I guess if you're gonna end it all then going out in spectacular fashion is kind of a cool way to do it.

Oddly enough, I think this was possibly a suicide.

Nah, he never made it inside, think *splat* instead of *crrchunk*... one of my students who lives a hundred yards away swears she didnt hear a thing.

The pic at the top of the article has nothing to do with the story oddly enough - the actual car looked like they set it in a car crusher and flattened it to the door knobs.

I've always wondered why when you see horrifically mangled cars like that why you don't see more gore.

(morbid thought, I know, but I've never seen a blood-stained airbag, and I've seen a lot of smashed cars)

Drove my chevy up a levee and wow did it fly...
and in your third floor living room, I said 'Hi,

I was in a car that the driver jumped off about a six-foot dirt ramp.

Hitting the ground made the car about an inch shorter, pushed the fan shroud into the fan, and wrecked the wheel alignment.

I felt like my fillings had fallen out of my teeth.

/just sayin.

Did he at least get the super insane stunt bonus?

2010-04-24 03:29:11 PM
I've never understood why news papers and such always use the term "gravity defying" or "defied gravity." I'd say, given the situation, his car acted well within the bounds of gravity, unless he was just driving along on a flat road and his car suddenly jumped off the road, did a few somersaults, then faceplanted into the third floor of the building... Which I would totally pay to see.

de·fy (d-f)
tr.v. de·fied, de·fy·ing, de·fies
1.
a. To oppose or resist with boldness and assurance: defied the blockade by sailing straight through it.
b. To refuse to submit to or cooperate with: defied the court order by leaving the country.
2. To be unaffected by; resist or withstand: "So the plague defied all medicines" (Daniel Defoe).
3. To challenge or dare (someone) to do something: She defied her accusers to prove their charges.

Whoever built this building should build the new World Trade Center buildings.

2010-04-24 03:30:49 PM
Fake.

It's a new viral video campaign by GM's new ad agency to give the impression that a GM car could actually get above 100mph, go airborne for more than 200ft, and still manage to hit a building 25ft above the launch point.

2010-04-24 03:31:09 PM
Damn, I was hoping he lived. What a way to go.

The amazing thing is that (even tho it was after midnight) he didnt kill anyone else - that intersection is busy practically all hours of the day an night and he blew through it at Warp Factor 7.

2010-04-24 03:48:20 PM
The video shows a stairway with a cloth awning right underneath the impact spot and somehow the awning is perfectly intact like the car bounced really hard off the building and shot backwards faster than it fell and somehow missed the awning. That means you could have safely been standing under it and seen the car crash of the decade and left without a scratch!

/ok you night have needed new shorts.

2010-04-24 03:51:11 PM
I guess I'll be the first to point out the car didn't enter the building. From the video, he smashed into the end of the building between the second and third floors, bounced off and exploded, then landed about ten feet away from the building.

Although the headline sounds more impressive, and it did get me to click.

/amazing accident all the same.

Or you could watch the video part 2 where you can see he impacted the bottom of his car on the embankment as he continued forward. One of the cars he jumped over was covered with turf falling from the underside of his car collected in the impact. He totally hit the mound, but his momentum was sufficient to continue his forward progress, and up off the mound when he hit the crest.

It is still undetermined what caused the Ritacco to drive into the embankment, which caused the vehicle the become airborne.

Much better. I was confused by the article, because it says that this crash happened in Ohio, but the pic accompanying TFA shows Michigan state police cars.

eggi541: Am I the only one who noticed that the car pictured is not burned yet the story claims the car burst into flames. I smell a Daily Mail staged photo.

It clearly isn't from the same accident scene, since the police cars in TFA are Michigan state troopers while the incident happened in Ohio.
