lisarenee3505: Dr. Mojo PhD: lisarenee3505: I Am The Egg Matt Drudge Smears Upon His Body: Those colored people sure do get uppidity....

/are they ever going to change the name of their organization?

No kidding! If I called an African American "colored" these days, i'd find myself on the receiving end of a hate-crime.

Yes, because organizations like the NAACP and the UNCF which happen to be widely recognized national institutions should alter their names selected at times when "negro" and "colored" were the accepted, non-derogatory terms. Makes sense to me. I like the added touch of white victimization that you'd be on the "receiving end of a hate-crime", implying that if you called a person what is today a slur but in 1944 when the NAACP was incorporated was not, they would beat you merely and for no other reason than being white.

Yeah, that's pretty much right. Thanks for clarifying that for the rest of the class. Now perhaps you would like to engage your sense of humor and reinterpret my comment in the context it was intended.

Dr. Mojo is actually a small, socially dysfunctional 8 year old boy with a large vocabulary. He does not have a functional sense of humor.

I hope the NAACP organization is buried in the Burr Oaks Cemetery with indignation when it fails the black community again.

Sounding intelligent, and being intelligent are two different things. The NAACP rep sounds neither and is doing the black community a disservice.

Why am I the only one who watched this and wondered, "What part of this story is FOX News lying about?"

Because this is the NAACP, and this is FOX News. No way is FOX News being "fair and balanced" about this. They're omitting something, or distorting it somehow to suit their agenda, or just plain making shiat up.

I'd like a second source for this before I condemn the NAACP. Forgive me, but I'm not going to take FOX News' word for it on anything, because they're a pack of lying assholes that would sell their own grandmother Roger Ailes if it got them ahead on the network.

"There's a lot of racism going on. Who's more racist, black people or white people? It's black people! You know why? Because we hate black people too! Everything white people don't like about black people, black people really don't like about black people" -Chris Rock, 1996

I have a somewhat skewed take on race issues because I don't have to leave my house to hang out with black people. They live here. We laugh about most of this sh*t. We need more of that.

Black people and brown people are allowed to be racists. Women are allowed to be misandric sexists. You hear that "kaching"? That's the registers ringing as the "keeping people convinced that the black /white /brown / yellow / male / female person up the road is keeping them DOWN, man" industry keeps harvesting the gullible. Don't worry, though. All of that mistreatment, real or imagined, shall soon even out as white men just walk away from all the things they built - so as not to offend - and put on the official cloak of shame and the oppressed are doing the happy happy dance in the streets as the bells of equality peal like new year's day. We're all just one unintelligible, coin cell powered greeting card away from the promised land, y'all.

Mmmm. The Kipling is good today. A bit on the tart side, but that can be refreshing.

Of course, since there's nothing exceptional about white folks as compared to other races, I promise you that if white men (myself included) walked away from "all we have built", things would go on functioning pretty much the same way.

Go read "Savage Inequality" by Jonathan Kozol for a good overview. The only reason Bill Gates created what he did was because of the educational and economic opportunities he had by dint of being a wealthy white guy. Unless you're claiming (erroneously) that an above-average intelligence black person with the same opportunities (and Gates had a shiat-ton) wouldn't have accomplished as much, back off the White Man's Burden stuff, okay?

freetomato: I worked briefly (less than 7 months then I moved on for more $) in marketing for a company that makes an extremely delicious light ranch salad dressing in a jar (sold in the veggie section of the market), headquartered in the deep south. I was the admin puke with no authority or respect, so when given the very bland company newsletter, I dove in and took charge and jazzed it up. Added graphics and space fillers (trivia, news to use, etc) to fill the blanks. After the second month, the admin puke in retail (who tacked on the retail stats) decided to get creative and add something "cool" and "interesting" to her portion. She added "the origin of the term "to be fired", as in, in ancient Scotland, an undesirable group's (aka "clan's) soddy would be set aflame to chase them out (how freakin' motivational....ya' bonehead.) Anyway, it got published. The production floor, 99% black here in the deep south, read it. Some of them FLIPPED...THE.....FARK....OUT.... They saw "clan" and "fire" and the entire factory shut down. They interpreted the worst, most obscure meaning into a harmless (albeit poorly thought out)article. The blacks in the offices, the white collar employees, were not offended or outraged to my knowledge, in fact, they seemed embarrassed by the turmoil. Things did calm down, and to this day, you, the consumer, enjoy your Light Ranch dressing.

