Although Forsythe was worried about being out in the storm while they waited for the ambulance, he thought it was unlikely lightning would strike in the same place twice.

Great sense of humor....

I knew a kid who got struck -- he was in a tree when a storm came up. Went in through his leg & blew out an eye. Farked him up pretty good. He became morbidly obsessed with electricty -- tried to build an electric chair out of household items. He refused to answer to anything but "Potato Man" after the accident.

I saw a guy on a talk show one time who claimed to have been hit by lightning twelve times in his life.

...I don't know if it was true, but the guy was definitely hit by something.

2003-05-27 07:09:37 PM
I'd also like to add that bats aren't pleasant to be hit by every day.

2003-05-27 07:10:08 PM
OK, spelling and grammar mistakes are easy to make and they happen to everyone once in a while. But, to completely misquote something in the headline is really hard to overlook.

2003-05-27 07:10:39 PM
I swear I once set a record for the standing longjump after lightning hit about a foot-and-a-half away from me...

2003-05-27 07:12:13 PM
That's shocking news!

/got absolutely nothing

This creepy old lady I used to work with got struck by lightning like 8 times. She was also in 50+ car accidents. Then she dyed her hair bright red and looked like Ronald McDonald. The scariest beast I have ever seen. If lightning and twisted metal can't kill her... I don't know what can.

2003-05-27 07:15:33 PM
Does this improve their chances of winning the lottery?

2003-05-27 07:17:13 PM
If anything, I'd say it decreases their chances.

We get thunderstorms in our valley when the monsoons come up from the south. over the years I've seen lightning blow
twenty square feet of shingles off a house, spiral down a
tree and arc to the house, hit the lake, and plenty of
other close calls. used to go up into the woods (in a car)during them hoping for a good close encounter- thankfully never had one get too close. Now I just sit under a nice
porch and enjoy the light and sound show, the rain, and
the way everything cools off and smells great afterward...

2003-05-27 07:28:32 PM
Wasn't there some paralyzed chick that became mobile again after getting struck my lightning?

2003-05-27 07:32:07 PM
I would love to get hit by lightning. According to everything that I have read, you get magic powers from lightning strikes. I could see through wood (I'd be a vigilante) and such things like that.

"It kind of shakes you up a little bit . . . it's not something you want to go through every day."

-this guy must be the smartest man alive, I nominate that quote as the dumbest quote ever.

anyone remember the guy in "The Great Outdoors" who got struck 67 times by lightinig in the head.

Well....No shiat.

Ah, yes, good ol' FMJ.

I saw the Gunny on Mail Call last night...that guy rocks.

I've also heard about that Press, the man has been on numerous talk shows. Although from what I saw he wasn't THAT badly beat up he was a bit scarred here and there but not that bad. But I don't know if it was 12 or 7 times he was hit, either way I wouldn't want to be him.

Being hit by lightning is "not something you want to go through every day."

But theres only a 10% chance of that.

Don't EVEN think anything like that. My husband was struck by lightning loading an airplane last year. Knocked the daylights out of him.

But he still doesn't get women.

I took a photo of a lightning bolt over Lake Michigan. It was really cool because the bolt went horizontally across the sky for miles.

That's it, I'm outta here.

Being hit by lightning is "not something you want to go through every day."

I would think it was something you wouldn't want to happen ANY day.

I got an electromyography on my arm recently to check for carpal tunnel... The lady there shocked me up but good! I was dancing around after saying, "Wooo! I'm bionic!" while elderly people in the waiting room looked at me in disgust.

I wonder what kind of rush lightening would give me.

2003-05-27 09:35:22 PM
I was thinking the exact same thing Greasedninja

I was struck by lightning. I was in the 8th grade, my mom was like, "If you aren't bleeding and nothing funny is sticking out then you have to go to school"

I started going bald right after that.

yep it hurt, no I wasn't maimed, yes I get shocked alot now by other stuff.

2003-05-27 10:15:14 PM
In fairness, it wasn't the actual victim who smade th comment about "not something you want to go through every day," it was the guy who saw the event and came running up to help. (The victim's remarks are not recorded, but probably included "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Owwwwwwwww! Holy farking shiat!! Aaaaaahhhhh!")

So the headline _is_ slightly misleading.

One day I was sitting at my desk in math class (5th grade) when a thunderstorm came up. Lightning hit the tree outside, arced over to the flagpole and sent a streamer into the classroom window, then the tv, then another kid named Bobby, and then ended at me. Knocked me out of my desk and singed a brown spot right smack in the middle of my shirt. I lay there screaming in agony whilst half the class laughed at me and the other half checked on Bobby to see if he was ok. I asked the teacher to help me or call a doctor and she told me to shut up and get back in my desk. Bobby got to call his Mom and go home. He didn't have a mark on him. I had a 3 inch bruise in the middle of my chest for a month. I hated elementary school.

Then there was that time I was on the phone during a thunderstorm. Lightning hit the line and a neat little orange spark jumped from the mouthpiece to my mouth. Busted both of my lips and made my toungue swell some. I do not talk on the phone during lightning storms anymore.

And then this time I was ginsenging with my Dad in the woods when a thunderstorm came up. We were waiting it out under a rock cliff. Lightning struck a tree on the other side of the holler. The tree exploded. Literally exploded. We were hit by a few pieces of wood. All of them about the size of a pencil. When the storm was over and we walked over to the tree we found some of those pencil sized pieces embedded in other trees pretty deep. Glad I wasn't any closer to it when it happened. Would have been shredded.

I don't like lightning much. I think it wants to kill me.

Lightning hit the transformer outside my grandparents' house once. The transformer immediately exploded and a ball of fire jumped off and headed toward the house, went through the screen door, burning a neat circular hole in it in the process, floated down the hall and jumped on the fuse box. It fried every circuit in the house and all the appliances that were plugged in.

I was coring out an underground cable line during a thunderstorm one day (I thought that since it was an underground line I was safe) when lightning made a direct hit on a pedestal one block down. I got knocked on my ass, however I did not have any injuries. My hair started turning grey one week later at the ripe old age of 27. And I noticed that someone else mentioned that since they got struck by lightning they have been plagued by electrical shock. Same here, although I count many of those as hazards of the trade.

2003-05-28 12:27:47 AM
Wow I guess movie special effects dont mean much after you have had stuff like this happen for real, my hats off to all of you who have survived a brush with lightning.

2003-05-28 01:37:00 AM
Hi. I'm looking for the lightning survivor support group meeting. Is this the right place?
