Hey, if they can arrest your dog for not showing up for jury duty, why can't they arrest you for beating yourself up?

Is Sullivans still on OBT?
How about that Drive through liquor store that doubled as a gun range/rental place?

Mikemir: LOL! I tend to avoid the area in general, but I've heard that now they just hide in the bushes instead of walking the street. Just what you need... she-male hookers JUMPING OUT OF BUSHES at you.

I wonder which part of Curry Ford this woman lives off of? Bets on the stretch between Conway and Goldenrod?

I don't visit enough to know... but the liquour store/gun range is apparnently still there... I hear Phillips talking about it on the radio a few weeks ago.

hmmmm, yeah, why don't i believe that the man was not happy at putting her in jail for something hes done? i don't think too many abusers openly admit to the cops that they beat someone!

Good luck you can't get arrested for beating yourself where I live. I've been beating myself since I was 8.
2003-05-02 10:10:33 AM
Ahhh, don't beat yourself up over it, after all, it's only spousal abuse.

This story rates right up there with the guy in Texas who saved 4 kids from a fire that he may have started himself.

I'd hit it.  And so would she, apparently.

This is the computer's fault. By that I mean the people who created the software, of course. The box of processed sand is just following orders.

It used to be you would write down identifying information about the person you want to arrest (or ticket, revoke the license of, etc.). When you write a description a typing mistake is mostly harmless. "The suspect has vrown hair and blur eyes" -- you know what that is supposed to say, or at least you know it is mistaken.

Now the entire concept of a description is obsolete. Only the database key -- the ID number, whether it be SSN, license number, VIN, or something else -- matters. A typing mistake on the ID number will automatically generate a correct description of the wrong thing instead of an incorrect description of the right thing.

If somebody steals your license plates you may get a ticket that says your car was illegally parked. Usually that's easy to deal with: say "my car is a pink Camaro, not the blue Volvo described on the ticket" and any fair parking clerk (some do exist) will drop the ticket. But some meter maids have gone high tech. Now the ticket for the blue Volvo with stolen plates will claim that a pink Camaro was parked there because a computer filled out the ticket based on the plate number to save some typing.

On a more frivolous note (this is fark, after all), sale or other distribution of "instruments of self-abuse" is illegal in Massachusetts. General Laws chapter 272 section 21.

Florida is the most Farked up state in the union. Before long the police will be arresting themselves because the paperwork said so.

I'll stay in the good old terrorist bullseye of New York.

Nobody slaps the cuffs on my woman but me!

tasteless wife-beatin' joke

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?
Nothing, you already told her twice.

/tasteless wife-beatin' joke (that I've heard at least a hundred times, in every playboy/maxim type magazine)

"-The Lord High Executioner is dead.

-Oh woe ! Murdered of course.

-No, oddly enough no. They usually are but this one just got careless one night and signed his name on the wrong dotted line. They came for him while he slept.

-He should have told them they had the wrong man.

-Oh he did, but you see they didn't, they had the right man and they had the form to prove it.

-Te. bloody red tape eh ?"

Anyone else notice this beating happened way back in November I think it said? November?! It takes the police department *gets out the fingers...1..2...3...* 6months (?!) to separate and arrest someone for a beating?! What the hell?

Give the police a break! You think it's easy to find time to arrest wife beaters in between catching peaceful pot smokers? Excuse me, I mean "terrorist-supporting dangerous narcotic users."

Heh. This reminds me of the part in Fight Club where the Narrator beats himself up in his boss's office. Wish I had a pic of that.

The error has led to an internal review of Lamar's word-processing unit.

Oh yeah, gonna turn up some real evidence there.

Just Florida's gentle way of saying "Shuddup biatch; get me a sammich!"

"He's not happy about them putting me in jail for something he's done."

Awww, what a nice guy.

Not the cops defense, but another way of looking at things. What if the mistake would have been the other way around? What if they arrested the person with the correct name, when they were supposed to arrest the person with the correct description. Which piece of information is the arresting officer supposed to default to?

The arresting officer may not know anything about the case. He is just serving the arrest warrant.

The only info that doesn't fit the story is that the husband didn't jump out a back window when the cops showed up. Everything else: the beating, knocked up, hubby probably doesn't have a job - it all makes sense.

This is why "community oriented policing" is such an important concept. It would have been much harder for this to happen in neighboring Seminole County, because the deputies who went to the door to serve the papers (court papers are enforced by the county, NEVER by city cops, even within a city, in Florida) would have likely known the Gentrys by name, and would most likely have been the same deputies who responded to every previous call.
