Oh...a photograph of a monitor displaying the extreme left view of a man's head. That is apparently Jesus. I guess Print Screen was too much to ask of Our Savior.

I've liked this interpretation better from 8 years ago (new window)

i.cnn.net

/seems a little more sciency than just using the shroud of Turin (which itself is debatable) as the base

No full body shot?!

The shroud of Turin was not the burial shroud of Jesus. It was the burial shroud of a 14th century Knights Templar that was crucified in a bizzarre parody of the cruification of Jesus.

Isn't the guy from the shroud of Turin like 7 feet tall?

2010-03-27 01:16:20 AM
Jesus Christ you are hideous!

Er, I mean gorsh, you could use a makeover? Don't smite me.

2010-03-27 01:19:34 AM
I stopped reading at "This startling image was painstakingly "lifted" from the Shroud of Turin"

And if that was their source material, how do they know his eyes weren't blue? Not that I think they were, it's just the shroud is hardly going to impart that sort of information.

I mean, why don't they just do a sort of meta-analysis of all the images of Jesus that have 'appeared' in objects and figure out his appearance from that? It would be just as scientific.

It's just a model.

This show is going to make me facepalm so hard. Just like the one two weeks ago abut the shroud. There they totally ignored that the two images on the shroud, front view and back view, don't match. The back view is a few inches longer than the front view. Also the head doesn't match the body on the front view.

Judging by the enhanced images of the face from the shroud, you'd have a rather Italian looking Jesus.

Blue eyes are double recessive, and therefore highly unlikely to express in a guy with Semitic parents?

They said they used the shroud to figure out Jesus' 'real' appearance, not logic.

Oh and want to know what Jesus may have looked like? Just look at a Palestinian or Samaritan.

Jesus was a powerlifter. That guy looks wimpy.

In Turin he appears on muslin

Stick around. At the rate mankind is going, if what He said is indeed the truth, He'll be back soon.

I thought they pretty much proved the Shroud of Turin was fake?

And he certainly didn't have blue eyes.

Determining eye color from a shroud? Really? I must have missed that class in high school.

JRoo: I thought they pretty much proved the Shroud of Turin was fake?

They did. But two weeks ago they had a lovely facepalm inducing program that tried to ignore what several other programs have already said. And I think this program about Jesus' appearance is by the same people. It's airing on the same station.

Also Jesus being 5'8", not bloody likely. That would've been on the tall side for someone from his time and place. Also, the figure on the cloth is only 5'8" from the frontal view, on the rear view he's close to 6 inches taller.

Fark: The face of the real Jesus
article headline: Is this Jesus?
article: Shroud of Turin

The dumbing down just keeps getting dumber.

I'll believe it when the face of Jesus from the Shroud of Turin matches the face of Jesus that appeared in this tree (new window)

Which is the real Jesus? Maybe he'll appear in a taco next so we can really nail it down.

/yeah yeah, I know the Shroud of Turin may have been used with a real dude.
//1000 years or so too late to be Christ though....
///Really? I thought a taco was a really outlandish choice. I underestimated people. (new window)
////Where is your real Jesus now? Easter Bunny for the win! (new window)

I thought the Shroud of Turin was proven to be a fake? Still very old, but not from the time of Jesus.

2010-03-27 03:00:31 AM
Also on the shroud Jesus has long hair. Not at all likely a first century Jewish man would've had long hair. And the beard shows evidence of trimming and shaping inconsistent with first century beards. But very consistent with late middle ages/early renaissance beards.

What Jesus would have looked like...

2010-03-27 03:05:11 AM
Heheh, I remember a while ago, when the image of the 'real' Jesus was shown on TV, there was this crazy old woman right along the street that was angry at the scientists, because she said that "Jesus did not look like that, he had blue eyes, was white, and long brown hair".

Nice.

/Why yes there is racism here

See above. It's a logical assumption, but they probably made it by the most back-asswards reasoning possible.
