This is the kind of driver I'll pull in front of, and then slow down even more. Eventually they get the hell out of the left lane.

I would like to see a program started to empower regular citizens to send evidence of aggressive driving and speeding into the traffic-court system. Resulting action would cause the speeders to have to pay $200 tickets. We could work with the unemployment offices to provide commission type jobs for unemployed people - $100 to the state or county and $100 commission to the person submitting the proof of the infraction. Provide onboard cameras or someway to capture the tag number and vehicle type of the law breaker at the same time verifying the enforcer vehicle speed. Make the ticket non-challengeable. This would require a lot of planning and coordination, but just think of the benefit to the unemployment situation across the country and the benefit to the tax base.

Yeah, no chance of that ever being abused.

Hey jerk author, you are breaking the law by hanging out in the right lane if you are not passing. So you have no right to be so smug.

I hate people like this. This person is a hardcore authoritarian and wants all parts of his life controlled by signs and laws and anyone who does not want this to be fined or jailed.

If you are traveling at less than 115 MPH, please stay out of the passing lane.

Thanks.

Asshole he may be, but he is well within his rights ^ in North Carolina to stay in the left lane as long as he is not below the speed limit. Of course if he dips as much as 1 mph below the limit, he's technically breaking that law. I wonder how well his cruise control holds speed on hills, or if his speedometer is calibrated. If not, he could easily be either breaking the left-lane law or exceeding the speed limit. It's a narrow line you tread, Mr. "Letter-of-the-Law Vigilante-Driver Man".

The NC Driver's Handbook also says it's a universal rule to keep to the right if you are moving slower than traffic. Of course, since nobody read the thing when they got their license out of the cereal box, US-264 is littered with drivers doing 71 in the passing lane and causing traffic jams in the middle of nowhere.

I would like a law passed that allowed me and my fellow non-conformist citizens to beat the living shiat out of every anal-retentive, letter-of-the-law, my-point-of-view-and-opinions-is/are-flawless-and-absolute, rights-infringing cocksucker on the planet. The passing of such a law would definitely have an affect on church attendance in a rather short period of time, I expect.

2010-05-04 09:20:25 AM
FTFA: I know slower traffic is supposed to stay in the right lane. My friend asked why I was driving so slow in the left lane. I told him I was going the speed limit. He said, you are also going too slow. I asked him, don't I have the right to obey the law by driving the speed limit.

Newsflash asshole - You're breaking the law. "Flow of traffic" and possibly "Left lane = passing only" (depending on which state you're in).

Self-righteous idiots like this are the reason why there are aggressive drivers. If you're hogging up the passing lane so you can feel superspecialawesome, where do you think everyone else is going to pass? The right lane? OH NOES look at all those "aggressive" drivers passing on the right! Pfft. More like "Look at that passive aggressive driver on the left."

And wasn't it just yesterday that some woman wrote to DOT about something similar? Yeah they had really great advice: Making yourself the target for road rage because you want to feel like a self-righteous douchenozzle is not a good idea.

/drives slow in the right lanes.

Also, if your tag looks like this:
www.plateshack.com
and you're driving in MA, keep your 65 mph ass out of my fast lane, we call it that for a reason. I respect your roads in your state, please return the favor.

/The state of issue of course, don't know anything about this individual driver.

2010-05-04 09:30:50 AM
TFA: He said, you are also going too slow. I asked him, don't I have the right to obey the law by driving the speed limit. He said yes, but the other drivers have the right to break the law. I don't understand that logic.

Regardless of which lane I am in, if I am driving the posted speed limit, no one should be riding my bumper or flashing their lights at me to move over.

Apparently, he doesn't understand a lot of logic. Regardless of any law, you need to move over for faster traffic. If you don't, you create traffic jams and even more dangerous situations. Yes, the people going faster than you are breaking the law and some of them are probably being unsafe. But you are causing a much more dangerous situation simply because you don't like other people driving fast.

That is what *I* don't understand. If someone is going faster than you and they are not impeding your progress or endangering you in any way (simply going fast is not endangering you unless they cut you off, or similar), then why care?! It's amazing how people feel threatened by this. Part of the "me first" attitude I guess.

Someone driving slower than you: Jerk

Someone driving faster than you: Asshole.

Subby, that's not a new way of thinking. Everyone thinks they are the best driver on the planet, and should be allowed to pick and choose which traffic laws they follow.

Today, alone, I observed one state trooper writing a citation to a speeder while many other drivers passed by him at speeds well over the posted speed limit. The state troopers and local law enforcement officers do their best, but in no way can they control these law breakers.

I wonder if this guy has a fark login?

I'd like the right to release oil slicks and caltrops like in Spy Hunter against anyone tailgating me while I'm going 15 over the speed limit.

2010-05-04 11:45:57 AM
Speeding isn't the problem. It's everyone going a different speed.

If everyone just followed the rules there wouldn't be a problem.

Slower traffic keep right. That's pretty much all that needs to happen.

Slower traffic stay the fark out of the passing lane. NO, it's not your right to do the speed limit in the far left, passing lane. In most places there are laws against that.

2010-05-04 11:46:03 AM
I demand mandatory jail time for those who don't signal when changing lanes

2010-05-04 11:46:47 AM
I submit that people should pay attention to their surroundings and drive responsibly and non-douchily. If someone wants to pass you, let them pass you, assuming there is sufficient space for you to move over to the right safely. If someone tails you, let them pass you, assuming there is sufficient space for you to move over to the right safely.

If someone flashes their lights at you as they approach because you're driving in the left lane at the speed limit and have a huge space ahead of you and people keep passing you on the right, don't get all huffy and offended, they're asking you politely. If you don't move over, you're being an idiot and purposefully pissing people off to feed your own sense of entitlement. Stop it.

I drive a lifted Wrangler with low gearing that can barely go 70. There is no way I would ever hang out in the left lane. Most times I stay in the far right lane and only venture to the middle lane when coming up on onramps and the occasional time I have to pass a snowbird. Why would anyone be a complete Jackhole just to F with other drivers?

/No fast lane for me
