A black people name. They always have the most messed up names. She probably has a brother named Qwerdrecus and a sister named Qwertyna.

I don't understand why people always rip on black person's names. It's part of their culture. Back when blacks were slaves, most of them were not allowed surnames. Because of that, they had to become creative with their first names. Why denigrate someone for their culture?

Because it's farking stupid. People are free to name their kids whatever they want, but they can't expect everyone to look at a name like Qwerda and say "my, what a mighty fine name that is" There is nothing "cultural" about making up a ridiculous name. In many US states the "right to work" law means you can fire someone for wearing the wrong socks. You don't need a good reason. Even if they have a funny black/ethnic name. That's why there are unions.

It's easy to overlook the fact that companies don't like to lose employees. There are significant costs involved in interviewing, training, payroll, etc. Even for a small operation.

If a company fires you, it's not just because you did one thing wrong.

Actually, sometimes you didn't do anything wrong. A worker we placed was fired because someone stole a check from the company. Without any way to know who did it they just fired the whole team. Several people were fired without having done anything wrong.

As for this story, they mention that the child was brought in to an area where family and friends were not allowed. I imagine they have well defined rules about who can be where the money is, and the lady broke the rule. If so she wasn't fired for bringing the kid to work, but for bringing a non-employee in to a secured area without proper approval. Hell, I was a senior officer for a bank and couldn't go in the vault.

It would be too easy to call out the under class in this thread.

I don't know about that. Everyone knows that cashiers do not have the money to go to court to file a complaint for an unlawful firing. Our opinions on the topic will be hard to place.

Normally, I'd agree. But since Americans of African descent make up, at most, what? 16% of the US population? Why not take the name-game out altogether, and just put a number in the "name" line?

In the military, our laundry tag was the initial of our last name followed by the last four of our social. The odds of two people with the same contact information and applying for the same job at the same time are infinitesimal. Why not use this? Instead of looking for racial "equality" it's now a moot point, it's purely merit-based.

And for those who want to say minorities are educationally-disadvantaged, I say:

A. You're wrong, look at the Asians, minority yet regularly out-perform caucasians regardless of background.

B. Every other child in the US performs relatively similarly when socio-economic backgrounds are statistically controlled for.

Doesn't mean I don't advocate additional programs for high-risk areas as long as they are results-oriented - insofar as pay for the instructors.

We don't have enough detail to know if the firing was wrongful or not. It apparently violated policy to have a guest without prior approval in the business (which makes sense given they are handling quantities of money and are a target of crime). We don't know the circumstances involved with the decision to terminate her. It is probably bad form to do it infront of her kid, but we don't know other circumstances where that may have been appropriate. All we have is a story from the womans perspective that she was let go for bringing her daughter to work with her (on a random day not the designated day that the business participates in assuming it does so). I would still expect her to file suit and given the firing was in front of a minor, she will probably get some money unless she did something inappropriate when they confronted her on the child in the workplace.

Regarding the name discussion. People do not live in a bubble have have real world experience that they incorporate in their views. Given my experience, and obviously many in the thread, there was a high likelihood that the name would be associated with an African American. Based on experience, a large number of unique names are generated by African Americans in recent years. Is it racist to disparage an entire race for the choices of its members, probably so. However when a large enough portion are engaging in an activity, especially one with known consequences in terms of hiring, school acceptance, etc., it definately seems like self-destructive behavior and a poor choice (irregardless of the fact it is wrong to prejudge people based on a name).

You deal with the society you have and when you choose to do certain things, people will call you on them and make insenstive remarks. Over time things will shift, but right now we are far from color blind, and doing something that fairly easily identifies you as a member of a certain race would seem like a poor choice.

How about getting rid of the reason unions initially form - a mutual lack of respect? Also, RTW seems to be accompanied by a 'holier than thou, blame the government' attitude by business.

Until that is used against you for some H1-b that was never disclosed until the last minute. Or when they use that to avoid a US citizen for similar purposes. Once the unions are gone, expect them to target all US citizens. Even the most union-hating folk that have would survive in other times.

She was legally fired. Her employer can allow her to collect unemployment. Part of her wages were insurance against getting unemployed, as were part of the wages paid to her by her employer.
