You can't fathom how much I hate this tag,
2001-10-03 07:12:08 AM
Why the Fark is this tagged as a Drudge?
2001-10-03 07:16:17 AM
I may be fik but I's very strog.
2001-10-03 07:19:10 AM
Let's see they're gonna kick our asses with all the outdated war EQ we sold off 20 years ago.

Scuds vs cruise missiles. Takes an average of 20 scuds to hit a target and they only have 20. hmmm. Trying to remember the odds of a scud flying up and back down to hit the same spot it took off from, something like 1 in 10?
2001-10-03 07:25:50 AM
It's great to see how far we've come as a race. After all the pontificating, discussion, philosophy and democracy, it still comes down to "Do what I say or I'll hit you because I'm stronger".

The irony is that both sides think they're morally superior to the other. Haha.
2001-10-03 07:26:31 AM
The Taliban also is believed to have some U.S.-made Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, but defense officials said the batteries may have run down. ROTFL
2001-10-03 07:30:01 AM
bill_cosby: don't underestimate my capacity for hatred for this tag.

i think, maybe "breaking news" would be better. and then that would be just for news items that break late in the newsday and really shouldn't be delayed until the next day.
2001-10-03 07:30:07 AM
Well the Taliban's in the shi-it now!

Meat, I think the *news* tag is fine. Or the PSA tag. I just don't like scrolling tags
2001-10-03 07:37:47 AM
When it says news flash hours after it happened, it loses its effect anyway.
2001-10-03 07:40:51 AM
Scrolling Tags kick ass. All tags should be scrolling. And all comments should also scroll by default.
2001-10-03 07:41:52 AM
Although all of them scrolling in sync is annoying

bill_cosby: i agree that for something like this, news would be fine. actually, i think we've gotten to the point where we don't really need fark to keep us posted on the big news stories related to afghanistan and 11sep. that's pretty much all the regular news agencies are talking about.

i do, however, recognise the advantages of an eye-catching tag for really urgent news. i just think it should be reserved for stories that break after the morning postings. stuff like what happened on the eleventh. but not just random lame normal news.

also, i think we can be pretty certain that the "news flash" tag is here to stay. if memory serves, i'm a pretty good barometer for what drew isn't going to do. except for that horrible episode with the devided comments sections. i was against those and they did go away. so it's not foolproof.
2001-10-03 08:08:21 AM
of course they've got 23 camps targeted...Ewige
2001-10-03 08:41:24 AM
Goatman264: This would be the policy we refer to as "the bigger-dick policy." I kinda get the impression that we've got a much bigger dick than the Taliban does.
2001-10-03 08:45:31 AM
It's good to know that now that the Taliban see's the reports that we've targeted them they can prepare even better.
2001-10-03 08:47:11 AM
MisterSym: Well, as long as no one in the US whines or calls the enemy evil when their sons come back in (several) boxes, then go for it - knock yourselves out.

Goatman Returns,
with a wee bit of trollin on his mind
2001-10-03 08:51:20 AM
"The Taliban also is believed to have some U.S.-made Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, but defense officials said the batteries may have run down."

That's what they get for not buying the battery charger pack and the special extended warranty. Silly Millitant Muslims.
2001-10-03 08:51:46 AM
Somehow when they talk about terrorist camps I picture a bunch of guys with AK-47s sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and having a sing-along...
2001-10-03 08:51:55 AM
Scraping: Sorry - didn't mean to tread on a collective ego, there.
2001-10-03 08:53:46 AM
Send Me! I have tons of experience playing Rainbow six
2001-10-03 08:57:19 AM
...And this one time at terrorist camp, Shamir wore his turban upside down and braided his beard... it was SO funny!

2001-10-03 08:57:30 AM
And in this thread too, excellent.
Troll silent, Troll deep.
2001-10-03 09:01:28 AM
I got all excited, thought the headline meant the missiles were flying.
2001-10-03 09:23:44 AM
Let's work over the Chinese while we are there.
2001-10-03 10:14:52 AM
... hope they get the right map this time.
2001-10-03 10:19:35 AM
Did anyone else pick up that the report was trying to stress that China's actions were not a warm and fuzzy? Why else would there be so much survelance on their troops amassing and where they are moving to.

There didn't seem to be so much concern when "former enemy" Russia began to help out in response to U.S. Actions.

It's been too long since I've seen a meaningful "23" reference. I was beginning to wonder whether it had lost its power.

23 skiddoooo, kiddo!
2001-10-03 12:34:35 PM
I figured therer would be a few 23 watchers here in Fark somewhere.
2001-10-03 12:49:15 PM
So there IS more than just a bunch of $10 tents to destroy.
2001-10-03 12:59:41 PM
So why don't we just herd all the terrorists into China and let the Chinese army kill them?
2001-10-03 01:10:20 PM
Please, PLEASE! For the love of god, stop with the scrolling test!
2001-10-03 01:10:21 PM
We all know the Chinese are there to watch the fireworks. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
2001-10-03 01:15:57 PM
Oh, yes -- the Bavarian Illuminati are real. The only problem is that once you find out that you're a member, by then it is far too late to do anything about it. Fjord!
2001-10-03 01:36:33 PM
Imagine the below text scrolling. But like the other way and backwards or something.

They probably just followed the road signs.
"Secret Osama Bin Laden Training camp #8 12 miles. Left exit only.

Or maybe they were advertised in the back of the New York Times Magazine next to the Fat Camp ads.
2001-10-03 01:54:40 PM
I have little faith in an article that mentions Scuds as SAMs. Doesn't everyone know they're TLBMs?
2001-10-03 04:12:06 PM
This is annoying.
2001-10-03 04:13:23 PM
but not as annoying as this
2001-10-03 04:34:53 PM
Osama! There's a horde o' them marauding visigoths here ta see y'all!
2001-10-03 08:56:03 PM
