Not likely. Unless they actually start biting.

They have one of the largest militaries in the world. But they're not really looking to take over the world. I wouldn't put it past them to invade South Korea, though, if America ever backed down from supporting it.

meh
if NK "invaded" their soldiers would evaporate.
they would disappear.
the people in SK would take them into their homes while they hid.
all of a sudden there would be no NK army.

would be one of the funniest attacks of all time.

Its funny because you think South Korea would be unable to handle North Korea on its own.

/They've been better since the early 90's in regards to training and equipment.
//Not to mention the countless junior NCO's and officers they got that have been brought up playing Starcraft

TFA: South Korea's preparation for psychological warfare, is a "direct declaration of a war" against the North, the general staff of the communist state's military said today in a statement on KCNA.

Um, aren't North Korea and South Korea technically at war? How can anything the South does be considered a declaration of a situation already occurring?

And, really, North Korea? Ever heard of the pot and the kettle?

2010-06-12 04:22:52 PM
South: "You attacked us!"
North: "No we didn't, that's propaganda!"
South: "We have proof."
North: "No you don't, now to show how wrong you are about us attacking you, we're going to attack you."

2010-06-12 04:22:55 PM
SK better not fart in NK's general direction.

Size is less important than other factors, such as training, equipment and, well, being fed. You also seem to forget that South Korea has a pretty big army, too, not to mention the backing of NATO, the U.S., the U.N., and Japan. If war breaks out, it might suck for Seoul for a day or two, but then North Korea's military capabilities would be utterly decimated.

Saw an article in the NYT the other day interviewed some NK defectors living in China.

They didn't necessarily believe everything Dear Leader told them... but they were always ready for war to begin... from either the Chinese or the South Koreans / US.

The ONLY reason someone would want to invade your horrible little country is to rid yourselves of your despot ruler. You are the neighborhood menace.

Look, South Korea doesn't stand a chance. Dear Leader would decimate them by himself with a single gun. And he'd use 38 less shots than a normal person.

more than 10% of their population is in the military, another 10% is in their internal exile/death camps and about 75% of their limited production capacity is idle. The workers in NK haven't been paid in forever and they devalued their currency internally which wiped out peoples savings. The only thing keeping the place running is "illegal" private markets. I give the country about 12 months or less before it implodes. The reason they are blustering is to unify the masses into believing there is a powerful external enemy waiting to destroy them.

Iran is in a similar situation with massive popular discontent. They may implode even sooner. Today happens to be the one year anniversary of stolen elections in Iran by the way so expect some rioting (not that it will get well reported).

I find it curious that North Korea constantly threatens "all-out war" and the like for the slightest provocation. U.N. debate on the Cheonan situation will result in all-out war. Loudspeakers will result in all-out war. Crossing the border even 1 inch will result in all-out war. Additional sanctions will result in all-out war. Etc.

I know the NK government is officially a batshiat-crazy cult, but what's the point of continually threatening the ultimate punishment for everything? They hate being an international laughingstock, but come on, what do they expect?

That's fairly close to my reaction to this headline.

It's time someone put them down.

To paraphrase one of my favorite movies that nobody else on this planet say, North Korea will not be missed.
