[Follow-up] Only 4% of the money donated to Haiti actually went there, the other 96% went into hookers and blow overhead.

Just another example of voodoo economics.

Pound it on a fault line,
What will it take to get it through to you, precious?

Even if the 10 billion all goes to fixing up haiti, haiti still has one critical flaw no amount of money will ever fix. It is filled with Haitians.

Why isn't we haven't heard a damn thing about the Dominican Republic?

The epicenter was rather close to the border. Where are all the baseball players coming forward talking about how the earthquake hit close to home?

That is ~$1000 per Haitian. The average annual income is LESS THAN $400. Earthquakes would appear to be quite a profitable enterprise for Haiti.

Its awesome no doubt about it. But why is it a country can only get large amounts of aid and attention if it has had a recent natural disaster?

Its not like Ethiopia doesn't need the money just as bad.

RanDomino: awesome, more infrastructure and loan guarantees for sweatshops.

And the cycle repeats. No education, no building codes, no ecological policy... just a re-built mess.

$25 would have gotten them back to the point they where at prior to the earthquake yet we throw billions of dollars away that could be spent inside our country.

God has decided to punish Haiti and we should not interfere with this process. Maybe they are meant to suffer for their sins. Next time they will twice about the voodoo.

All in all, they probably will get between 5-10 years per capita income per person. I would take that in exchange for wiping out my house. More so if it was a shack. Or even better, rented.

Haiti might start looking like Dubai in a few years.

waste of money, hand out 20 years worth of birth control and evacute all aid groups, come back and see what happens

I'm sure their govt wont take advantage of that... oh wait they already have...

Please remember that aid pledges are pledges, not money. It is unlikely tey will receive all the money pledged.

There are usually huge strings attached. For example, the EU gave tsunami aid to Thailand on the condition that Thailand purchased an equivalent amount on a new fleet of Airbus planes instead of Boeing 747s. The U.S. paid for the rebuilding of Iraq, contingent that American and allied nation contractors where hired to do most of the work.

Aid isn't usually designed to help the victims... it is designed as a convenient way to hand out lucrative contracts to all your cronies.

2010-04-01 02:20:31 PM
That's a lot of loose money. If I were in the terrorism business, I'd head over to Haiti and start a "construction" company.

2010-04-01 03:04:02 PM
What a waste of money. They should burn it for warmth and it would be a bigger help to their society then fattening them up with food so they can pump out more babies.

Retarded Rabid Elk:

True. Alot of the "aid" goes directly to the contractors, with no middleman even involved. Corporate welfare at it's finest.

Has to be done with WTO and free trade regulations in place against protectionist policies

It should be enough cash to pay the interest on their debt to the IMF.

Bill Clinton told the conference. "Haiti could become the first completely wireless country in the Caribbean."

Why? I mean I understand roads, schools, hospitals.. etc. But why wireless? Maybe if there's a fark-ton of leftover cash, then go ahead, but really...

$9,900,000,000 - Donation pledges to Haiti
