I'm in the middle of a thunderstorm right now.

Somebody will have this on YouTube - you can't swing a dead cat on the OF boardwalk without hitting a camcordering tourist.

And tomorrow morning they're handing out the OF quarters in a ceremony - that's gotta attract some lightning. I may take the day off and head over there.

Plus, there's a 24 hour cam on the tourists and the geyser.

FTFA: All were on the boardwalk or on walkways around Old Faithful Geyser when a small thunderstorm cell produced a single lightning bolt, according to the Park Service.

So did the storm only produce one lightning bolt and then it was spent or are they saying that only one bolt caused these injuries?

Old Faithful has been renamed Old Sparky.

QFA: "A ninth individual walked into the Old Faithful Ranger Station and reported being struck by lightning. This person did not seek medical attention."

And he was me thinking balls of steel would be a liability in a thunderstorm.

"Anybody got a comb?"

This reminds me of that guy that was struck by lightning 7 times in the course of his life as Park Ranger.

Some supernatural force really had it out for that guy, after the last strike he was also attacked by a bear.

What shocking news!
Those people had so much potential.

It's been about 25 years since an earthquake ended "Old Faithfull's" regular emissions. But it's still worthwhile to hang around extra long to see it erupt.

I'm sure there's an Old Faithful blows as frequently as your mom quip in there somewhere but I'll be damned if I can think of one...

Was it after his pick-a-nick basket by chance?

I worked in the park back in 2005. I lived at Canyon, but we heard eleven or twelve people were hit by lighting at pretty much the same spot.

Billings Gazette article here.

Makes me wonder what it is about the spot that makes repeated strikes possible - Old Faithful Inn is plenty tall, and would, I think, attract lightning pretty well.

Best part of the story... he committed suicide with a shotgun I believe. And not because he was tired of being hit by lightning, but over a broken heart.
