It's hard to speed when you're not driving.

2003-05-27 10:23:40 AM
so this is news these days, huh?

2003-05-27 10:37:54 AM
Hell, I'm typing this whil....

2003-05-27 10:42:01 AM
The other 9% are masturbating furously

2003-05-27 10:46:17 AM
It's more challenging when you do them all at once.

2003-05-27 10:47:21 AM
now with rich, fapity goodness

2003-05-27 10:47:40 AM
This is just another reason for them to legalize vehicle weaponry. People woold think twice about doing this crap if they saw me coming up on their tail aiming a 30mm cannon at them.

2003-05-27 10:47:55 AM
Two speeding tickets in the past month for me.

2003-05-27 10:48:04 AM
Wait, at least 9% of the population never breaks the speed limit? I guess it is scary.

2003-05-27 10:48:10 AM
very interesting.

2003-05-27 10:48:47 AM
Should have an obvious tag....

2003-05-27 10:49:09 AM
So whats the problem? You do all three, and you will get to where you are going quicker, smarter, and fuller. It makes for a more productive day.

2003-05-27 10:49:27 AM
well no farking shiat...

2003-05-27 10:49:31 AM
I think Florida is closer to 99.44%.

2003-05-27 10:49:45 AM
Obvious?

2003-05-27 10:49:55 AM
I'm always too busy turning the little wheelie thing and pushing on those retangles on the floor.

2003-05-27 10:50:23 AM
eating is not so bad...but reading while actually speeding and not sitting in traffic grind is scary.

2003-05-27 10:50:40 AM
I didn't see nose picking on the list. It would be interesting to see how the survey was worded. I swear there are days I see 85 percent of the other idiots talking on their cell phones.

2003-05-27 10:51:18 AM
only 91% !!! that surprises me

i once saw a woman driving and she was putting on lipstick!!
i couldnt believe how unsafe and irresponsible she was being, i nearly dropped my electric shaver in my coffee!

2003-05-27 10:52:25 AM
I can't type a long message right now. I'm eating breakfast and reading the newspaper while driving down the freeway.

Well, maybe a medium length message. I've got a free hand.

2003-05-27 10:53:17 AM
I saw a lady eating a bowl of cereal.

2003-05-27 10:53:47 AM
How does cell phone use mix into the headlines percentile?

2003-05-27 10:55:47 AM
Wait until those little tv's get into every car. Think of the fun you could have playing GT3 while driving!

2003-05-27 10:55:51 AM
I think Florida is closer to 99.44%.

Nice classical reference there...

2003-05-27 10:56:08 AM
"Ninety-one percent of drivers of all ages acknowledged at least one risky activity in the previous six months, including 71 percent who said they sped; 59 percent who ate while driving; 37 percent who used a cell phone; 28 percent who wore no seatbelt and 26 percent who used no signal when turning. Fourteen percent admitted to reading while driving."

This must be a local thing because in CA, cell phone use must be around 75% of all drivers and not using a turn signal 25%.

Idiots, the whole lot of em.

2003-05-27 10:58:00 AM
These are the people I have to watch out for when I'm riding my bike...Tampa's pretty bad bikerwise.

Welcome back,JCT!

2003-05-27 10:58:27 AM
What percent are busy paying attention to whether others are speeding, eatring, nose-picking, etc. inetad of paying attention to the road themselves. It's a miracle we survive.

2003-05-27 10:58:35 AM
Eating while driving? The horror!
They forgot to ask about other activities that are dangerous to do while driving, like smoking.
And don't even get me started about chewing gum.

... you will get to where you are going quicker, smarter, and fuller.

More like fatter, deader, and better aquainted with the latest goings on at Hogwarts.

2003-05-27 10:59:41 AM
Hmmmm... I don't read while driving...

2003-05-27 10:59:51 AM
just 91%?

2003-05-27 11:00:00 AM
I do it when I have the chance.. it's certainly not a routine. Ok seat belt.. check
mirrors .. check
ignition.. check
Big Mac... check
Playboy... check
Pedal to the floor... woohooo

Who doesn't speed? If you drive 100 km/h on Quebec higways you better be driving on the right lane!

