I'm pretty sure that it's because it lost its teeth. Small dogs tend to have more dental problems, and when they lose their teeth, the tongue goes all willy-nilly and starts flopping out of their mouth like a lost trout or something.

It's from tooth loss. Dogs don't have muscular lips, so when they lose their teeth they're not able to keep their tongues in their mouth. As far as why it's seemingly always on the left, I've no idea.

That actually appears to be a perfectly good representative of the Dogue de Bordeux, which is a very rare breed in the States. But then again, my family has mastiffs so I'm used to the look.

Chinese crested hairlesses should be considered cheating. It's not fair for other ugly dogs, because that entire species is just horrendous.

the tongue thing is because hairless cresteds tend to have tooth issues. not just from bad care, they don't always have all of them to begin with. our crested/dachshund mix (charly) is missing about half of his teeth. the rest are super pointed (primtive) and he's as aggressive of a chewer as our lab/terrier/shepherd mix who is twice his size. we go through a couple nylabones a month between the two of them.

plus charly is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous looking dogs in the history of time.



and his tongue never hangs out, but his upper lip gets stuck on his teeth, so he looks like he's snarling.
