But why did he fall out of an apartment window? Suicide? Drunken shenanigans? Tossed out by someone else?

That may be why they want an autopsy, to establish cause. But I guess subby doesn't understand how things of this nature work.

I suppose you wouldn't want to know if the person had medication, drugs, or alcohol in their system. Or had evidence of any other trauma inconsistent with a fall. Or was already dead when someone chucked them out a window.

L&O has taught me that no matter how accidental a death appears, there is always a crime behind it. And that crime will be investigated and prosecuted in the next 55 minutes.

Better get cracking, police in TFA. This thread hits the main page at 1:37. You'd better have it wrapped up by 2:32!

1st 48 had a real life situation like that. Miami Homicide rolls up on a dead body outside building. They start tracing back to see which balcony he came off of. Found another dead body there. So, what appeared to be a straight suicide ended up being a murder suicide.

One of the best segments of that show ever.

Remember a month or two when that guy jogging on the beach got killed by an airplane? Yeah, they did an autopsy then, too. It wasn't because the jogger was drunk. It was because he got hit by an airplane.

Think for a moment - man gets in drunken brawl, gets shot, then his body is decapitated and thrown into a lake. Article says - "Decapitated body found in river, autopsy to follow"

Kinda important to know which one killed him.

Must have picked up about how suspects always confess or are about as smart as a bag of rocks, rarely demand lawyers and how the police can get away with blatantly unconstitutional interrogations. And if you watch CSI you'll know that science is always performed in dimly lit laboratories while pipetting mystery fluids and saying "Enhance".

Submitter,

I'm guessing you're trying to be funny, but just because a person fell out a window does not mean that his cause of death is so cut and dry.

Did he have alcohol or other drugs in his system? Enough to intoxicate him to the point of accidently falling out the window. Did he have any bruising/cuts on his hands/arms consistent with a struggle, which would indicate that he may have been pushed?
