Everyone calm down, there's plenty of pooh to go around.

(last submission had a much funnier headline)

Anyone knows where I can find Winnie pr0n ?

She can have mine. I'm done with it, thanks.

Gepeto: ...Winnie pr0n

Would that be "Winnie the Poon"?

Why would you want that homo story to begin with?

2003-05-10 02:04:19 PM
Bah! All that matters is the money. If Milne's grandaughter had enough moolah to pay off Di$ney, they'd give her back Winnie in a heart beat.

Oh, wait. She's part canadian. Canada is basicly America's abused wife.

CAN: Um, can I reclaim the rights to my grandfather's childrens' books?

USA: WHO GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO TALK, biatch?!

(SLAAAAP!)

USA: Now get back in the kitchen and make me some pie!

CAN: Yes sir...*sob*

Gator8387: It's as if the person who sold you your house back in 1985 showed up and wanted you to buy it all over again.

Given the property tax rates these days, that's pretty much what happens, except the government has a lot more guns than the person who sold you your house 18yrs. ago...

sad indeed, but a contract is a contract, and Dsiney hasn't broke any laws

Canada is the poor mans USA.

Mexico is the poor mans Canada.

So on and so forth.

Disney was on her side - since if she won, the guy who actually owns the intellectual property would lose his rights to it and Disney would be able to gobble it up by burying the lady in cash. As it is, Disney doesn't own Pooh and that makes Disney angry. Pooh makes Disney more money than all their other assets combined. They'd be pretty soar if they lost their contract with the owner.

Actually, it goes like this:

The father(USA) slaps the mother(CAN) who turns around and slaps the kid(Mexico).

Don't screw with Disney.

Doesn't disney's money make laws?

2003-05-10 02:14:07 PM
Jeez. If it wasn't for Disney's bought legislation extending copyright for _ever_, Winnie the Pooh would be public domain by now, and for ever more. Instead, in a few years nobody will remember the original charming books and only know the crappy, merchandise-whoring Disney versions. Sad. If I ever move out of my parents' basement (kidding!) and am lucky enough to have an opportunity to breed (not looking likely these days), my kids will get to read the REAL Winnie the Pooh.

Oh, and Canada-bashing? Real mature, guys. That's one step above chanting "USA! USA!" and ordering Freedom Fries at mickey d's. Way to make Americans look bad.

Yeah, Emperor-Jay, poison pie!

Ha! Canada wins again.

Trivia: I dated A.A. Milne's great granddaughter for a little while.

She wasn't as into Pooh as I would have imagined. But I think she was very well off, I imagine her family made decent scratch off Pooh.

Other than the ability to beat up small defenseless countries, Canada is superior to the USA in every way.

2003-05-10 02:28:20 PM
Why don't they just take the phrase 'public domain' out of the dictionary?

overwhelming greed, powered by U.S. copyright.

Yes, I write of the U.S Senate.

(1) Disney deserves to lose every intellectual property case

(2) Disney is probably legally correct this time. Contracts are voidable unless both parties get something out of the deal. The Supreme Court has held that you can't use an expired patent for leverage in a contract. Similar reasoning should apply to copyrights.

(The patent case went like this: Company X had a bundle of patents, one of which had expired. X agreed to license other patents to Y on the condition that Y pay for a license for the expired patent. The Supreme Court said X couldn't do that. The purpose of patents is to expire so that all may freely use the invention. Using newer patents to block use of expired patents or extort money for use of expired patents is against public policy.)

She slips back into the kitchen, and takes down the double barrel 12 gauge Remington from over the sink, breaks open the barrels, and slides in two cartridges of #02 buck shot. Fat American is still lounging on the couch, sucking the cake off his fingers he's stolen from his freightened neighbours, as Ms. Canada levels both barrels at his stupid vapid face, and pulls the triggers. A double thunderclap is heard. Fat, stupid American is no more....

