Does that including being up late to read Fark and fap furiously?
Does the fapping count as exercise and does that negate the
Fark reading?

Goddamnit so much.

//barely sleep during the day

So how does this relate to night owls and people whose internal clocks are off? Are we schtupped even harder?

And why is schtupp such a great word?

From reading TFA, if you sleep a normal amount of hours, no. It's the duration of sleep that counts, not when you get it.

well that clinches it, I'm definitely getting that disease.

Get some sleep. It's really not that hard of a test.

2010-05-06 08:34:16 AM
I never do all nighters, despite past sleep schedule problems, without sleep you don't get much long term retention. And if I'm not going to remember anything I may as well just get some sleep either way.

FTA: In this study, researchers examined nine healthy subjects, once after a night of normal sleep duration (approximately eight hours), and once after a night of four hours of sleep.

Awesome. An N value of 9 with only 2 data points per subject. Great job! I'd love to see the statistical analysis of the data.

Donga adds that further studies are needed

Do ya think?

I simply love it when MDs pretend they're real doctors and try to do research.

"In fact it is tempting to speculate that the negative effects of multiple nights of shortened sleep on glucose tolerance can be reproduced, at least in part, by just one sleepless night."

Well if it's tempting to speculate, then it MUST be true!

They also tried to brush a little factoid under the rug: that deviated glucose tolerance bounces right back after a day or so. You're not diabetic if a good nights sleep "cures" you...

My previous Quantitative score disagrees with you. Strenuously.

TFA: Sleep duration has shortened considerably in western societies in the past decade and simultaneously, there has been an increase in the prevalence of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes

What, are we going to publish flawed studies that would make a teabagger blush? There has also been a huge decline in scimitar-weilding pirates. Maybe that has something to do with the rise in Type 2 diabetes??

And what of the Japanese? Millions of overworked sararimen there. What of the Armed Forces? They literally train for sleep deprivation.

I do find it amazing how much you have to eat when you pull an all-nighter. I easily consume an extra 2 meals is those 8 hours. I think thats probably one of the reasons we sleep, the body saves so much energy that way.
