Say it ain't so.

So unabated oil flow into the gulf for the next two months or so until the relief wells are completed.

Obama is so farked. What he SHOULD do is seize BP. Put the company into governmental receivership. But if he does, then the cries of SOCIALISZMZOMGMUSLIMEATYOURCHILDRENALLPRAISETOALLAH will be coming in even greater volume.

That and, you know, BP is British.

It has to be true. I read it on teh intarwebs (new window)

Make the government responsible for any post-receivership damages giving BP a shot at profit for the upcoming fiscal year?

What the hell would that accomplish?

Absolutely f*cking nothing. Nada. Their employees would quit and go to work for another oil company.

Where is this Thad Allen saying such things? I don't believe a word of this article.

Can someone corroborate?

They could liquidate BP's assets and use the proceeds to pay for the cleanup.

2010-06-01 04:36:36 PM
If only BP had been forced to do an analysis of a failure at this depth so we could have known before this well got approved. Oh well, I guess we should blame too many government controls for this.

And basically fire anyone they want and refuse to pay the golden parachute packages to the farktards who thought this was a good idea.

This article seems to contradict other new article saying that BP *IS* continuing with the latest attempt to cap the well. Is this legit, or a hack, or?????

Why do you socialist libs always insist on punishing free market practitioners?

Our bootstrappy small business men should be rewarded for their out of the box (and into the gulf waters) thinking.

We're so f*cked.

2010-06-01 04:51:23 PM
Interesting since I can find no local (NOLA) news about such action. The only news locally about the Coast Guard seems to be a story where "Rear Adm. Mary Landry will return to duties as commandant of the 8th Coast Guard District in New Orleans to focus on hurricane season preparations" and she is being replaced on scene by Rear Adm. James Watson (FOX8 NOLA).

I think this is a hoax.

Yes, but it's a matter of degree at this point. Right now, we're f*cked. If this keeps going through summer, we're f*cked for decades.

kinda, yeah. But don't worry - Rush Limbaugh said oil in the Gulf was 'normal' so it's all good.

Whatever happened to Jindals plan to bulldoze the wetlands?

There was never such a plan to "bulldoze the wetlands" as far as I am aware. He has called for the feds to approve a system of artificial barrier islands.

Still in the works. I think he has a meeting this afternoon with some of the feds. Supposed to be a press conference in half an hour.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers listed 33 separate conditions that had to be met, including protections for navigation channels and wildlife. And that was the end of that.

Hey, cessation of hostilities didn't stop Andrew Jackson from handing the redcoats their asses just outside of town.

No, that's not the end of that. Even the article you linked states that's not the end of that.

It's really the perfect spot for combat. After your cannon barrels melt down, all you need to do is grab an alligator and fight another round.

Well, honestly, given what I know of the next procedure they would have been trying - couldn't this be true?

Everything I had read about the LMRP-procedure that it was a worse-before-it-gets-better kind of procedure, with no real guarantee of success. So, it may have been mathematically best to let it flow unabated until they get to the relief point, rather than potentially worsening it. Given that they are at the end of their idea spectrum, and the remaining options are not sure to succeed (or even maintain current levels of shiattiness), we might have to just wait for the the relief wells, as untenable an option that may be.

But the ROV with the giant circular saw for a hand may disagree with TFA.

God, I feel for the gulf coasters right now. The rest of the country will probably only minimally feel the effects of this, if at all since it's increasingly easy to go through life with blinders on... but you good people down there will feel it for awhile.

All of you down in the delta have already contributed a ton to Chicago culture, so you're more than welcome to stay here if things get too f-ed up.

Great! As long as this doesn't affect America's television schedule it means nothing to them, especially if it doesn't disrupt their American Idol. Americans seem to be apathetic about one of the worst disasters here and the other catastrophes oil companies alike to BP are doing. Their only weapon are peaceful granola protests which do jack crap.

I'm so happy to live in a place where not only is alternative energy not being worked on, but we are being lied to about its availability and that it is in fact being suppressed.

OH for christs sake - more bullcrap reporting.

Yes, they aren't going to put a BOP on there until the relief wells are drilled. They're afraid that it may cause too much pressure, and break.

They ARE going to go forward with the LRMP this week - which should catch 100% of the leaking oil. If not 100%, then close to it. Once the relief wells are drilled, they'll then plug the hole down there, and place a BOP on top in case the plug fails.

Try http://theoildrum.com - LOTS of great information there, including the truth, not just the filtered or half-truth you get from the MSM.

A) Business are not held criminally responsible for their actions.
B) Punitive monetary damages are passed to it's customers.

Where is the responsibility here?

2010-06-01 05:58:34 PM
Watching the ROV work; they obviously don't have the right tools for the job, and the ROV operator is not exactly a carpenter....they're having a lot of trouble cutting the pipes. Trying to inserte the saw blade into the cut and then start the saw is never a good practice.
