The Third Man: I'm confused. How exactly was the car going to be stolen by penises?

There is some kind of joke about Done in 60 Seconds in there.

Were these the police officers that took the car?

The guy admits to being a dumbass. I think the cops are being douchenozzles in this case.

So... not really a shocker, huh?

"These are some fine CDs you've got here. It'd be a shame if they were stolen. Yes, a real shame. Lucky for you we were here to guarantee no one would take them. We'll just need that $220 protection fee and everything will be squared away."

AnubisMan: Done in 60 Seconds in there.

That's certainly fast and furious

Lived in England for 3 years. Had the same shiat happen to me.

I came outside of my flat at 2 a.m. to find 2 cops going through my car. Had all my stuff out on the hood, looking through it. I understandably got pissed at them.

A short while later, after being threatened with fines for my open window, fines for interfereing with the police, and then them calling in a complaint to the base about me, I learned that the farking police there are bastards.

Couldn't they have just rolled up the window for him?

StrikitRich: Couldn't they have just rolled up the window for him?

I know there are many communities here in the states where a cop will just toss a flier or business card on the windshield/drivers seat reminding the owner that they're a dumbass and to be more careful in the future.

We had to destroy the village in order to save it.

2010-06-01 12:15:46 PM
TFA Police told him a window had been left open and a CD wallet was in the back of the car.

TFA We make absolutely no apology whatsoever for the officer's actions, which have prevented this vehicle becoming a target for thieves. Had a thief got there first it would have been a very different story.

Local man loses £15 in CD theft. Local police beat the man for some hours but failed to gather any more information from him. Keep your windows up, everyone.

2010-06-01 12:25:00 PM
Eh... from an objective point of view, I can see where it'd be cheaper taxpayer-wise to just tow & store it than to pay officers, detectives, etc. to find the car after it was stolen. The guy still has the 'right' to get his stuff stolen, though, and punishing him for leaving his window down is a bit much.

Rolling up the window and leaving a note would have been sufficient.

Kniggit: UK is a police state

Yet surprisingly ineffective at reducing crime.

2010-06-01 12:31:08 PM
It sounds like chief inspector Belton needs to be charged with grand theft auto, or whatever the British version is... bootnicking? I dunno.

2010-06-01 12:39:30 PM
The police took action to prevent STATISTICS, not to prevent CRIME.

2010-06-01 12:42:32 PM
So technically didn't the police steal his car and should be charged with auto theft?

MDGeist: So technically didn't the police steal his car and should be charged with auto theft?

Nah, they were just keeping the seat warm for him.

Being from the UK I don't find it hard to believe that the police service would deliberately search for 'cars at risk of theft' in order to get a nice payout for releasing the car. The whole traffic system is designed to try to stop people being able to afford to run a car. Rolling up the window or leaving a note, while saving paperwork and hassle, certainly doesn't have a similar happy ending for the bastards.

Also, a todger is a penis, what's this headline about?

2010-06-01 01:05:00 PM
Please, can we call it a tallywhacker?

2010-06-01 01:08:22 PM
Sorry dude :D

A Todger is a tallywhacker, what's this headline about?

2010-06-01 01:09:57 PM
If it is a high crime area and they're that worried about crime, why doesn't the cop walk across the street, step into a shop and watch the car? Then when some todger shows up to steal the CD wallet, they can walk over and arrest the guy. Thus not only preventing the theft, but also catching a criminal in the process.

So does this mean that a convertable will automatically be confiscated as unsecure?

HopScotchNSoda: So does this mean that a convertable will automatically be confiscated as unsecure?

That is what I was thinking. What about a Jeep Wrangler with a soft top? It takes less then ten seconds to pull the velcro apart to open the window. You can not even lock them!

There's a reason Monty Python came from the UK. Dealing with absurdity is part of daily life.

They don't sell cars with power windows in the UK?

He could probably have replaced the CDs for less than that if they had been stolen.

Buggering imbeciles.

They are saying they want to instill responsibility on the part of the owner by removing any and all responsibility.

Their actions are in fact, identical to theft and extortion.

You no longer understand what 'responsible' even means. It is not synonymous with 'acting inthe safest manner possible'. It means bearing the responsibility for one's actions, regardless of outcome.

You guys are farked up.

The charges made for the recovery and storage of vehicles are set nationally by the Government.

They work that way here. The state government sets standard rates for nonconsensual tows. Except. City governments give the contract to the company that offers the biggest kickback per tow. We had a link on Fark a few years ago. So the city makes money for each car towed. One city adds a $25 processing fee on top of the state rate in addition to whatever kickback it gets. I don't know if that's legal.

Lol.... I have always wanted to visit the nanny state, but articles like these are making me scared to. I will just stay at home where everyone has guns...

Isn't it awfully nice to have a penis?
Isn't it frightfully good to have a dong?
It's swell to have a stiffy.
It's divine to own a dick,
From the tiniest little todger
To the world's biggest prick.
So, three cheers for your Willy or John Thomas.
Hooray for your one-eyed trouser snake,
Your piece of pork, your wife's best friend,
Your Percy, or your cock.
You can wrap it up in ribbons.
You can slip it in your sock,
But don't take it out in public,
Or they will stick you in the dock,
And you won't come back.
