Well, it makes sense to surround yourself with men who are fat. You know, sleek-headed men who have no trouble sleeping. You gotta stay away from the ones who look lean and hungry. They think too much. They're dangerous.

I was wondering this myself. I was also wondering why we don't see enough bearded/mustached people running for or winning offices anymore.

Fat people are lazy. Lazy people generally don't end up doing much of anything, not to mention the legwork needed to have a political career. It's not just politics - obese people are SEVERELY underrepresented among any kind of "successful" population.

Man, this column is absolutely pointless, but it mixes 2 things that everyone on fark abhors.

Fatties and politics.

Professional troll indeed.

Honestly, you want me to read a column written by some douchebag who believes all of our nation's problems would be solved if we just had more family entertainment? Michael Medved is a piece of shiat.

Bunk. It has a lot more to do with prejudice than with laziness. During those periods in history or in those cultures where a rounder build is or was desirable (often because it serves as a visible sign of wealth, because poor people can only afford to get fat in post-Earl Butz America, where empty calories are heavily subsidized by the taxpayers), fat people are or were disproportionately represented among the very successful.

Only one way to test this theory.

We'll need 200 for the regular focus group, and another 30 for the neuromarketing focus group.

For the latter, we'll put them into PET and fMRI scanners and show them pictures of fat people and skinny people, juxtaposed with various types of music and imagery to see if their brains react positively or negatively.

As a baseline, we'll show them imagery and music from the last few elections. Remember to compare their questionnaire answers to their scans to make sure they were telling the truth about who they voted for last time.

For the former, we'll ask them how they feel about fat people in positions of authority, along with showing them photos of the largesque in various fascisms fashions and surroundings.

I'll expect a research report on my desk by Thursday. Go, people, go!

Come to think of it, throughout history every country that was led by a heavyweight ruler usually did quite well.

Bizarre. Not bizzare.

Yeah, people are judged based on how they look. You can't change your race*, but you sure as hell can lose some weight.

You can change your religion, though.

*you can try, though, if you're Sammy Sosa or the late Michael Jackson

Our political class isn't failing due to a lack of fat bastards. It is failing due to an over abundance of selfish, greedy, narcissistic boomers. Medved is a tool.

Being fat is not a desirable trait; not now or ever. Quit justifying your disgusting lifestyle and making excuses. Putting the fork down solves the problem.

That's the dumbest article I've read in a while, and I'm on Fark daily.

Does he think people like being fat? Like mentioned upthread, it used to be a sign of wealth and/or success. Nowadays, being fit is a sign of that.

God, this is so dumb.

As a conservative there is a reason Michael Medved has the lowest ratings of any nationally syndicated talk radio host.

Because we don't think about him

His show is only nationally syndicated because he has naked pictures of the CEO of Salem or something... every Salem affiliate is REQUIRED to take Medved's awful show

Is it just me or did most of those presidents not look fat at all (With the exception of Taft, and maybe Clinton). Being 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds doesn't make you fat.

Rich people do what they can to separate themselves from everyone else.

In past centuries, food (especially meat) was expensive and most people doing outdoor manual labor so the rich separated themselves by being fat and pasty.

Now fast food is super cheap and most people sit in an office all day so skinny and orange is the thing rich people do.

He actually expects congress to look like 'real america'? Yeah, right. Do you think Congressmen actually eat the hfcs-laced shiat your hick ass buys at Ingles? Nope, our leaders are having healthy foods from 'elitist' stores, if there rich asses can actually be bothered to cook food instead of just eating out. "Let them have cake" indeed.

Oh, and Bill Bennett? His career also suffered from being a fatty?

I bet I never would have guessed that.

No it doesn't, it makes you hungry.

Eating less and exercising (burning calories) is how you solve the problem. It's not an all or nothing proposition, because telling people to stop eating is pointless.

I've read every Phil Herup comment in this thread and agree with 100% of them.

This means that it is time to go to the bar.
