Luckily, my job is 5 miles away from my house, and I still budget myself $100/month for gas.

while i do expect the fuel prices to inexplicably rise by summer time, i was a bit shocked to see signs with fuel prices about $0.10 to $0.15 higher at 6 am today than at 4 pm yesterday...normally it happens like that on really stormy days, really cold days, or within a couple days prior to a holiday...none of which happened this week

You own a gas station and your tanks contain X gallons you purchased at Z dollars. If the price increase on gas is 10% at the wholesale level, how much do you need to raise the prices of the gas in the tanks to pay for the gas you will be replacing it with?

2010-04-06 10:40:57 AM
Speculation should be outlawed. The ONLY reason gas prices rose so bad last time was because the speculators were selling back and forth between themselves artificially raising the price, it had absolutely nothing to do with either supply or demand.

Yep, but keep buying those big houses in the 'burbs, as far as you can from where you work/shop/go to the doctor/etc., keep deriding "urban" life as something bad, keep refusing to invest in the community where you do everything but live, and then watch me try to even lift the needle on the care"o" meter off its pin when you whine about how you made all these lifestyle choices based on the idea that gas prices weren't subject to some sort of price volatility.

Oil Companies are going to start getting nervous if this happens. Everyone in the industry knows that this will fark us in the end. That includes the CEO's. I firmly believe that some jackass economist says this shiat just to see it go up. He then goes to his bunk and rubs one out thinking about the stupid people that bought into his ideas.

Hopefully you live in a climate where you can bike to work. While it will have fluctuations, oil prices, and thus gas, will trend up much faster than the rate of inflation. It's simple economics, growth of demand is out pacing growth in supply. Now add in disruption in supply, whether its because of weather, political, or depletion of aging oil fields, and you have the potential for spikes in prices that are catastrophic to economic growth.

As to your flatulence, I hope you have an understanding family. I got out of cleanup after Easter dinner because of my nasty gas.

/It's easier to say sorry before they smell it
//I find the added dread in the moments before the stench hits my victims adds to the experience

It's almost as bad as real estate, but without the monetary exchange rate factored in... Demand is high! Prices soar, invest now!!!! Demand low, supply high, uhhh prices are lower by uh, 5% from last year PEAK HOUSING/OIL BUY NAO!!! Demand avg, prices low- "it's just a cycle"

The throngs of skinny jeans-wearing, faux-kitsch t-shirt-sporting, combed their hair with a piece of bacon-looking, PBR-drinking, messenger bag-shouldering, ironic mustache-having clones flocking around Joe's Coffee on South Congress in Austin might change your opinion.

Yes, you're right (except for the "mine's better" part) but it's not the Oil Company's fault the system is broken.

Whatever. Living in a place where you personally need to drive a lot, unless you are a rancher, farmer, logger, miner etc. (or a person who works to support one or more of these) is a lifestyle choice. One of the costs of being able to pee off your back porch is that the job/doctor/school/store that you HAVE to utilize may come with a wildly fluctuating (and generally increasing) cost based on the fact that you'll have to buy gas to drive there.

This whole thing is stupid. Since these "scientists" claim that oil comes from dinosaurs, they should clone dinosaurs and then crush them into oil. It makes perfect sense, but the liberals don't want to admit that oil is a limitless substance manufactured deep within the Earth. It's all part of their plan to take over the government with their global warming hysteria.
