whereisian: So Dany, you've just been swept on a team you demanded a trade to. Your numbers were not where they should be, your ice time has been severely reduced and the fans are questioning what they gave up just to have you locked up with a NTC with 5 more years on your contract.

I'm Dany farking Heatley. I'm going to buy a boat.

Ya with all that money I got from the senators.. I went and bought 17 friggin hectares of land and my own lake ya

netweavr: Good series Chicago. Your defense looks incredible and your offense takes advantage of counter-attacks exceptionally well.

I expect you to win the cup.

San Jose...
1st seed, 2005.
2nd seed, 2006.
2nd seed, 2007.
1st seed, 2008.
1st seed, 2009.
1st seed, 2010.

My heart, it breaks.

/ Shark in 6.

Wrong.

2004- 2nd seed (lost CF to Calgary who went to the Cup)
2005- Strike. You may remember this was the year without playoffs.
2006- 5th seed (lost 2nd round to Oilers who went to the Cup)
2007- 5th seed (lost in 2nd round to #1 seed Red Wings)
2008- 2nd seed (lost in 2nd round to #5 seed Stars)
2009- 1st seed (lost in 1st round to Ducks, who came within a hair of beating the Wings)
2010- 1st seed (lost in CF to Chicago)

The Sharks aren't anywhere near as bad as everyone makes them out to be. They didn't choke against Chicago, they lost to a better team. All the games were competitive and fairly close.

Dany Heatley is going to hold them back with that contract and his habit of disappearing when it counts.

I think of a choke as when you don't even bother to show up and play halfway decent. I don't think there was any step down from how the Sharks played when they pasted the Wings, I just think the Hawks were a level higher.

When you get beaten by a juggernaut, it's not a choke.

Even though we won in 4, I feel this was the hardest series! I don't think the Sharks choked.

The Hawks are real good, the games they lost to Vancouver and Nashville were the games they phoned it in on.

Absolutely. Though now I don't quite feel so bad about how Vancouver did against the Hawks.

Way to go on getting rid of the choker label Sharks. Can we get hockey writers NOT to pick these losers for the Cup champions? This is like 6 years in a row they've been picked and each year they gag like Katalyst on Crosby's member

I would consider a true choke to be being a top 2 seed and getting swept in the first or second round.

Teams that have successfully accomplished this feat (both in the first round):

Ottawa in 2001
Detroit in 2003

When you lose in the conference final you're losing to a team that's going to play for the Cup. They're good.

The scores in this series were 2-1, 4-2, 3-2(OT), and 4-2(EN goal). They hardly got blown off the ice.

Feel free to hate the Sharks, but don't put them in the same category as the two teams mentioned above.

Woot, we get to see if the Hossa curse is real or not! This will be an exciting finals. Thats assuming the flyers win. If they don't I'll be at odds. On one hand I don't want the Habs to win and on the other I don't want Hossa to win. I think if it comes down to it, I'll have to root for Chicago... simply to shut the East fans up for another year.

Yeah, those are division placements, not conference. I see how it could be mistaken though.

Sorry for your team's exit, but they played some pretty entertaining hockey, and lost to a real beast of a team. It'll be interesting to see what the team looks like next year.

Chokes are acceptable aslong as you mix chokes with cups... which the Wings have and the Sharks haven't. But anyone who thinks this was a choke by the Sharks are mistaken.

I could compare the 2009 Ducks (two years removed from a Stanley Cup Championship with a team stocked with current NHL stars, and multiple Norris Trophy winners) with the 2006 Oilers (Chris Pronger and a bunch of pluggers), and point out that not all 8th seeds are equal, but I can see that you're intent on hating the Sharks and harping on their 'choking', so go right ahead.

Yeah the Wings have totally not won any stanley cups in recent memory at all...

Wtf you smoking? I'll say it again i love how any time the wings don't win the cup or go to the cup finals its viewed as a choke job. Great to be on top with such high standards :D

What? I think you misread that. I was saying that yes, the wings have choked (real chokes, not winning the cup each year is seen as dissapointment to us wings fans, not so much a choke) but they've also won Stanley cups so those chokes are forgiven. San Jose has choked, but have no Stanley cups.

Panty Sniffer 2010-05-23 05:47:02 PMWhat an awesome game! I intentionally refrained from posting because I am kind of superstitious.

So much this- I just couldn't bring myself to talk smack this game. Although I predicted Versteeg would be the difference, it was actually Byfuglien again, (Versteeg did put the nail in the coffin though). Byfuglien is just frickin' amazing.

The NaSkAr, I am so jealous.

It was like when Obama got elected in Chicago today- I live in Lakeview, and people were running around yelling. My FIL, a Chicago native, was crying.

I think the only certifiable choke this postseason was teh bruins blowing two 3-0 leads.

Ahead 3-0 in the series then ahead 3-0 in game 7.

San Jose is just the Queen.

Check out the video labeled "Marleau's shorthanded goal" or "Marleau's Shorty". There's a very tiny action shot of the puck hitting Keith's face and him wobbling a bit after the hit.

I picked the Hawks the win the Cup before the season and playoffs started, and I'm a Kings fan.

SJ was competitive in three, but they're not good enough for this matchup. I thought they'd at least take two.

What the hell, I love the pic.
