This is so irritating. In the US, we are free to practice whatever religion we choose. We must also deal with the consequences of practicing that religion. The Muslims apparently don't want to deal with the consequences of practicing their religion. One of those consequences is that occasionally people will make fun of it or otherwise blaspheme. The right to free speech isn't trumped by the right to practice any religion.

If you don't like your prophet/god/fsm being made fun of, then simply tune out. You don't have to watch, listen, or otherwise be a part of it. Tolerance is the cost of living in a free society and the freedom to practice whatever belief you choose. It's a lot more than just accepting that not everyone is muslim, christian, or whatever, but also accepting that people will have an opinion and more often than not it's going to be an opinion you don't agree with.

If you're so seriously disturbed that you can't accept the cost of living in the US under our rules, then you're perfectly welcome to find another place that suits your sensebilities and live your life in peace there.

F*ck Islam in it's pedo face.

Every show should open with that on one day and then go back to normal. Get the shock value out of the way.

The farking non-violent Muslims, the ones with a sense of humor need to take this on and overpower the farking looneys that have hijacked their religion. If you love Allah, then don't let a bunch of donkey-farking kiddy diddlers steal your religion from you, you weak-ass pansy motherfarkers.

Get out in front of this and take your God Damned religion back if its that farking important to you, you dumb sons of biatches.

No, like Muslim leaders, the guys running Mosques that insist they are non-violent and that Islam is a religion of peace.

Put their money where their mouths are.

Kirk's_Toupee: the terrorists have won. what a pathetic joke this world has become.

That's exactly why I had to comment on this. These networks that are kowtowing to threats of violence by extremists should have their journalistic licenses revoked as well as their broadcast licenses. By the very act of favoring one type of speech over that of many others they've shown that they don't deserve the very reason that they exist. To serve the public interest.

I wish that the people who work for these companies and that are being muzzled by them would strike. In a lot of ways I hope that christians, jews, hindu, etc all get loud and demand that their religion is sacred and off limits as well. I would love to see what happens then.

To all the Muslims who are reasonable and intelligent, when some begin to wonder if Islam is compatible with modern society, please see why some people have lingering doubts.

It would only work if they demonstrated they were willing to blow shiat up whenever people disrespect their religion

So we've been scared into bending to their will?

Congratulations, TV execs, you've shown those assholes that terrorism will get them what they want.

Screw the damn Muslims and their idiot backass beliefs. They don't want free speech, they should have their damn citizenship revoked and sent to Saudi Arabia.

I'm fed up with these nutcase freakshow lunatics telling the rest of us how to act. Suck on this, Prophet Mohammed.

cyberworm: In a lot of ways I hope that christians, jews, hindu, etc all get loud and demand that their religion is sacred and off limits as well.

Well, they already do, just not by issuing death threats :P

Islam and Scientology are probably the two main trouble-makers in this realm, the two religions who use threats of violence against their detractors and manage to largely get away with it.

AdolfOliverPanties: No, like Muslim leaders, the guys running Mosques that insist they are non-violent and that Islam is a religion of peace.

Agreed, imams, Muslim scholars, authors, etc. in the US need to say, loud and proud from their positions of authority, that violence/threats/etc. are NEVER acceptable responses, and that free speech means that people have the right to demean and criticize your beliefs. And that's a good thing. Tell 'em to write letters to the editor instead if they're so offended.

I'm still waiting for evangelicals to pick up on this. I'm sure there are factions that would become militant in a heartbeat if they felt it would make America a more Christian nation.

Well, it could work non-violently if the people that work for them weren't working anymore. Hell, this is something that everyone could be involved in, secular and non-secular alike. I'm sure there are christians, jews, hindu, atheist, etc all working for these companies. Hell for all it really matters, a christian could/should sue for some sort of religious bias.

But corporations prefer to cower in fear rather than risk offending a religion prone to blowing stuff up; it's better for the bottom line. (At least in the short term, quarterly and five-year forecasts.)

An interesting notion; unfortunately, cable is regulated a little differently than broadcast, and the most insightful news coverage has tended to come from the Daily Show. I guess that's going to leave the PBS News Hour the last one standing.

I suspect cooler and less paranoid heads in Canada won't be crapping themselves. Of course, if Muslims had ever been portrayed as something other than either rich oil sheiks or terrorists on American television, this might mean something. As it is, taking a break for some re-assessment might be an improvement. But I won't count on it.

I absolutely agree with that. But that kind of lends to my later posts. When they have no product to sell (strikes) or anyone to sell it to (boycotts) their bottom line will be dramatically affected. I'm just pulling numbers out of my ass, but I would assume Islam to be a minority religion in the US (though I could be wrong).

Yeah. That had crossed my mind while I was posting it, but I just went with it. Cable obviously plays by different rules but it's not to say they can't be effected by people putting their collective feet down and saying "we won't stand for this shiat anymore."

Offend us all or offend none of us. There is no real winning in this situation, but then we have a choice between Pepsi and Coke. Oh, the perils of living in a free society. ;)

It's a nice thought to think, but won't happen.

It's like Muslims are little baby girls. What kind of whiny idiots are they anyway? Why should we take any person seriously who calls themselves a Muslim unless they have a bomb strapped to their chest?

They are a filthy people who practice an evil religion. They do not deserve to be spoken of as normal human beings.

I suspect they're also afraid of being blown up by the lunatic fringe of their faith. They'd just as quickly be slapped with a label of "infidel" or at the very least, accused of not being a "true believer."

As it has always been true, the only way to deal with a bully is to punch him right in the face*. Even if you could probably avoid the fight. Even if you think you will lose. You rear back and you turn his nose good and farking bloody. They're cowards to the last, and they thrive on being able to push others around. Deprive them of that and they may rant, they may rage, but they will also back down like the cowards they are.

*Please note that this is a different philosophy from punching someone who might happen to look sort of like the bully in the face. That doesn't make the bully back down, and it turns you into a bully yourself.

I was kind of hoping to see Trey Parker and Matt Stone quit after Comedy Central pulled this sh*t. It seemed like the last Muhammad episode was an ultimatum after they censored the previous one, after the Super Friends episode that had Muhammad before farking radical Muslims decided this was an issue. I suppose it's a little unrealistic to expect people making millions of dollars to make a stand like that on free speech, but still, would have been cool.

I watch South Park online as I don't have cable TV, and did you guys notice the differences this week?

1) The opening "This show is offensive to everyone" screenshot they have used since the beginning of the series is now gone, replaced by a very serious "This show is intended for mature audiences only" placard;

and

2) For the first time, all the swear words were bleeped out online.

I think Comedy Central is making some sort of point. I find them despicable human beings, and cowards.
