Wow, Craig Kilborn's still alive. Good for him.

"I need a late night talk show host. You're it, until you're dead or I find someone better."

2010-05-20 06:25:31 PM
He left the Daily Show because he got the CBS offer.

He left the Late Late Show himself, I am not aware that anyone was forcing him out.

So, while I agree with the sentiment that the hosts that followed are better, it wasn't because the shows didn't like him and pushed him out.

Looks like that guest spot on Old School wasn't the springboard to success he thought it might be...

dletter: He left the Daily Show because he got the CBS offer.

He didn't exactly leave TDS on good terms.

It's time to dance, dance, dance

MaxxLarge: Yep...he's definitely made an entire career out of being a placeholder host who warmed a chair until someone far, far better came along.

Except on slow news days:
Jon Stewart
Stewart absolutely sucks as a comedian when nothing happens in the news. He isn't funny at all and can't hold the show up. Bush farkups were his saving grace. When he's on, he's on; when he's off, he farking sucks (A show dominated by Ascots? Really?).

2010-05-20 07:00:21 PM
What are you gonna do? Tell on me? You know you can't buddy. It's guy code. That's something chicks do. You're not a chick are you?

2010-05-20 07:07:32 PM
Kilborn is the product of that Tosh guy (who i think is funny) going back in time and upgrading himself.

2010-05-20 07:14:28 PM
He is the Drew Bledsoe of talkshow hosts

2010-05-20 07:20:54 PM
Still remember the night when Jennifer Love Hewitt was on The Daily Show and Kilborn couldn't stop ogling her. The dude didn't even TRY to hide his hard-on for her. He kept making references to her boobs, eventually asking her if she liked to have them motorboated and then doing the *pffftttt* noise. She just sat there with this "WTF?!" look on her face until it was time to leave - which I'm sure she did very quickly after they stopped shooting.

2010-05-20 07:33:46 PM
Why do I keep confusing him and Greg Kinnear?

Like I used to with Burt Renolds and Tom Selick. (im sure my spelling is off)

2010-05-20 07:35:37 PM
I thank that prick Mohammed that this POS - the show and Kilbourn - won't be showing in my neck of the woods.

I know. The show has completely fallen apart since Bush left. Except for the Emmy.

it's likely just me, but i actually thought that kilby was pretty funny, in a dry, white sort of way.

no doubt he was a bit of a dick, but i grew up around plenty of country-club whiteys who were undoubtedly dicks, so i guess i kind of appreciate that type of humor.

moothemagiccow: Jon Stewart's crusade against Fox News is annoying

Why? Shouldn't all media outlets be held up to scrutiny?

he goes after all of them - there's a reason he goes after Fox more and it isn't just ideology.

2010-05-20 08:01:24 PM

Sorry Craig, I'm with Coco. Only have room enough for one redhead comedian, so I prefer the one who's not smug.

And too bad for you Craig Ferguson took over for you when you left, and made that show better! I wonder if Ferguson is gonna be at the Boston July 4th concert this year. He was great last year as host.

Craig Killborn is a harbinger of better things to come.

Good call.

I don't hate Kilborn. I doubt I will watch his show.

2010-05-20 08:23:15 PM
this article fails from the first word on... calling Craig Kilborn a comedian... epic fail. The guy was a wise cracking sports anchor who was given a desk job on a fake news program that got better after he left for another desk job on a late show that got better after he left.

2010-05-20 08:28:10 PM
Someone call Chevy Chase, tell him he's on in 5

Who cares why he left. The world is a much funnier place for it.

moothemagiccow: Jon Stewart's crusade against Fox News is annoying

What's annoying is that even though he's constantly calling them out, their viewers see it as an attack.

2010-05-20 09:16:11 PM
Kilborn is from the Sherry Stringfield/Mandy Patinkin school of television.

All through the month of April he went on and on and on about Fox and I just stopped watching. Yes, it's stupid, yes it deserves scrutiny and ridicule, but guess what? His audience doesn't watch fox news; his staff does.

I've seen more footage from fox news on the daily show than I've seen on fox news itself, because I don't ever watch fox news on purpose.

It's like doing a parody of an unwatchable movie. Yes, it may be brilliant, but it means you have to watch garbage to get most of it.

2010-05-20 09:38:48 PM
I liked the less political Kilborn TDS better. He Said Winsted, 5 questions, moment of zen...good times, good times.

thebadmitton: He is the Drew Bledsoe Steve DeBerg of talkshow hosts

Romo is no Craig Ferguson. Turd Ferguson maybe.... Craig Ferguson can finish a season, and doesn't blame his girl friend for his farkups.

2010-05-20 09:43:12 PM
He left the show in 2004 to pursue other projects

Like a cameo in a werewolf movie with Christina Ricci?

Kilborn danced on Thursdays to end the week; he can pull off stupid shiat because his show never sold it self as political.

Stewart's Seat of Heat = Kilborn's 5 questions. Stewart sucks as a comedian.

FAIL

Stewart is at his best lambasting political and media farkups/bullshiat and has tailored TDS around that; anything outside of that he sucks.

I find it vastly entertaining. When the guy on Comedy Central puts forth more accurate news in a half hour comedy show WITH INTERVIEWS that only airs 4 times a week than your entire network does with 24/7 coverage, that's a pretty epic fail.

2010-05-20 11:10:21 PM

MaxxLarge: Yep...he's definitely made an entire career out of being a placeholder host who warmed a chair until someone far, far better came along.

But Fallon > Ferguson. Because Craig doesn't have the balls to dedicate his entire show to airing a documentary that's only available in the deluxe edition of a remastered classic album for free.

I actually liked Kilborn, even when he was an anchor on SportsCenter.

2010-05-20 11:10:24 PM
IIRC Kilborn left the Late Late Show because he was insulted that CBS/Worldwide Pants wouldn't guarantee him succession to the hour-earlier slot like Conan had just won in his contract re-negotiations.

Both he and Conan made terrible misjudgments, as it turns out.

Yeah, Craig Ferguson's been rather lacking lately. I hope it's just temporary, but I fear he may be finally running out of steam.

Conan walked away with a shiatload of money and a new show with more creative freedom. NBC's stuck with Leno again. I think I know who made out better on that deal.

Here's the thing though: who gives a shiat?

People who watch Fox News will watch Fox News. People who watch the Daily Show will watch the Daily Show. It's incredibly circle-jerky and comedically lazy to keep rehashing the same tired "feud".

It's not holding anyone's feet to the flame. It's not righting a wrong. It's not making Fox change, and it's not making their viewers change. It's a lazy circle-jerk.

How about when Craig did an entire episode dedicated to Bishop Desmond Tutu and apartheid?

Why do people around here like to pretend that Leno isn't a ratings winner for NBC and has been for years? Are you all that much in denial?

/I don't care either way, it's just silly

Craig Kilborn ripped off Dennis Miller's schtick, and did it badly.
He was all smarm, no wit.

Dennis Miller ripped off Bill Murray's schtick, but at least he did
it with a bit of intellect (though in the last few years he's
disappeared into the DERP zone).

So, Kilborn is a rip off of a rip off. And second generation
copies always suck.
