This town is just a few miles north of where I live...and it really was a neat old place. Most of the buildings were just like they were 100 years ago. I've been there several times. The old hardware store was really interesting. All the old shelving and many of the displays were still there, as well as the old counter weight elevator, when I visited. It really is a shame that this has happened, not to mention the loss of life. Many of the buildings had been renovated to some degree in the last few years. If you saw the antique car dealer's destroyed building on the news...I've been there too. It was full of old cars, many in mint/near-mint condition...

What? No more Pringles?

CRAP!

2003-05-06 01:49:56 PM

2003-05-06 01:53:24 PM
It's those damn dirty mutants I tell ya. We're not helpless though. Join your local chapter of F.O.H.

On a more serious note: Wow. And tornado season is still young....

2003-05-06 01:53:50 PM
Okay, it's sad and all, but I think it's funny how people in the South are always talking about their "old" buildings that are only 100 years old. Go up north where entire towns are at least 200 years old. Or go over to Europe where things are thousands of years old. Then go back home to Dixie and tell me how special your "old" buildings are.

2003-05-06 01:54:09 PM
WTF!! oh wait, i dont eat either

2003-05-06 01:54:14 PM
...and what does this say for "Lean Manufacturing"?

hmmm?

2003-05-06 01:54:44 PM
I know they want to keep the cans narrow enough so the Pringles don't break, but can't they come up with some new can design so I can fit my farking hand into the damn thing to fish out the last 5-7 chips? I nearly had to bust out a handsaw one time, it wasn't pretty.

2003-05-06 01:55:18 PM
Holy macaroni! Being safe up North, I wasn't really paying attention to these tornados until now. Jebus must be pissed off or something.

2003-05-06 01:55:55 PM

Damn Aarkieboy, you sound slightly sentimental. Why don't you go photoshop some gay porn in front of the destoyed buildings and you'll feel much better...

That is sad though...

2003-05-06 01:56:55 PM
To those uninitiated with Torrengos- those are the Pringles of Tostitos. And they suck. Huge.

2003-05-06 01:57:11 PM
Be prepared to spend outrageous amounts for Pringles snacks on Ebay. Always coming through in a pinch. Or a disaster.

2003-05-06 01:57:36 PM
Best.Name.Ever, I'm no defender of The South, but I think that's because we (the Yankees) burned them all down in the 1860s.

2003-05-06 01:58:02 PM
In other news, the price of Pringles skyrockets to over $10.00 a can. Panic ensues.

2003-05-06 01:58:10 PM
I'll ask again: Where in the article does it mention Pringles????????????

2003-05-06 01:58:34 PM
"I'VE GOT A FEVER!! AND THE ONLY PRESCRIPTION!! IS MORE PRINGLES!!"

Umm, gravity? Your big ass hands should have no trouble catching the chips :)

Beorn: Yep, and what didn't get burned is now covered with Kudzu.

Old buildings in the South? We have to beat the developers away with sticks just to keep any structures older than 10-15 years from being paved over and turned into strip malls.

The developers down here won't rest until there's a tanning salon and chinese take-out place every 1/4 mile.

2003-05-06 02:00:32 PM
I second all of the

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!s

2003-05-06 02:00:54 PM
"Old Southern building" = "1970s single-wide"

2003-05-06 02:00:55 PM
Best.Name.Ever, your buildings were 100 years old at one point, too. Being in Oklahoma, most of the buildings here are far younger than those in other parts of the south (OK hasn't even been a state for 100 years) but that doesn't mean that our history is any less valuable. I mean, I thought it was awesome that my college dorm (in New Hampshire) was built in 1790, but it's equally cool that my hometown's courthouse, one of the first in Indian Territory, was built in 1901.

2003-05-06 02:01:28 PM
pringles are good, my hand always gets stuck in the can. But what is a Torengo?

2003-05-06 02:02:08 PM
Ummmmmm, did I read the same article as everyone else?

I didn't see anything about pringles.

RE: Old buildings

I cannot remember the name or author ( but Forgetfulness by Billy Collins I CAN remember) of a sci-fi story where the entire planet's surface becomes covered with relics.