I don't mean to make any judgement or profound statement, merely an observation. Granted, the chick posting the story about the origin of "being fired" was an insensitive bonehead, to my CA-raised self, this was a dynamic that caught me off guard. It struck me as extreme hypersensitivity to an innocent faux pas. If I am wrong, I trust I will be corrected on this forum.

OK.. people still ARE racist. Racism is still a big problem for every visible minority, many of whom are also racist against each other. Non-blacks do and say terrible things to blacks in North America every day, just because they're black, and the black community still faces endemic social problems as the sad legacy of centuries of oppression.

You say all that like it is proven, but I am not so sure just how much endemic racism still exists. Sure you can find some ignorant convenience store clerk who belongs to the Klan, but that tard has no power or influence.

How much of the ills of Black society are from racism and how much are from an attitude of petty criminality, trying to game the system, and always looking to government instead of relying on yourself?

Wow. I'm sorry, man, but you're full of crap. There are self-avowed members of the KKK in the Republican party. Hell Robert Byrd (the longest-serving U.S Senator) once ran an entire chapter of the KKK in Virginia.

Beyond that, there are any number of studies which show that even in an era lacking in overt racism, racism still exists when it comes to subtle choices, and times when an employer can choose to hire a white guy or black guy of equal qualifications. One need only check out a random sampling of EEOC complaints to see racism alive and well in economic environments.

I'll ignore the whole "rugged individualist" shtick, because frankly if everyone can't see through that we're idiots. We're all the product of the environment around us. Bill Gates was successful due to the opportunities afforded to him by wealthy parents and a privileged upbringing. But, even if we accept that there are lazy, greedy, blacks who are trying to get their money for nothing (and their chicks for free), I'm going to doubt it's a racial thing as much as a "some people are like that" thing.

The whole welfare queens argument wasn't even true when Regan was pulling that bullshiat; it's certainly no more true now.

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.
County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.
Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.
Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."
That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.
Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape."
Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

Have you read more about the guy? He's a total crook and has threatened violence against anyone who dares oppose him, including reporters and government officials. In fact, people who oppose him often find themselves in potential danger, but of course that's just a coincidence. If anyone opposes something he supports, they will be labeled a racist.

He's currently trying to close down local businesses in the community so they can be torn down and replaced by developments owned by some very wealthy, very high profile, white investors. The owners of the businesses aren't going to be paid anywhere near what it would cost to relocate. The developments, if successful, would guarantee that the residents of the area would not be able to afford to stay, and you would see large scale gentrification.

But, of course, he's just out to protect his black constituents.

Dear stupid Knee-grows,
YOU ARE HURTING YOUR OWN CAUSE BY GETTING UPSET ABOUT SOMETHING THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!!! YOU NOW LOOK STUPID. Why aren't you up in arms about East Timur or some other cause relavant to what you stand for? Oh, that's right you haven't been relavent since the 70's. The NAACP is about as timely and important as the musket makers union. While we are at it, Al Sharpton, PLEASE STOP PROFITING OFF OF FAKE ANGER AND MADE UP CAUSES. YOU ARE IN FACT SETTING YOUR RACE BACK 200 YEARS BY BEING A TAP DANCING MONKEY FOR A PRETEND CAUSE. Being heard isn't being right or just it's just being loud for no reason. It's just like when everyone in San Diego was so upset that some college students were advertising a "Compton Cookout" and all the minority students got up in arms, stormed the deans office and demanded free tutoring and free this and free that. Then it was discovered that the party was being hosted by a BLACK student that calls himself ni**er Bob or some stupid shiat like that. Not one of you was a slave not one of you was dragged from your homeland and sold to the highest bidder and no one is holding you back but your selves. Yes there are racist organizations but they wield no real power. I am pretty sure there are a few black doctors, lawyers and successful black businessmen and possibly a black man holding one of the most powerful positions on the planet and everyone of them that reads this story is shaking their heads and saying to themselves "Oh no, not this shiat again." STOP MAKING YOURSELVES LOOK STUPID AND STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL INADAQUACIES. STOP BLAMING SOCIETY FOR YOUR OWN PROBLEMS. Not everything is a racial issue sometimes you are just a lazy worthless piece of shiat, just like Redneck trailer trash white people that blame minorities for taking their jobs are lazy pieces of shiat. It's called accountability and responsibility. It's called picking your battles and not getting butt hurt about every little thing, especially things that don't exist.

