That damn sure wouldn't be tolerated in Georgia.
The headline would have been "Fifty bodies taken to morgue after break in."

Squatters are a new and entirely hippie thing.

It would never happen in every other country in the world.

Subby seems to be confusing "hippies" with "yuppies". The article is talking about people who lost their homes because of the housing speculation bubble. House-flippers are almost by definition not hippies.

Plus, they're protesting for free shiat, not free love or sustainable living.

Besides being in SF, I'm not seeing where 'hippie' is coming from here.

//There are homeless hippies, mostly in Berkeley. They seem to be cool with being homeless, though, for the most part, less rioting and more selling knitted hats.

Yeah. Peaceful anarchy is all well and good until someone comes along with a baseball bat and says "Yeah, this is mine." (or until you have to share your food with the farker who always spends his earnings on weed and smokes it all before you get some)These guys are a bunch of assholes.

Lets just put it this way, say you were sitting on a stockpile of food. And lets say it was enough to feed a city for ten years, also that even if the hungry masses got pissed off enough to try to take it they couldn't. Now this is more food then you will ever need and people are going to go without if you don't share. Do you keep it all to yourself and let people starve because "it's yours"?

So whats next, taking the second TV that you dont use that often? Your second desktop because your netbook is good enough? I wont shed any tears for anyone who can afford two TVs?

No one else can tell anyone else that he has "had enough" of anything.

I am thinking that you should be limited to one Fark post per day because I have arbitrarily decided that one post is enough for one person for a day...

1) Announce through the homeless community that there is a vacant property ripe for the squatting.
2) Wait for hippies to move in.
3) Bolt the doors & burn the place to the ground.
4) ???
5) Profit.

Buy my other house (the one I used to live in that's located in another state) for what I owe on it and I'll get out of the two house business asap.

Is your answer the same if you replace "food" with "money"?

A person should freely be generous and help his community. That same person, however, should NEVER be coerced by government to do so. Therein lies the essential difference.

I am familiar with this case. The 80 year old man was not evicted. He can't be in SF. He was paid and paid well to vacate. He took the money and now wants more and has these thugs to help him. Its a pure and simple shakedown.

The sad part about this is that the SFPD did nothing. This is the true face of "progressive" politics in SF.

About 5 p.m. Sunday, he said, police knocked on the door of the building and asked protesters how long they planned to stay. According to Gullicksen, they responded that they had no immediate plans to leave.

That's some fine police work there, Lou.

It's one thing to support the ownership of the fruits of one's labor, but how can anyone defend the idea of property in land - especially in an age when so many are indebted to the banks and paying of debts for decades so they can own a house and land to put it on?

Take the land away from the landed elite and give it to the people. America needs land reform now!
