Sure the guy did the right thing
But he did do the wrong thing in the first place.

It's cool he gave it back, but i don't think hero really applies.

$100 is awfully steep for a headstone. The manager should just spell the kid's name on a Mexican pizza and leave it at the plot. It's not like anyone's going to take it.

I have seen some people that just can't control themselves. Maybe the sappy tag should apply, and the manager should get a hero tag for not pressing charges or being a dick about it.

A manager at a Taco Bell can't afford a $100 headstone for his own son?

was it in 50 $2 bills?

We just get a story about a man who gave his life to rescue 4 kids, and this asshat gets a hero tag?

WRONG!

The bucket was believed to contain at least $100 donated to help buy a headstone for the gave of Justin Weyland, 19, who died March 20 when he accidentally shot himself with a revolver at a friend's house.

Hero isn't the tag I would have chosen for this story...

His punishment should be watching this video. Incidentally this is also how the manager's kid died, he was killed by a rival taco rap crew.

I would have gave the money back as the food seriously sucks at taco blow. Anyone that likes Vel vetta is an idiot. Grossness is a requirement for those idiots.

Thief who stole $100 from a Taco Bell counter returns the money, which was a fundraiser that was going towards the cost of a headstone for the manager's son

For whatever other complaints I might have, I am not a Taco Bell manager trying to scrape together money for a headstone to bury my child. That is truly saddening. :-(

FTFA: The theft was caught on surveillance cameras and police say that other employees at the Bell had ID'd the suspect as a former high school classmate.

Fear of arrest now equals hero? Holy shiat. I should get the hero tag every time I decide not to masturbate in my sisters bed while she's sleeping because I know I'll probably get caught.

Hey, look at me, I'm a hero.

/Except that one time when she was experimenting with Extacy.

KarmicDisaster: A manager at a Taco Bell can't afford a $100 headstone for his own son?

"According to the 2005 funeral price survey by the National Funeral Directors Association, the average funeral cost for an adult funeral is $6,580.00. This is based on the most commonly selected items for a traditional funeral including a casket and vault. However, it does not include cemetery costs. A grave space, a grave marker, and opening/closing the grave can easily cost another $1,500 to $2,500. Therefore, a typical traditional funeral and burial cost is likely over $8,000.

Depending upon the quality of the casket, burial vault and other merchandise selected, a traditional funeral and burial cost could be less than $5,000 or exceed $10,000. If no services to commemorate the deceased are desired, a direct burial or direct cremation can be arranged for under $1,000."

Yeah, not a good use of the Hero tag at all. Dude was a douchebag for stealing the money in the first place. Less of a douchebag for giving it back but by no means, no Hero.

2010-06-14 08:58:36 PM
Really? So if I kick you in the face, but then spend my last $2.00 for a bandage to put on the gaping wound, I'd get a HERO tag?!?!

Because this whole "steal something and give it back equals hero" thing? I don't get it.

Seeing as how the employees identified him as a former classmate, I don't think the motive was guilt so much as fear of a bloody beatdown by an angry mob.

Are you serious? Are you smoking something over there? HERO? For a scumbag who stole a donation can and returned it after he was ID'ed?
Oh, and headstones cost a whole bunch of money, more than $100, try over a grand for a halfway decent one nowadays. All part of the vulture -- er, funeral industry.
A real HERO, upon realizing the depths of his depravity, would have organized a fundraiser or sold everything he owns to pay for the stone himself.

He should have kept the money. Just about anything a Taco Bell counter thief would spend $100 on is more worthwhile than buying a rock to put on top of the corpse of someone who no longer exists, in this world or the dimension of magical sky fairies. If someone in your family dies, consider dealing with it like an adult and/or donating those thousands of dollars to something worthwhile.

Not trolling.
