Haha, so true. I don't work at a PR firm, but at my company we have about 60 VP's and about 15 Sr. VP's.

The product itself (the platform) evolves nearly in real time. It changes so fast it feels as if everything is "beta." One day you'll log-in and notice a different layout, a new button, a new feature or some entirely new integration. The next day the company changes the entire social ecosystem by opening up its social graph to third parties.

And that's EXACTLY the farking problem.

That and default settings set to public rather than, say, prompting the user at next login and forcing them to review their settings for the latest update.

Pretty much. Facebook has done some stupid things, though, like automatically setting privacy controls to the lowest levels when introducing new features.

But the biggest problem is the users themselves. They're like the people who don't like CCTV cameras in public places. They think that they should be able to do whatever they want, wherever they want, and then magically push a "Don't tell anybody about this" button.

No level of privacy controls on Facebook (or anywhere else) will keep idiots from posting photos of their drunken night out or from telling all their buddies how much of a jerk their boss is.

True, but the pro-business types will always blame the customer while making excuses for the company.

But your friends or work can also put photos of you up - even if you don't have an account - and then facebook claims ownership of the images and puts your head on a naked body and sells it to hustler - all legal with their ever changing terms of privacy and ownership.

Dear Facebook:

When I post something to your website, I want only the people who find it funny and amusing to see it. I don't want anyone who would be angry or offended or disappointed or creeped out by it to see it.

For example, last week, I posted that my ex-girlfriend was a slut, and my ex-girlfriend got pissed off. Your servers and computers and information technology should have figured out that I didn't want her to read that post.

Please take this into account when designing your privacy settings.

Also, sometimes my friends post pictures of me drinking beer at a bar, and it makes me furious that you could sell these pictures, as I am sure many, many people want to buy them. You owe me a million dollars.
