Qwerda Evans

Was she the product of an internet romance?

Where do they come up with these names.

(Say that as the voice of Gene Hackman in Get Shorty)

The English Major: Qwerda Evans

I suspect both she and her daughter, Precious, are.

I gotta go with the employer on this one. Not only is it policy but mom's a cashier. WTF is a five-year-old gonna do hanging around a store for a full shift? Get bored and be annoying and disruptive.

Far too few details in this story for anyone to make heads or tails of this story.

Prejudging without possible provable facts? I draw no conclusions about you from this. Well, no new ones anyway.

I have every confidence that this was not the first problem the store had with this employee.

Wow, a beat down reminiscent of a 7th grader. Humbling what intelligent commentary you vomit my way.

"We have a policy that prohibits who employees can bring -- friends, family members from certain areas. Permission was not requested or given," said Check N' Go spokesman John Rabenold.

forget corporate org charts or vague ideas about seniority - the true measure of how high up the food chain you are is how many rules you can break and not get into trouble for doing it.

I'll bet a buck I know what happened:

The business wanted to fire her for a long time, but knew she was the type that would immediately file a racial discrimination suit against them for a gazillion dollars. So they patiently waited until they gave her cause, and when she did--they pulled the trigger.

Hau Ruck: And "Bristol" had her child when? Oh, high school, nevermind. And what did she name him? Just sayin'.

Names like "Bristol" and "Tripp Easton" are good old fashioned non-elite 100% American names, as are "Track," "Trig," "Trick," or "Treat" or whatever other names the Palin family comes up with.

I was upset about this until I read the article and saw that she's black and has a ghetto name.

Now, Qwerda Evans is out of a job and the company is standing by its decision.

Maybe she can move in with her brother, Asdfgh.

I dunno, I got shadow-labeled a racist for making a Qwerda joke.

I just pray her brothers Tyuiop and Xcvbn don't come looking for me.

How big is the employer? A manager at a megacorporation employer told me there was a lot of paperwork involved with involuntary termination. There is also paperwork if you want to put a "do not rehire" note in a resigning employee's file. HR policies list some things that can cause immediate termination and say that almost anything imaginable can cause immediate termination even if not listed, but the system is heavily weighted towards not firing people lightly.

(BTW, sucking at your job was explicitly not on the list of immediate termination offenses. There is a long procedure to get rid of people who just take up space without doing useful work and it might take a year or two to apply the boot.)

This is really judgmental. I mean, she's not a corporate VP or something - she's a cashier at a Check N Go. I don't see how corporate politics factor in here. Even if the boss wanted to fire the cashier he could have waited to the next day when the woman's daughter *wasn't* there. The fact that he did it in front of her daughter means the boss is a total douche.

I dunno. If they couldn't figure out a way to get rid of her any sooner, in the 11 years she worked for them, she probably wasn't too much of a fark up.

Just be glad this didn't happen at the post office or the following day would've been "Take Your Gun To Your Former Job Day".

Qwerda? What the fark kinda name is that?

2010-05-18 10:38:54 PM
This has to be the worst indignity suffered by an African American named Precious, right?

I know, why couldn't they have given her a normal name like Dhiatensor

So if this story were happening in Reykjavik the eleven-year-old would be Precious Qwerdasdottir?

To be fair, her office is located near the entrance... and with Precious there, no one was able to get in the building.

Perhaps in this wonderful job market, they figured they could fire someone (that perhaps they didn't like), that has worked there for 11 years, and replace her with someone who can start at minimum wage again.

2010-05-18 10:43:48 PM
The real story here is that there was someone in Flint that was still employed.

2010-05-18 10:43:48 PM
Evans said her daughter had been welcomed with open arms three or four times, but the last time wasn't so welcoming. She received a pink slip.

Evans' 11-year-old daughter, Precious, witnessed the firing on Take Your Child To Work Day.

Evans said her daughter wanted to see what she did for a living.

"I wanted her to learn this is how I make a living, put a roof over her head," said Evans.

Wait a minute...the kid was there three or four times and she's NEVER known what you did for a living?

2010-05-18 10:44:01 PM
Only in Flint would you get fired on Bring Kid to Work day.

Wonder if she came in drunk and half naked earlier this month on Cinco De Mayo? I mean it was SOMETHING to do, why not do it at work?!?!

Unreal... a lot of idiot businesses out there, but this one is just following an intelligent policy.

Definitely this. And considering the almost weekly basis on which those check-cashing places get robbed, kids should never be brought in anyhow.

I read her name as Q*bert. My eyes definitely need a rest....

Not that I'm in any position of authority, but I have to wonder what goes through the mind of someone when they see names that just sound ridiculous. I mean, if it were me, you'd have to be seriously up on your shiat to pull it off.

osdrcomputers: Qwerda? What the fark kinda name is that?

A black people name. They always have the most messed up names. She probably has a brother named Qwerdrecus and a sister named Qwertyna.
