NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You fark with my ability to watch Chuck and there will be a reckoning.

Missed House and Chuck last night 'cause of a stupid storm. The local weather man better be looking over his shoulder.

That drifting satellite might be an axe murderer. Don't pick him up.

2010-05-11 03:22:56 PM
bah! I have been getting shiat reception lately on my Direct TV anyway. Why the hell are my HD stations not coming through?

Could it be the result of that volcano?

No, just the fact that Direct TV blows.

Time to warm up the ol' D&D board.

May 23rd is the Lost finale. This is bad... very very bad.

2010-05-11 03:24:54 PM
You'll get over it. Your favorite shows probably suck anyways.

However, if I miss baseball someone may have to die.

2010-05-11 03:25:01 PM
I just checked and after it leaves my house the cable travels pretty much horizontally, not vertically into space. So I think I'm OK.

I hope it interferes with the Canadiens/Penguins game 7. Mass riot in Montreal would be funny.

The internet still works though. Who watches TV any more?

2010-05-11 03:31:28 PM
What about the aliens? I blame the aliens. All running into our satellites after drinking all that flrxnorb.

2010-05-11 03:31:34 PM
Galaxy 15 continues to receive and transmit satellite signals, and they will probably interfere with the second satellite, known as AMC 11, if Galaxy 15 drifts into its orbit as expected around May 23, according to AMC 11's owner, SES World Skies.

Your C-Band converter (or is it B-Band?) probably blew. If you're only getting a small, small number of HD channels but all of your SD ones just fine that's the most common reason. Happened to my folks once.

The converter I'm talking about is a small plastic rectangle that's in-line with the coax running from the dish. It's probably screwed into the back of your receiver, unless you had to move it for some reason.

Oh yeah, sometimes the things don't like to work if they're on the end of a particularly long run of coax. You can try moving it to be hooked directly into the receivers on the dish itself, but keep in mind that the converters AREN'T weatherproof. That being said, saran wrap and duct tape.

A communications disruption can mean only one thing: invasion.

wpmulligan: I just checked and after it leaves my house the cable travels pretty much horizontally, not vertically into space. So I think I'm OK.

Yes but the signal is optical so it travels at the speed of light which, due to the convergence of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, the Electromagnetic Effect and the Quantum Tunneling effect, the signal bores out of the cable at some unknown location at some unknown velocity then moves upward in order to effect space and time.

In other words, you're screwed. The good news is if you have Cox Cable, you're used to getting screwed.

Your cable television is experiencing difficulties.
Please do not panic.
Resist the temptation to read or talk to loved ones.
Do not attempt sexual relations, as years of TV radiation have left your genitals withered and useless.

Cyborg77: A communications disruption can mean only one thing: invasion.

Actually, communications generally rise in preparation for invasion, then fall of dramatically immediately before the invasion. That's just basic traffic analysis.

Meh. Did that on Sunday, mostly. Computer was shut off from the day before (thunderstorm), Mrs. Bopper's cell was off and being recharged, we puttered around the house. We did record a TV show that night, but didn't watch it until the next day.

I spent most of the day reading a book.

You'd think they'd overlap those wavy lines in such a way as to allow for more redundancy, so is some wavy lines get blocked, others will compensate.

madgonad: Is anyone besides me surprised that two companies from Luxumbourg own and control these satelites?

Not really. As the article mentions, satellites are quite expensive to purchase and launch. Leasing satellite space from a company that specializes in satellites (I assume) seems to make good financial sense.

/I have no idea how that works