Forgetfulness by Billy Collins

The name of the author is the first to go
followed obediently by the title, the plot,
the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel
which suddenly becomes one you have never read, never
even heard of,

etc. Great poem. Great poet.

I can't live without Spicy Cajun Pringles.

Today's theme: Spicy Cajun Pringles are neither spicy nor cajun. Discuss.

2003-05-06 02:02:39 PM
God forbid that a tornado should hit Bentonville, Arkansas, the home of Wal-Mart. White trash all over the country won't know where to shop for their XXXXXL Stretch Waist Denim Capris.

2003-05-06 02:02:45 PM
Lordargent

Yes but when you upend the can to get those last few chips, all the remaining chip particles fall onto the floor, and who the hell's gonna clean that up? OK my dog will, nevermind.

And you know what they say about guys with big ass hands?

They need big ass baseball gloves.

2003-05-06 02:03:40 PM
Why can't they make Pringles cans big enough to fit my head in there to eat the chips?!

2003-05-06 02:03:56 PM
Another made-up misleading headline on Fark that prompts a discussion by people who didn't read the article...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

2003-05-06 02:04:28 PM

Typical of the damage was Franklin, Kan. It wiped out a third of the town, said Eldon Bedene, the countys emergency management director. The trees are like somebody came in and cut them off 10 feet above the ground. And the Pringles Plant, my god. Yes, they're processed crap; but their our processed crap. Its a mess.

2003-05-06 02:05:07 PM
XXXXXL Stretch Waist Denim Capris.

Damn, that's a lot of X's. I think this belongs in the thread a few doors down.

NICU8697: Yes but when you upend the can to get those last few chips, all the remaining chip particles fall onto the floor, and who the hell's gonna clean that up? OK my dog will, nevermind.

Wait wait, isn't the point of the can to not have any chip particles? Who's handling your pringles cans the USPS?

<yeah, like there's anything else to discuss in this thread>

From:http://www.torengos.com/faq.html
Where can I find Torengos in stores? Find Torengos in stores near Pringles.

How does Torengos Compare to other tortilla chips? Torengos are the only triangular, white-corn tortilla chips with a "bowl" shape, curved for serious dipping and stacked in a re-sealable triangular canister to protect against breakage. Torengos Tortilla Chips are perfectly shaped to hold dip or salsa, without all the messy drips, and make a great tasting snack!

How will Torengos be priced? All retail-pricing decisions are at the discretion of the stores. But they should be priced similar to other tortilla snacks.

Are Torengos Kosher? And if so, why aren't cans labeled? All the ingredients are kosher. The Orthodox Union has certified Torengos as kosher and has authorized the use of the OU symbol on the Torengos package. Look for the kosher symbol on the package in the near future.

Where can you find Torengos? Almost anywhere! Torengos can be purchased in grocery stores, mass merchant outlets, drug stores, and clubs.

What's in a Torengo? The primary ingredient in Torengos Tortilla Chips is from white corn. Torengos are cooked in 100% vegetable oil.

The Pringles plant is in Jackson, one of the places that got hit the hardest. Obviously this is common sense.

pringles are good, my hand always gets stuck in the can.

I always get my member stuck in the can.

Look at the chart about halfway through the article that lists the deadliest tornadoes in US history.

Alabama sucks. We've had F5's run through here. More people get killed around here from them than Oklahoma and Kansas.

I spent most of last evening in the bathroom with the TV cranked up. Was under a tornado warning several times. And it's gonna suck again tonight too. And I live in the shadow of one of the sirens. Creepy as hell. They turn the power off for a few seconds so people can hear the sirens. Wicked.

2003-05-06 02:06:42 PM
President Bush, who was visiting Little Rock, Ark., said Monday that the federal government would move as quickly as possible to help the storm-damaged areas. Natures awfully tough at times, and the best thing we can do right now is to pray for those who have suffered, he said.

Yep, that's the best thing! See, he's both COMPASSIONATE
and CONSERVATIVE!
