Why is nobody aiming hate at the makers of the faulty parts?

Were there faulty parts? I haven't seen any mention of it.

Why do you hate free-market capitalism?

Commie.

jehovahs witness protection: Why is nobody aiming hate at the makers of the faulty parts?

Because this rig was too big to fail and was looking for a bailout, obviously.

jjorsett: Were there faulty parts? I haven't seen any mention of it.

There is some talk about how the fault lies in faulty sealing, which was provided by Halliburton. So he's going to stop mentioning faulty design.

Also, I didn't realize that BP provided all gas and one rig in the Gulf of Mexico provided all the US's oil. This wasn't a rig that was actually providing oil to the market. This should have no consequence on oil prices. BP would charge more for gas, but oil shouldn't move. Of course, it won't do anything of the sort.

Also, because I like seeing Republicans flinch:

hey, maybe NOW we can get cars to run on seawater. Well, Gulf seawater.

2010-05-02 08:33:51 PM
Hopefully all the cleanup costs and damages will be recouped through fines and penalties. Oil companies aren't sacred; if BP has a few unprofitable years due to this, so be it. Other companies seem to make it through rough times okay.

And if they're unsuccessful at socializing these costs and do wind up paying fines, I think we'll see a few conservative commentators whining publicly about what a travesty that is.

/cleaning up after your damn selves isn't "punishment".

Damned Brits, messin' with my Gulf. They need a good spanking.

Wait, never mind... I hear they like that sort of thing.

Looks like we`re paying for the cleaning up after all! Any way things go, BP wins!

2010-05-02 10:36:23 PM
Are we going to be seeing another Exxon Valdez, where they'll just keep the court of appeals going indefinitely the damages they have to pay out are just going to get fractioned repeatedly?

SUBBY your farking kidding right? Because take about 58 oil rigs and knock them out for weeks---AND WEEKS..like what happened with Katrina---God the ignorance is just wow.

I'm waiting for the Teabaggers, Palin included, to show up at the shore in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida so they can

CLEAN BABY, CLEAN!

I won't hold my breath.

2010-05-02 10:41:59 PM
if you had let them drill in ANWR, this would never have had happened.

Good thing all of your food and other needs arrive by bicycle. Or maybe they just drop from the sky with no transportation costs required.

2010-05-02 10:43:17 PM
UnoriginalAndrew: spews...

I'm waiting for the Teabaggers

Why would teabaggers clean it up? They are for smaller government, as am I.

Big government cleans up stuff like this, not small.

Did you just go full retard?

Maybe some patriotic Palin-American should do us a favor and go full retard on every CEO at BP and Halliburton? Make your unfettered, frothing rage useful for once. Instead of always lashing out at the wrong people, try aiming at the people who deserve it.

/But no, they'd rather blow up Town Square.

As always the consumer will foot the bill

2010-05-02 10:52:06 PM
Anyone seen mention of a class action suit brewing for when the gas prices go up?? Since there IS a direct reason that a consumer would be paying more and subsequently losing money this year, they would be directly responsible!
SOMEONE is surely going to file one/more than one of these in this economy.

from another article:

"The containment boxes being built to stop the leak - 40 feet tall, 24 feet wide and 14 feet deep - were not part of the company's original response plan. But they appear to be the best hope for keeping the oil well from gushing for months."

Let's hope the totally untested best case scenario pans out.

The billions in profits they made each quarter over the past few years isn't going to get touched for this, is it?

Uh, yeah. Except the fact that Obama only let it slide to cater to republicans in an attempt to get the enviromental bill passed without stepping on too many toes. This was not "his idea" by a LONG shot. He made a bad judgement call, but the pressure came from the right.

Hey. Everyone. You too, subby --

Gasoline's a commodity. Pricing's a market thing - supply, demand, national/local taxes. BP can't just tack on an extra $0.15/gallon, everyone will just buy Shell or Citgo or something else.

This is basic economics that everyone should have learned in school.

/yeah, I know, we could concievably still get stuck with the bill, but it won't be at the pump.

That's some pretty interesting rationalization there. 'bad judgment'.

2010-05-02 11:10:38 PM
Pfft. The cleanup will be about as thorough as the Valdez spill and take BP even longer to pay for it, which means never in a million years.

Pay trillions in cleanup costs or millions to a clever team of lawyers? Even if it means changing the name just like Exxon did. They already started re-branding with Beyond Petroleum, my guess is BP will disappear inside 3 years. Besides, British Petroleum hasn't had Petroleum for years now so what does that tell you?

The outflow of the Mississippi is toxic anyway, and after Katrina the gulf is basically one large swirling sewer of fecal matter and lord knows what else.

Don't worry though, the same elites who wreck the environment and take no responsibility for it are the same people who want to depopulate you anyway, so it's all good!

It must be interesting to anyone who uses Fox as their sole news source. Obama has played give-and-take with the republicans since day one to minimize the speedbumps. And the drilling was what they wanted in exchange for the enviromental portion. It was not his idea. Yes, you can place blame on him for allowing it. But everyone knows damn well who's idea it really was.

you seem to be of the type that does enough TV 'news' viewing for the both of us.
/hint...commentary shows does not news make.
//all channels air commentary shows after 4pm. you'd be lucky to garner any news after that. and that would be in the crawl across the bottom of the screen.