You're forgeting about Canada's gunlaws. I doubt Mrs. Canada would even *know* what a Remington is, much less how to use it.

Right. And most of Canada isn't rural, we don't deer hunt, and a lot of us didn't grow up in the country.

The thought of Cola's Pooh porn collection is getting me all hot and oh bothered.

I don't mean to get of on a rant here but......

I'm with No Such Agency on this one. The copyright laws in the US are ridiculous and should expire within a reasonable amount of time. No one should be able to profit and live off of their grandparents work, or their great great grandparents work and corporations should not be able to profit off of royalties on thing produced by people long since dead. However companies like RCA, MCA, Sonny, Disney and AOL/TW and there buddy in congress that are trying to preserve family dynasties (the late Sunny Bono) have seen to it that nothing produced after 1920 will ever become public domain.its sad and the public is being ripped off! The images of Poo, Mickey and Betty Boop as well as Elviss Songs are ours damn it!

This is the follow up to that Slesinger suit. Milne signed a contract giving rights to Slesinger that was extremely well written, giving Slesinger rights to merchandise and such that hadn't been invented yet (like VHS tapes and Dvds). Disney's been chafing about this contract for a while now, especially when it came to light they'd been stiffing the Slesinger heirs on a renegotiated contract where they got a smaller percentage overall.

This just shows again how far the Disney Corp has sunk since the passing of Walt. Disney bought up the other rights (image, I believe) etc, but as far as merchandise gors the Slesingers have them in a headlock. Now if Disney can get the Supreme Court to rule in their favor, expect all hell to break loose.

did any of you get a message that forbes.com was trying to download and install something? not sure what it was since i had to crl.alt.del to stop it.

Curious, yeah typical "gatorstyle" popup-install. Was actually signed by them however.

Anyhoo, No Such Agency has it totally right, Disneys WtP is a farking abomination. The sight of it causes me to want to vomit up my own intestines.

I forcibly remove any Disney WtP merchandise from the homes of children I know and replace it (with proper Shepard illustrated variants where possible). I have bought four copys of this version so far this year for mates kids:
[image from images-eu.amazon.com too old to be available]
(in case the img doesn't work it is a very nice, bound complete collection of WtP stories and poems, with Shepards illustrations).

Oh yeah, and that "The Tao/Xen/Tecup/Kissmearse of Pooh" gang can fark themselves as well. Once was funny, insightful, etc, but now you are just whores.

It's too easy. All she has to do is break into the Wren Library at Trinity College, Cambridge and take the original draft. Sheesh!

;)

Disney is evil!!

And Canada... Yeah, better then America in every way, except that 80% of the country's homeless, and 90% is unemployed. 100% is completly ignored by the outside world, too.

Universal Healthcare is the only reason so many people in it are still living.

And the "goes and loads a shotgun" metaphor is not correct, simply because so many people in it hunt. Can an army of hunters shoot a country? No? Really? Canada runs off, and whines to her friends about how she's way too good for America, instead. She doesn't have what it takes to actually hit him, considering the last time someone hit him, her Husband beat up him, then his neighbor. Plus, America is far too fat to be brought down by anything smaller then an anti-tank weapon, and Canada knows it.

But, she may file for divorce.

2003-05-10 10:06:00 PM
Before you curse at me, America is screwed up beyond belief, and completly finished if the guy the world hates actually gets re-elected (which might happen), but Canada is nothing great either.

Overall, I don't think there's any good country left out there...

We need a World War. A superpower always comes out of those, so.... And, odds are we'll go back to using Salt for money afterwards, and I always wanted money that has some actual use.

Ahhhhahahahaha I hope disney goes under....It won't happen, there is no way a copurt would hold a corporation to its word, only people have to do that... Gotta love the US corportate court system. Innocent until broke, then guilty as hell...

Haha, Young_Fart, I bet.

It's not so much a collection as one image that some goof sent to me.. but it's still horribly horribly wrong. I should remember to delete it.
