P O P is what should be done to those who call it pop.
Coke is a brand of soda, not a generic term for soda.
Sodapop is what you get from a drug store fountain.

the correct term is SODA.

I have never seen any bottle of soda ever called "pop".
I'm not talking about brand names either.
Ever notice on a bottle of Sprite or Sierra Mist that they call it a Lemon-Lime Soda, not Lemon-Lime Pop.

It is soda.

2010-04-22 09:59:16 PM
Pop sounds correct to me but Soda is a close second around here in Winnipeg. "Wanna Coke?" can be used and then you will be asked, "What do you have?". It's all good in Winnipeg but I'm certain Pop is preferred.

2010-04-22 10:01:18 PM
I'm from the south where it's usually called "soda" and when we moved up here to the midwest, everyone thought it was funny that I call it "soda" instead of "pop". I keep telling them that 'pop' is what a balloon does when you stick a needle in it...you 'pop' a zit...you 'pop' your wife for not bringing you a 'soda' with your sammie.
It's farking SODA!

pop is an onomatopoeia, not a substance

2010-04-22 10:04:50 PM
Using "Coke" as a generic name is an easy way to tell people you're dumb.

2010-04-22 10:05:22 PM
It's soda to me, except for Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper. DCDP is the carbonated essence of refreshment.

Actually, most major brands don't include any such classification whatsoever.

But in not-even-remotely-related WTF news:

"According to a woman, she and her boyfriend got into a fight over a soda."

Yeah, I'll be entirely honest and say I've probably argued over something as dumb or worse with an SO at some point in time...

"At the end of the argument, he allegedly threw the drink at her..."

While not entirely gentleman, like....not exactly the end of the world.

"...and hit her with a remote control..."

Ok, that was probably a mistake. Heck, I've thrown my remote at the TV before in disgust.

"...and a steel wrench."

See, PROBABLY crossed the line on that one. I mean, you're sitting in the living room with a soda, the remote control is right by your side...you actually have to go GET the wrench.

Sultan Of Herf: I say coke, becuase thats what I want, a coke. Anything else is just a substitute. Well as far as colas go anyways. Prefer Mt Dew. That was until a couple weeks ago...getting off the soda now, switching to juice.

Most of the juices you buy at the store these days are loaded with as much or more HFCS than many carbonated beverages. If you want to be smart, you would move to water as your beverage of choice, though there are some 100% natural juices which are halfway decent for you. Liquid calories are an absolute waste.

I'm from the Midwest where it's usually called "pop" and when I moved out west to California, everyone thought it was funny that I call it "pop" instead of "soda". I keep telling them that "soda" is what you can mix scotch or vodka with. You can use "soda" in cooking. You can even use "soda" to get some stains out of clothes.
It's farking POP!
