DFWPhotoGuy: Dont get the Five Guys love, overpriced and under meated imho.

Amen brother. No idea why people on the East Coast love Five Guys. Service is universally terrible and their fries are never cooked propertly. As a transplant from Phoenix (a veritable Fast Food Mecca) there really aren't any good options for a fast food burger in the greater D.C. area.

However, D.C. makes up for it with the presence of Ray's Hellburger. Not only the best burger I've had (I say that grudgingly, Chuck Box) but the best resturant name ever.

RedThree: Five Guys puts them to shame

Do you get good weed up in the NE? Who's your dealer?

RedThree: Fuddrucker's,

You redeem yourself with that comment. Though it's hardly fair to compare a Fuddrucker's burger to the glorified Wendy's that is Five Guys.

I'm halfway to calling shenanigans on the article. I was always under the impression that the reason In-N-Out is found only in southern California and places that are within reasonable driving distance is because a.) they're all corporate-owned (no franchises) and b.) they don't freeze any ingredients, meaning they have to be located fairly close to the main distribution hub.

So unless they're also planning to add their first non-Cali warehouse ever, it doesn't seem possible.

Here in Austin we have have Mighty Fine and Five Guys.

Good stuff, but so greasy that I can only stand to eat there once every few months.

Not a big fast food eater myself but I will say you nailed it.

All other burgers are regurgitated yak crap.

PPS Yes, that's the slogan for Railhead BBQ, but dammit it's true.

While I'm willing to endorse Kincaid's as the finest burger on earth - the original Tommy's on Camp Bowie is also good.

Try Moonies in Cedar Park. Good stuff right there. Don't even try Wallys on Mesa and Spicewood Springs. Big waste of money there.

I was going to say that they could just move into the locations of all the Steak and Shake's that closed around here, but the Advocate article that original D article links to has that covered. If In and Out goes that route, the former Steak and Shake mentioned in the Advocate article is about half a mile from my house, so that'd be convenient for me. It still wouldn't replace the Taco Bueno right next to it as my go-to fast food place, but that's a different subject altogether.

Done in one.

More menu items, breakfast, and open 24 hours. Good luck getting Texans to give up Whataburger for mediocre fast food at best.

see, that's the thing.

5G and Fudd are COMPLETLY different burgers. you may have a preference for one over the other, but they do what they do very well - and if you don't like that, you really don't like it.

In-n-Out is different. It is BLAND. It is just meat on a bun, if 'meat on a bun' was sold by Walmart (which it is).

So, yeah. hate on 5G or Fubb or whatever, but In-n-Out is worse than bad:

it's mediocre.

Whataburger tastes like three-day old grease with melted wax for cheese. It is utter crap that I wouldn't even feed to my dog.

how is this going to work? thought they did all their meat processing in a central location which is why they haven't expanded out very far.

1st time I had In'N'Out was at the insistence of some friends after we went to a Raiders game in 93(they got beat by the Browns if I remember right). Bland burgers, but my friends thought they were so awesome. They even bought t-shirts after wards. Later they started opening up in the Bay Area, and people were insisting I try them again. Stayed in line for what seemed like forever in the drive through, and it was just as bland as I remembered from the 1st time. What a bunch of crap. Carl's Jr. beats them any day. Whataburger is really good when you order the burger how you like it. I don't like the standard mustard on a burger they do. Goddamn mustard is for hot dogs.

/Moonies in Cedar Park also serves beer.
//I live 600 feet from Whataburger.
///I can see it from my porch.

Houston Farkers, you are probably already aware of Bubba's Texas Burger Shack in West U. But if you want the best cheap burger of your life, you have to try Sparkle Burger w/ onion rings. Total cost for one person 5.25 for a 1/3-1/2 lb burger and fresh onion rings.

Tommy's does have a good burger but M&O Diner has the best burger in FTW. Chubby's is a close second. Kincaid's is overrated.

Those are just, like, my opinions, man.

Came in for the In-and-Out Burger fanboi raves and kind of shocked to not see any. In-and-Out Burger guys are like Mac uses- usually can't shut up about how great it is. Pssssst...they both suck. I'm all about Carl's Jr. when I'm in LA.

This must be regional. At the one by my house in AZ, you have to ask nicely for some fries with the salt.

In Dallas, yes. In Austin, not so much. I'm a Californian that moved to Austin, so I'm not much help. The spirit here in Austin is keep the local mom and pop shops that have kept Austin great. To the Johnny Dallas and Californians in general it is to bring as much chain whatever to TX. If you move to Austin learn to love it for what it is, and don't try to change it into California or Dallas. When in Austin, do as the Austinites do.

UNC_Samurai: I keep hearing this line about Whataburger having good service, but every time I've been down to Arlington and Fort Worth I find the place with the dumbest workers on the face of the earth.

I've never understood criticism of Whataburger's service. Myself, I can never accurately assess service quality, cleanliness, or many other factors when it's 3am and I'm stoned out of my gourd.

Or is someone suggesting there are other circumstances under which Whataburger is patronized? Because that's just silly.

2010-04-27 02:54:07 PM
Whataburger is terribly inconsistent, particularly in the Dallas area. One location will give you great food, others are awful. All three near me are just putrid, but about 10 miles from me is one I've eaten at five or six times, and it's really good.

Most fast food places are like that. You have to find the ones that actually keep their place clean, and give you hot, freshly made food.

And as a personal note, I STILL don't eat at Carl's Jr. because of those disgusting commercials they put our for years. It's the only thing that comes to mind when someone mentions the name. Just gross. I hope the chain dries up and dies a slow, financially painful death.

In-N-Out is okay. The key is to get there earlier in the day before the fryers get all nasty.

Lt. Cheese Weasel: DFWPhotoGuy: Oh also I would probably say that Twisted Root has some of the best burgers and fried pickles I have ever had in my life. Now that DDD has done a show with them, things have kinda gone down hill slightly but I was used to the scene kiddos being in there prior to the show so now its a interesting mix of foodis. Also Angry Dog is amazing.. Maple and Motor is hit or miss. Hunkys is better than average but not something I have to constantly visit. Burger Bueno is pretty freaking amazing but I would say their sides are lacking. OC Burgers are surprisingly good (if you find a good location!) Big Daves is the place I take new hires to impress them with my hole in the wall burger skillz.

You forgot JG's, JC's and Kellers.

Mighty Fine

For a moment there, I thought Californians are moving to Texas to turn the state blue for Obama in the 2010 elections.

I hope In-N-Out venture in Dallas succede. There isn't a strong market in the western United States they have yet to enter except for Denver, Seattle, and Salt Lake City. I have family there so it may be worth a sidetrip.

Nothing compares to Wendy's especially the Baconator.

My wife kept raving about a 5-guys she visited while in Utah on business. They opened one here in Albuquerque, she took me there early to beat the crowd. The burgers were good, but the line of people waiting to order snaked around the entire dining area. We sat at a table, eating, with various people's butts in our faces as the line moved. Most of butts were owned by obvious fast-food lovers. It reminded me of the airline "next to toilet" complaint sketch.
