Nappy Imus: Bathia_Mapes: I don't know about this causing pollution, but feeding bread to ducks & geese can cause a disease calledAngel Wing.

They say thats a theory, but it sounds more like a hypothesis. But it sounds like it might be the bread. Makes unprovable sense. :D

According to the link, it could be either diet or genetics. Says they need more studies.

angry_scientist: Screw ducks, swans are the more violent ones. When I was feeding them when I was little, 3 or 4 of em came after me and tried to eat from my hands, then when I dropped the food in front of me, they ate it and came for my shoelaces! Fark swans.

THIS
We went and fed the ducks the other day near our home. The swans will get downright vicious and hiss at you and shiat. Crazy cwackers.
Sea gulls aren't much better. You feed one and they beckon for a thousand more and then the little bastards start bomb diving you until you drop the goods and run.

Farkshower1972: You now cannot feed ducks in San Luis Obispo.

In Ottumwa, Iowa, "It is unlawful for any male person, within the corporate limits of the (city), to wink at any female person with whom he is unacquainted."

In Los Angeles, you cannot bathe two babies in the same tub at the same time.

In Zion, Ill., it is illegal for anyone to give lighted cigars to dogs, cats, and other domesticated animals kept as pets.

In Carmel, N.Y., a man can't go outside while wearing a jacket and pants that do not match.

In St. Louis, it's illegal to sit on the curb of any city street and drink beer from a bucket.

In Hartford, Conn., you aren't allowed to cross a street while walking on your hands.

In Baltimore, it's illegal to throw bales of hay from a second-story window within the city limits. It's also illegal to take a lion to the movies.

In Oxford, Ohio, it's illegal for a woman to strip off her clothing while standing in front of a man's picture.

In Carrizozo, N.M., it's forbidden for a female to appear unshaven in public (includes legs and face).

In Pennsylvania it is illegal to have over 16 women live in a house together because that constitutes a brothel...however up to 120 men can live together, without breaking the law.

In Michigan, a woman isn't allowed to cut her own hair without her husband's permission.

/ Stupid laws that make no sense are nothing new.

I've never seen a list of looney laws that was properly sourced.

If nothing else, I'm sure some of these are carefully phrased to make them sound more exotic. For example:
It's also illegal to take a lion to the movies.: The actual law is probably "You cannot bring animals into movie theaters." or "You cannot bring potentially dangerous animals into darkened rooms indoors."

I fully support feeding Canadian Geese a diet of only white bread.

As was pointed out earlier the city council probably banned feeding water foul because of the belief that the unnaturally high carb diet ruins their wings. It should be fine to feed them old scraps of lettuce.

My favorite:
In Connorsville, Wisconsin, it's illegal for a man to shoot off a gun while his female partner is having an orgasm.

bugmn99: XSLUMLORDX: We had a lot of ducks and geese die at a local lake from botulism, basically they were overfed and the food and poop caused an anaerobic condition in the lake, some died and it spread the bacteria through the lake. I could give a shiat about the birds but the smell of their rotting bodies was nasty. This is a valid concern for local governments.

Don't feed the waterfowl.

Thanks for that.

What's the difference between you and a mallard with a cold? One's a sick duck and I can't remember how it ends, but your mother's a whore

Oxford MD prohibits feeding ducks and geese on the Strand.

It's because of the RATS that are undermining the shore line.

I never would have met my wife without the duck pond by our college. Memories of feeding ducks at that pond are intertwined with the formative days of our relationship.

We went back to revisit, there are signs saying you cant feed ducks. Of course there are no ducks to feed now, cause they all moved to the city lake where you CAN feed them.

Its sad.

Oh well. Now that Ive rambled, I feel old.

make the motions of repeatedly tossing bread crumbs out of your lap

Bart: Joe Banks, 82 years young has come to this pond every day for the past 17 years, to feed the ducks. But last month, Joe made a discovery...the ducks...were gone! Some say the ducks went to Canada, others say Toronto. And some people think, that Joe used to sit down there, near those ducks. But it could be, that there is just no room in this modern world, for an old man...and his ducks.

Ducks are nasty animals, I used to own two. They shiat EVERYWHERE, even in their own drinking water. We had to get rid of them because they kept shiatting in our chickens' water.

The problem with feeding the birds is that when you feed them, you attract lots more of them then the local environment can take, leading to all sorts of aggression and overcrowding issues.

Really, it's not a good thing. My town as an ordinance against it too, with signs up all over the local park saying don't feed the birds.

People still do though, which lets you get up real close to them which is fun for photography.

We should ban the feeding of humans in city parks. They're disgusting and leave their syntheitc shiat all over the place.

/It's not the ducks' fault they shiat.

2010-04-08 01:20:28 AM
Meh. We feed the ducks every week. Cracked corn, for the win. Buy a metric shiatload at a feed store before winter, and the local tamed ducks come running/flapping/flopping/crash-landing. A couple of them stand on my wife's feet so she can't get too far from them with the corn.

And there's a huge male white goose who oversees all the ducks and protects them from unknown vagrants, dogs and the occasional squirrel.
