FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The unprecedented 110 billion euro EU/IMF rescue package for Greece, announced by European finance ministers Sunday, did little to quell market fears of Greek default and euro zone contagion. Both the French CAC 40 and German DAX indices are lower in early trading, posting losses of 0.89% and 0.61% respectively. The British FTSE 100 has the day off.

And yet U.S. futures are up.
Either investors are confident that Europe won't let Greece fall,....

Or they've figured out that the fix is in, and that America will prosper as ALL OF EUROPE BURNS!

This is a plot between China and the U.S. to first tear down the rest of the world, and then split it up between them!

You know, one or the other.

Greece is not "one pissant country". For better or for worse they are in integral part of the EU and the unfortunate truth is that the same PIIGS as before have yet to learn their lesson. Euro back to dollar parity by July.

I just found out what Bloody Sunday was all about. Back in 1920, the IRA took out the core of the British secret service early one Sunday morning and in response the police department went to Croke Park where there was a football game in progress. There they just opened up and killed around 14 people.

The horror over this pretty much sealed the deal and led to the cease fire that gave Ireland its independence.

And now you know the rest of the story. I'd heard about Bloody Sunday for 30 years and finally realized that I hadn't a clue what they'd been singing about.

I thought it was about the assassination of MLK, but it turns out that was on a Thursday.

There were multiple Bloody Sundays in Ireland. I believe the song may be more focused on the 1972 killing of 14 civil rights protesters by British Troops in Derry, Northern Ireland.

There was also the shooting in Derry in 1972, which was more likely what U2 was singing about. Again, 14 people were killed. Basically, the British like killing 14 Irish on the occasional Sunday.

Good for you.

And you're buying into this market? Awesome. I like people like you. Guess my capital gains will be several multiple of yours this year too.

"The investment seeks daily investment result that corresponds to twice the inverse of the daily performance of the S&P 500 index. The fund takes positions in financial instruments that should have similar daily return characteristics as twice the inverse of the S&P 500 index."

The past year has been a bull cycle. Look at how it spiked in 2008 during the crash

Yes. My point is that buying URPIX over the last year would have been a really, really, really bad investment.

2010-05-03 01:09:04 PM
That's why I didn't buy it last year. I bought SPY and made 40% returns.

According to Bulkowski's Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns the average formation length for a H&S top pattern in a bear is 52days and in a bull it's 62days.

I see a potential H&S but it's only on about 15 days. Honestly, looks more like consolidation than a H&S to me. *shrug*

2010-05-03 02:13:21 PM
Thank you JG, I welcome useful feedback. I'm not saying I know all the answers, I'm telling you guys where I think the market is headed and that I'm backing up my opinion with money.

/JG any thoughts on the potential reverse H&S showing in Gold? I always take goldbugs with a pound of salt but the charts look okay
Link (new window)
and that could provide an interesting correlation to the traditional H&S 'maybe' forming on SPY...

2010-05-03 02:16:59 PM
And no, I'm not a total doom and gloomer, Mr. Snot Monster (is that Snot Monster CFP?), my largest position is in SPY and some of the wisdom tree cap funds. Doesn't mean I don't want to protect profits.

/just purchased 10 May 80 puts on a certain oil platform management and manufacturing company. Not BP (sold last thursday for +7% total returns) but maybe some other company that might be responsible for the RIG disaster

Lake Palin: /JG any thoughts on the potential reverse H&S showing in Gold?

Historically it's been a poor performer. IMO gold's in a bubble right now and has been for a while. I think people are banking on the expectation of high inflation which I'm not so sure of either. The upside in gold would require almost brand new highs and I'm never a big fan of buying in such a circumstance.

2010-05-03 02:44:27 PM
Agreed. I think its a great indicator for consumer fear though and GLD has been good to me. When you take this with that insane spike in the VIX last week (when the oil spill was not being factored in) I see resumption of bear conditions through at least the summer
