Smubby, but that was one of the most boring clips I've ever seen.

No great photography, nothing really happens, not even much in the way of time lapse.

Nice music, though.

Bela_Bar-talk: I know the machines are pretty much the whole show, but I always appreciate seeing what the humans are doing in such large buildings.

Trying not to get killed or maimed while doing there job.

I was on-site at an aluminum injection molding plant when a guy has his arm chopped off then cooked in the machinery in front of him. Freaked me out.

One of the few times a "see... ever..." headline actually lived up to the hype. Thank you Subby, that was awesome.

\Also, a video game with that kind of image quality would f'in ROCK.
\\And the video played just fine for me.

Brainmask: q.v. Detroit, Michigan.

Jesus christ I love Fark.

1. Post video about non-American something
2. Make critical or negative factual comment about non-American something
3. Wait the 0.0018 seconds for someone to pull a "But America!" out of their ass

Thanks for being that guy.

/Vimeo is fine both in quality and speed. If you're having a problem, it's a problem on your end.
