I watched WWE Raw, and all the Raw wrestlers were stuck in Ireland. So, they pretty much turned it into a live Smackdown show with MacGruber as host. So I started calling it 'WWE Monday Night Smackdown Live' to combine all the show names.

Couldn't they just get those desperate enough to get out of the UK out via cruise ship? Yes I'm aware Trans-Oceanic transportation is pretty much out of favor since we have Trans-Oceanic flight that is obviously much faster, but I'd say that they need a backup plan just in case that volcano decides to spew more ash into the air.

Now if only a giant tooth paste cloud would descend over Britain.

Zod. I would kneel.

But I'm more embarrassed about my spelling.

I'm glad the nanny state has something to worry about, lest the Brits figure out they don't need a nanny.

See, the problem is that the weather here in the UK is TOO GOOD. The northwest winds that are causing this ash cloud to drift towards the UK are also bringing with them day after day of glorious sunshine, stunningly beautiful weather, and one of the best springs I've ever seen.

As an American, stranded here in the UK, wishing very much he could go home and just resume his normal life, see his new girlfriend, and not have to rely on couchsurfing and working out of a strange office, I have never been more depressed by reports that the weather will continue to be wonderful.

I think the situation is all the more frustrating because the skies are so clear (reporting from North Yorkshire - it's hella windy and clear blue skies, as well as friggin' cold) and there's no sign of this "ash" on the ground like one might expect.

/Have no idea whether my Thursday morning flight out of Manchester to Vienna is a go/no go and probably won't know until Wednesday night. Ugh. So much for planning.

2010-04-20 05:50:48 AM
Not only are the skies blue, but the lack of contrails here in London make them especially and unusually clear.

Porcelina

Check out www.seat61.com - you may well be able to get a sleeper train service down to Vienna, if you can get across to Paris somehow.

I drove from London to North Germany because I had to be at work and the airlines were closed.... Now its cold and rainy in Hamburg and pleasant and sunny in london.

Good call on my part.

Anyone stuck in London want a beer? My holiday was cancelled but I can't be arsed going into work. It's only 11am, pubs are opening!!

I actually considered doing all the touristy stuff that being a resident here I take for granted and never do, guessing that with no new influx of tourists they'd all be empty, so no queues.

I just saw a plane flying over head, I don't think I've ever stared at a plane flying over head and looked closely at the contrails before, because it seemed slightly odd.

Also let me join the chorus of people loving the weather, it's a lovely day today, which is why I don't fancy doing nothing.

I've considered trying to to arrange a "Stranded in the UK" Fark party, but I doubt there are enough of us to make it worthwhile.

2010-04-20 06:15:11 AM
Isn't there a London Fark party coming up? If things don't improve much all the stranded might be able to attend anyway. Then again if they don't improve people from without might not be able to make it anyway.

Well, considering I'll be here until the 25th at minimum, I might well attend that.

shame a nuclear cloud doesn't fall on the US... could use the giggle... nothing like americans poking fun at the british, which is like poking fun at themselves.

Americans world policy was englands world policy back in 1800's.. good job ! police the world, as your country falls apart... more poverty in america than some third world countries ;)

america the new england, with bigger dicks at the helm

i'm not anti american, since it involves every country bar america... it's obviously the standard norm unless you're american.

the land of more floride in the water supply in order to make sure they don't need dentists - creating problems further down the line.

quick invent an eating disorder or anti depre.. too late america already had them copyrighted years ago

Weather here in the east midlands is lovely today, as well.

However, this ash situation needs resolving. I'm going to be very grumpy if I can't get to the US next week. :(

He sounds like mstd on speed.

So we're having more bodies at the Fark party on Saturday? Excellent.

[rescheduled for a Saturday flight, but, who knows?]

Iron Man 2 premiere moved from London to LA because of the volcanic ash cloud. Leading to two thoughts:

1. Moving from London to LA because of better visibility. Are they farking joking?

2. If only there were some sort of super hero capable of doing something.

When the volcano named Jyvokcjacakjawayahshiat blew two hundred years ago, it didn't stop for two years.

I'd say the transatlantic cruise ship industry is going to do well for a couple of years.

Yea, I had a similar thought. Too bad all the ships are in use. It would have been sweet to able to see somebody pull together a couple ships and crew to run back and forth Europe and US trips for a few weeks/months.
With all the stranded air travelers, I am sure a bunch of them would have been quite willing to take a 3 or 4 days boat ride rather than waiting for who knows how long for a flight.

Nah. Some dumbfark is going to hit an iceberg again, and that'll ruin that, too.

Speaking of The Titanic:

Ferry companies operating out of Dover will be allowed to take 10% more passengers on their larger ships to help ease the current transport crisis.

According to David Osler, reporter for Lloyd's List, this suspends "whole chunks of the Safety of Life at Sea Convention, introduced after the Titanic disaster of 1912".

What could possibly go wrong?

Why? We've had volcanoes. We grow them domestically.

I said it in another thread, I'll say it again. I keep hearing the news programs say "ass clown". As in: "A new ASS CLOWN headed for the UK means London's airports may not be able to open". Have fun not hearing that now. BWAHAHAHAHA!

So yeah, I was totally supposed to be flying into London on Emirates to meet my hot Icelandic super model girlfriend.
