(Mercury News)   75 years after its inception, Monopoly remains as fun as ever. Especially when it is played on a larger than life Monopoly board by people wearing hats symbolizing each play piece. I GET TO BE THE CAR   (mercurynews.com) divider line 164

I remember when I was a kid, we decided to break out the Monopoly board one day and a fight broke out over who gets to be the car between me and my friend. Finally, I just said, "Fine, you can be the car. But I get to be the Windigo!" and pulled out one of my D&D minis. I actually won that game in under an hour.

Of course you wouldn't include an image of said larger than life board in the article. That would be silly.

What if they scaled Pornopoly like this?

The best part of Monopoly is the wheeling and dealing you get into when someone starts going bankrupt. "I'll trade you all four railroads for free parking on Park Place." Stuff like that. If someone was that hung up over which piece they got to play, I'd just wait until they owed me rent on a property with a hotel and force them to mortgage their game piece.

I *used* to play some house rules (the "free parking" rebates, for one), but I don't anymore. Though I have tried to do a Quad-opoly. It's a pain in the ass though, keeping track of how much you have and all that....

\and I know it's been covered before, but why must every article of this type come without pics???

Dude, the Free Parking Jackpot rule was the bane of my Monopoly playing existence.

A Quad-opoly?

Huh... I can't say that I ever tried that variation.

It's like Monty Python - it's one of those effects that's too expensive to show.

My friends and i are junkies, so we've got Coke-opoly, Star Wars-opoly, Python-opoly..and so on. Just use different versions to avoid confusion of board pieces....

Nice!

I have a few different versions myself... but I never went the Quad-opoly route.

Interesting jazz, that...

No love for the Horse? That was my piece.

Anyone ever play with real money? We used to play with $1 Monopoly money = $0.01 of real money. So landing on Boardwalk with a hotel would cost you $20 for example. Everyone bought in with $15 to start with and contributed another $10-$20 for the bank depending on the number of players. Same as a $40 poker game.

How do you "win" Monopoly? I always thought the game just went on and on until everyone lost consciousness or you punched the shiat out of another player after landing on their hotel-riddled Boardwalk for the fifth time.

I am somewhat partial to Illuminolopy, myself.

It's not 'house rules' if the rules are all written down in advance for everyone to see and refer to, see?

And you can take your "Free Parking" jackpot and shove it. It's not the "Win PowerBall" or "Congressman owes you favors" square.
