FIRE THAT COONT!

Well, if you don't want tickets, pay for parking. According to the police department and the lot's manager, the parking wasn't paid for until 20 minutes after the tickets were issued and more than an hour after they'd arrived.

Newsflash: Reporters filming random human interest stories have to pay for parking like all the rest of us.

This is almost as bad as when they biatch at somebody who's in their shot. It's a public street. I'll stand where I want.

/sorry you spent all that money on useless satellite trucks instead of hiring more reporters...

I'd say we divide it equally.
Just paid a parking ticket for being 3 minutes over.

What a strange lil old lady...I mean, it looked like they were on a roof of a parking garage.
/kudos for the reporter keeping her cool.....i would have verbally lit her up.

I'm not a fan of meter maids but I am going to side with them on this. I can beleive that the newscaster, just judging based on the comments in the article, was a self rightous twat who believed the fact she was on TV precluded her from following the same rules as the rest of us.

/I hope everyone she loves dies.
//Whoops...too far.

Why should they be expected to pay for parking during a shoot? They are PROMOTING the city! The city should pay them!!

2010-05-26 02:38:52 PM
Wait a minute, was all that happening in a privately owned parking lot? Couldn't the lot manager just work it out as a private contractual dispute instead of having the police intervene? Or was it a municipal parking lot? There's some missing information here. Never mind, I've already wasted too much time thinking about that flock of turkeys pecking at each other.

It's freedom of the press, not free parking for the press.

Raoul Eaton: Couldn't the lot manager just work it out as a private contractual dispute instead of having the police intervene?

It's pretty simple. You want to park, you pay. If you say you're going to pay but don't, and if you just walk away when the owner reminds you that you haven't paid - that's a ticketing. Not a fan of parking enforcement officers, but way, way not a fan of reporters.

I despise meter maids, parking meters and the jack asses that approve parking meters in locations I may frequent.

It's just too bad that they didn't issue two tickets per car since they were parked across at least 1.5 stalls each from what I can see in the footage. And as for having paid for parking, the reporter even states, on air, that she was given money to pay for parking and that it is in their van.

Lovely Rita meter maid
Nothing can come between us
When it gets dark I tow your heart away
Standing by a parking meter
When I caught a glimpse of Rita
Filling in a ticket in her little white book

2010-05-26 02:49:27 PM
I keep reading the headline as "mermaid" and it's way more interesting.

2010-05-26 02:55:20 PM
The parked illegally and got a ticket, the only story is...?

Sure I don't like meter maids but if you pull into a lot that is paid you must pay, its not rocket surgery.

Anyone who lives in Santa Monica, or has lived there or anywhere near there would not be siding with the meter maid, no matter the douche-baggy-ness of the reporter (and she was hard to side with). Most of Southern California is notorious for raping it's citizens through things like parking tickets while letting bigger things go unattended. (Prostitution, Homelessness, Drugs)

2010-05-26 03:07:29 PM
Just recently contested a ticket in Beverly Hills, it's almost like SoCal governments are so desperate for revenue that they will nickel-and-dime you in any possible way without calling it a tax...

Right... because when I think of metermaids I think of prostitutes and the war on drugs!

RocketRod: nekom: BOYCOTT THE PEOPLES' REPUBLIC OF SANTA MONICA!

Came for "The People's Republic," leaving happy. All of you defending the meter maid may not understand the extenuating circumstances, namely that the City of Santa Monica is the single douchiest governmental agency in the world. Which, as the previous commentor notes, takes some doing in So Cal.

Also it really pisses meter maids off when you call them "meter maids" instead of "parking enforcement officers of the legal law legality" or whatever bullshiat they want to be called these days. Which is why I never call them anything but meter maids.

2010-05-26 03:17:47 PM
The thing is, this was a privately owned parking lot. They don't have the right to screw some business over. And the reporter was given the money to pay the parking for their vehicles, but only paid for some, and probably pocketed the extra money. I live in the 'burbs, and even I have seen news crews show up and park like they are the SWAT team and screw up all the traffic.

WrestlerManager: Battle of the douchebags. Parking enforcement goons vs. TV news talking heads. Who to hate first?

Carp. Forgot private parking lot managers. They're douchebags too. And in this case, the instigator of douchebaggery. Hatefest is now a triple threat match.

Holy hell, I'm about to defend the government here.

Yes, parking sucks in Santa Monica and they will ticket you if you go 45 seconds over the limit. Avoid it by not going over the limit. You're using a public space to store your private property, and for that you should have to pay the city.

This story is about an incident in a private parking lot.

Sorry in this case the reporters got what they deserved.
I got a parking ticket when I had over a hour left on a parking meter in the DC area. They cut off the heads of a lot of meters and replaced it with a sign about 30+ feet up saying you can only stop and drop off. (I thought that was only for the ones with heads cut off) Silly me......87 dollar fine......Even local police say that is B$. (live in Southern Maryland) But to fight it cost more than ticket.

What should the cutoff be? All of the parking meters I've ever seen show you how much time is left.

Mrs Traveler was with on my sidecar motorcycle when we decided to stop at the Santa Monica Pier. The parking lot wanted me to pay double because he said that the sidecar was a separate vehicle. Needless to say we left and I have not been back to Santa Monica since then!!

We've paid for parking, I have receipts

But you didn't...

i noticed the white parking lines of the cars across but didn't see parking lines below the tv station cars. so its illegal parking?