Goddammit I am hung over and pissed off. This story has been in the news for a few days here and every time I hear/read it, it pisses me off to no end.

Sorry for any and all spelling and grammatical errors. I just don't care about that shiat right now.

Wow, just wow.

So, because many blacks cannot properly pronounce the word "hole" when they hear it in another context they assume it is the word "ho?"

Seriously, there exists no group of people more racist and hate-filled against black people and injurious to black "culture" than black people themselves.

Black folks: get over yo selfs. Seriously.

/at least this wasn't as absurd as this knuckle head Dallas politician who considered the term "black hole" (even when he heard it correctly) as "racist term" when used to describe a certain governmental bureaucracy.

Not only are there race-hucksters out there encouraging them in these beliefs they have been lead to believe - as in your mother's co-workers' case - that even asking them to do their JOB at the same level of industry or competence as everyone else is is, itself, racism.

People still mewl and cray of slavery and such, but somebody once compiled a bunch of DOJ crime stats and showed that the number of whites murdered by blacks - just since the civil rights era - is something like 7 times the total number of blacks murdered in lynchings, etc.

Point this out, however, and you're a "racist."

The term "racist" has been so watered down these days that it has NO REAL MEANING anymore and, thankfully, it is beginning to lose its power as a conversation squelcher as, for too long, it was about the worst thing you could be accused of being.

Wow. I'm sorry, man, but you're full of crap. There are self-avowed members of the KKK in the Republican party. Hell Robert Byrd (the longest-serving U.S Senator) once ran an entire chapter of the KKK in Virginia

Byrd is a life-long Democrat.

The KKK was started by Democrats & their membership has traditionally been southern Democrats.

Yes, the klan loved all of those democrats who came down south in the sixties in support of the civil rights movement.

That card is so stupid that everyone of all colors should be offended and demand that it be yanked. And then we should stone the farktard responsible to death.

When your organization has become meaningless in the national debate, you try every angle to gain attention. NAACP = meaningless attention whore.

It's stuff like this which screws up my wanting to 100% happily support and help fight for the rights of what MLK talked about - and just completely quit in disgust.

MLK said "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

I don't think he ever foresaw a world where a certain subset of people would use their own skin tone as a way to completely duck the whole "content of their character" part of the deal.

We have seen too many instances where some #$%! used the race card to completely duck the fact that maybe the problem wasn't their skintone, it was their BEHAVIOR.

But no... all they have to do is scream at you "RACIST!" (if you happen to have a lighter skin tone than them) to try to make you shut up and blame you instead. That way they can keep their excuse to duck their own adult responsibility to be a better person in the situation.

There's no excuse for this crap.

I personally don't give a rip about the amount of melanin (skin tone stuff) in another person's skin. I wanna know what kind of HUMAN you are, not based upon your appearance.

If you are cool, if you believe in bettering yourself by educating yourself about the world and it's possibilities; if you have a positive and curious open mind, hey, let's happily hang out and talk. You could be someone who looks like some sort of strange I-don't-know-what for all I know, I don't care about that. Just be a person I can admire for caring about the whole idea of ethical character and becoming a better person in the first place. :)

However... if it turns out that the human who I am dealing is full-on bent on using their skin tone as an excuse to try to blame and control other people... if they get pissed and yell "RACIST!" and play "i'm such a victim" in order to duck someone else daring to call them on the content of their character and/or behavior... THEN I get pissed.

I just want to scream: "Knock off that victim crap! Try to actually OUTCLASS those you oppose! Hit the books and get yourself educated! Libraries are free! Learn what "introspection" and "take responsibility for your own actions" both mean! Quit using your skintone to give yourself a blanket excuse to act like such an ignorant jerk!"

There... I said it. :-/

(sigh)

I know I am probably just asking to be a public punching bag by writing this. :-/

I'll just stand right here in the corner and let myself be target practice... while I apologize for any offense. :-/

THIS.

We've come to a point when we CAN'T judge folks on the content of their character if/when said folks are "of color" as any finding that said character is deficient will simply be painted as "racism."

Even asking these folks to ascribe to basic levels of civil behavior, comportment, work ethic, honesty, responsible parenting, etc, will be decried as "racist" as they believe they cannot and must not be held to the same standard as everyone else and even suggesting as much is somehow patently unfair.
