At which point do we begin to tax these for-profit enterprises?

The whole Big XII-II south will kick themselves in about five years for blowing a very good opportunity. Oh well, this wont last, the walls have already cracked.

I thought I was going to see a college football playoff system while I was still in my 20s. Now? Not so sure.

So the idiot on ESPN who was saying the Big 10 was being upstaged by the Pac 10... is still an idiot.

Interestingly, at present the Big 10 has 12 schools and the Big 12 has 10.

2010-06-14 10:43:57 PM
Subby, it was all about money anyway. If they bolted for the PAC-10 you could use they exact same headline just change stay to go and Big 12 to PAC 10.

2010-06-14 10:54:14 PM
Well, that will make a good friend of mine happy. He wasn't following this and when I told him his Sooners were going to the Pac-10, he was horrified.

My estimation of Big 12 commish Dan Beebe just went way up. For a few weeks there it looked like he had been completely outmaneuvered by Delany.

On the surface, it looks like the deal will double the TV money for the lesser teams while allowing the big teams to make additional money on non-network games.

I just hope Oklahoma and Nebraska commit to a non-conference rivalry

I have a sad feeling that it was so mismanaged by the Big XII that it lost it's luster. It may be many years before that's renewed.

Orangebloods.com has had the inside scoop on this whole thing, and reported this this morning.

I think to survive they need to bring in TCU and maybe Utah to make up for the loss of Nebraska.

you tell a bunch of sooner fans that they can go hang out in lincoln every other year and tell a bunch of husker fans that they can hang out in norman and luster just doesn't matter.

Either one sound like a personal hell to me. At least we get to keep Dallas as the location for the Red River Rivalry for a few more years.

How quaint.

We don't need anymore sub par texas teams.

Does this mean that the Big XII is now the Big 10, and the Big 10 is now the Big XII? Because god forbid the numbers in their names should be reflective of how many teams they actually have in their respective conferences...

Yep, very mismanaged. I really believe that without the Huskers, this league is doomed.

Amending that... I suppose it would make them the Big 12 and the Big X conferences.

In any event, I'm glad the one with Texas stayed together. Curious how they'll work the north/south divisions now. Maybe they'll bring Arkansas and one other team in -- I still miss the old UT/Arkansas rivalry.

Sucks to lose the Huskers, but TCU really could add something to the table if brought in. The Horned Frogs have been really stepping up their football program the last few years.

/Too bad they just beat us out of the CWS in the first round

General consensus is Arkansas ain't going anywhere. They're just hunky-dory in the SEC.

Notre Dame would also be an interesting addition, but that ain't gonna happen either until they get forced to join a conference for money reasons.

I don't think there'll be divisions anymore...each team will be able to play each other in the regular season then no championship game.

i don't think the ncaa even allows a championship game for conferences with less than 12 teams - isn't that one of the catalysts for the big ten expansion?

correct.

10 teams do allow you to play each other during the regular season, however, as the Pac-10 has done in crowning its champion.

I'd prefer the 12 teams that allow the championship game, its better for the fans and better for the conference.

Assuming that the conf. championship game is purely about $$$, I would think that getting back up to speed with that would be a huge priority for them then.

TCU does make sense. Not sure what direction they'd go for a 12th, though.

that seems kind of close-minded, i mean there are literally a million reasons (new window) to love nebraska.

2010-06-15 12:15:22 AM
I find it humorous that Texas's greed was what killed the Pac10 deal since they tried to make last minute demands of the Pac10. Yet the Big12 members are fine with giving Texas the lions share as long a they get to nibble at the edges. No wonder Nebraska wanted out. What a farked conference.

Aggies Regents you ignorant sluts. I am very disappointed in your lack of balls in not joining the SEC.

Damn.

So the Big Ten has 12 teams and the Big 12 has 10 teams. Makes sense.

2010-06-15 12:20:59 AM
Good news everyone. After considering some wonderful offers from the Big 10 and SEC, Mizzou has decided to grace the Big 12(-2) with its presence.

What's that, no actual offers? Uh, we were in some pretty heavy discussions. No? The Big 10 only said they might add us as their 16th team? That's something, right?

Honestly, part of me is happy to see the wacky shotgun wedding that is the Big 12 continue. I'd bolt in a second if anyone actually wanted us, but the basketball will be fantastic and the nine game conference schedule for football will be fun.

Losing CU hurts me, because Gary Pinkel seemed to own Hawk. And I will miss the Huskers, though I welcome the loss of their paint-drying basketball team to the land of paint-drying basketball.

well, the speed things are moving, an invite to the bigXII would yield more $$ if the TV deal Beebe worked out is really on par with the SEC.

With the addition of Boise to the Mountain West,I think TCU is right where they need to be. Sec is obviously on top, but the Pac-10(USC) is suspsect. The big 12 is suspect now. The big 10 is hasn't won a whole lot out of its conference either.

I'm just going to come out and say it, the Mountain West might be the 3rd best conference in the nation. They could get as high as 2nd I think. If you had to choose the last few years of TCU, Utah, BYU and Boise vs Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska and ????, who would you put your money on? I think people are actually catching on too. Who would have thought TCU/Boise could pull an 8.23 in the TV ratings?

P.S. Add me to the list of people disappointed at the lack of chaos. After all the speculation it ended up like the "OMG NCAA TOURNEY 96 TEAMS!!!" hoopla in that only small changes were made. Also, for pure entertainment value go check out TexAgs, their messageboard is going nuts. They're like the little brother that thought big bro was moving out and was promised their very own room only to find out the status quo remains.

You make it sound like it was their move to make. Could be wrong, but I'm kind of getting the impression that the SEC stories were more wishful thinking on A&M's part than anything. Don't think their balls really entered into it.

/"aggie balls" sounds like a highly undesirable confection. no thank you, none today.

damn! no playoff system! oh well. the public spoke and the officials spoke: we aren't listening.
This seems familiar. We need change in the financial dealings of the current Wall Street system! Yeah about that, Congress demands a playoff system because Utah laid a whooping on the second best team in the SEC way back in 2009! What an injustice!

If that's your your definition of destroyed, I worry for my armed forces. That was when we gave Thompson the start over Bomar but tied an arm behind his back play calling wise, also Peterson's ankle was messed up. The coaches lost that game, but destroyed is not close. (I was there) Besides, if the Fiesta Bowl was an indicator of their play, they were way overrated.

I heard two things from a very reliable source*:

1) That TCU & Arkansas were the schools currently in talks to fill those final two spots. Even if Arkansas stays put in the SEC, I'm sure it'll be easy to find someone else to fill that final spot because....

2) The TV deal for the Big 12 just got real sweet courtesy of Fox Sports. Not Fox Sports Southwest... Fox Sports. IMNHO, they need to go after large TV markets, like Houston.

And it's always about money. This whole thing is about money. Don't think you're clever with your little dollar signs, subby.