Then again the Quebecois aren't known for being good drivers... We're just impatient, okay!

2003-05-27 11:00:45 AM
What about dealing with ankle-biters in the back seats? That's got to be pretty high up there. The closest I've ever come to being dead was because of a woman in a 4WD turning round to yell at her kids.

2003-05-27 11:01:31 AM
I wonder who are the rocket scientist who decided to conduct this survey. I mean look at all the other drivers around you...oh wait, you can't cuz you are speeding, eating, and reading...oh what the hell, look around also so you can see everyone else doing the same risky things you were doing. Watching TV and talking on cell phones have to be up there also, this survey must be outdated

2003-05-27 11:01:38 AM
Glad to see I am in the majority for something. And I am one of those bastards in the big truck that will jump up your bumper if you are going too damn slow. God help you if you are on the phone while I am trying to speed.

2003-05-27 11:01:52 AM
Kasural

...and 26 percent who used no signal when turning.

If you see a man with his hand out of the window, you know he's turning right (OK, left in America where you do everything wrong).

If you see a woman with her hand out of the window, you know the window's open

/ducks for cover

I DEFY you to find anyone but ME speeding when I am driving the 12 miles from work to home at the end of the day. There is no real traffic, it's more rural, but DAMN! everyone, and I mean everyone, drives at or below the friggin speed limit. Pussies!

2003-05-27 11:03:35 AM
Anybody who drives with a small dog on their lap deserves a beating.

2003-05-27 11:03:37 AM
I'd like to see the figures if you take eating out of the list. "Eating while driving" is a pretty broad area, considering it could cover anything from eating sunflower seeds to eating a Big Mac.

Of course, I'm one of those drivers who knows that it doesn't matter if you have one or two hands on the wheel, it only matters if you are paying attention.

2003-05-27 11:04:43 AM
Whamdangler

Everyone driving at the same speed = safe
One person driving at a different speed to everyone else = asshat

2003-05-27 11:04:46 AM
Speeding: Who doesn't speed, honestly?
Eating: Fairly common, and can be done safely.
Reading: WTF are you people thinking?

well, that explains why no one uses their freaking blinkers. I really hate that.

2003-05-27 11:07:19 AM
[Raises hand]

Yep, I'm a speeder. The first two months or so after I got my license I did really well by almost always driving right at the speed limit. Then, when I realized that everyone was passing me and that cops don't pull you over unless you're going at least 10mph over the limit, I began driving right about 10mph above the speed limit. I have yet to get a speeding ticket after driving for three years, and I've gotten my car going pretty fast a few times.

2003-05-27 11:07:46 AM
One of my friends crashed while doing his expenses.

It was on the M25 though, so he could be forgiven for thinking nothing was going to happen for a good few hours...

2003-05-27 11:08:39 AM
Speeding is a state of mind. If the limit was 120 I wouldn't speed and thus wouldn't break the law. Why does the goverment make me break the law by setting unrealisticly low limits?

26 percent who used no signal when turning.

Riiight. At least 50% of the remaining 74% are lying. Probably more.

I don't claim to be the safest driver in KY, but I'm one of the only ones who uses a turn signal consistently for ALL turns and for ALL lane changes. One of my 'dangerous' habits is deliberately blocking people in who look like they want to change lanes but aren't using a turn signal.

2003-05-27 11:09:40 AM
The worst are the make-up driving idiots who are not looking at the road, but are instead looking into their rear-view mirror which is turned towards them while they apply their Avon.

2003-05-27 11:09:49 AM
Driving from Boston to Springfield on the Mass Pike, I saw a guy in red BMW 3-Series convertible playing trumpet to his dog. The trumpet would have hit the windshield, so he had to face the passenger seat, where his dog was sitting. And he had sunglasses on, which usually restrict peripheral vision. Maybe he was driving by the reflection in his trumpet.
