Regnad Kcin: Those NASA folks love their acronyms, don't they? IF the MEC's don't arm the NAB, the PIC won't charge and the SNAFU will FUBAR the GD MF-ing thing.

IMHO these acronyms are necessary so that the astronauts don't DIAF, prompting the ground crew to say OMG WTF. They're quicker to say, so they have more time to STFU and GBTW.

I saw Atlantis launch last year on the Hubble mission. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed. And I am planning another trip to Kennedy Space Center this year. Just walking around that place made me feel like I could do anything if I put my mind to it.

Thanks for the education. Those examples were all thrown out the last time there was a thread on NASA where I had the insane stupidity to question the value of space shuttles. thanks for straightening it out.
It's curious on Fark, where even child molesters or rapists have a good percentage of posters taking their side for the sake of argument, how butt-hurt some people get when anything derogatory about NASA is said.
Is it some childhood hero-worship thing? Why all the sandy vaginas?

There is a right and a wrong way to approach a meaningful debate.
My issue isn't with his stance as much as approach. I can certainly disagree with tats, or say, even drew on things. But the conversations that are struck up are meaningful and relatively respectful. If I were to hop into a thread about a new hybrid and start screaming at everyone in it that they are idiots and killing the planet because they should be cycling. I'd expect eh same treatment. This is a god damn Nasa launch thread. Spittle flicking cursing Nasa isn't appropriate or appreciated.

It's also the third to last shuttle flight, a time when many look back at the shuttle program and evaluate it. What better time and place to discuss its merit?

I for one am disappointed in the space program, I think that realistically we could have a lunar station and a much more robust space station by now. But of course the political pressures that took us to the moon are long gone. We went to the moon before the pocket calculator. They brought slide rules along! Imagine what we could do by now if we would have wanted or needed to.

Even still, no matter how many questionable things my government does, nothing fills me with national pride greater than the shuttle program has. It's truly a thing of beauty that has inspired a generation of scientists. These are the intangible qualities that the program has brought. That's what I'll miss the most.

If all goes according to plan on launch, and it lands perfectly, this will be the first time a shuttle makes its final launch and DOESN'T disintegrate.

Technically speaking since they don't have to worry about getting Atlantis back to Florida for another launch, they could land it anywhere and get away with it. My vote is for Dulles.
