Shooting at it would be my preference over paddling around in shiat with a carpet knife in hand. We see enough in the papers around the four counties where farmers drown in their lagoons because of the tractor sliding in etc.

That ain't no way to end your life son

I live about 15-20 minutes north of Winchester. Might have to take a short road trip this weekend.

I'd say it got trapped after the top started drying aout and elastisized over the years and is now 99 fart balloons.

In all my years on Earth, I've never even heard of a farmer named Goldstein. Shouldn't he be doing my taxes or examining my prostate?

Now I've seen everything.

That was my first thought. Though I like the idea of sending Mike Rowe in there. I'd watch the hell out of that shiat.

The lagoons are regulated by the Dept of Environmental Management, you're talking about a pit full of manure that often doesn't have any type of liner in it; so ground water contamination is a major concern.

1. His farm (and all of the countryside for oh, 10 miles, downwind) must smell FABULOUS.

2. He clearly needs some of the product mentioned in the very next link on the main page.

3. Shame on the Modmins for not tying the two together in some obvious way.

Were it not for this article, I'd have gone the rest of my life without hearing the phrase "poop blimp"...

...and considering how much fun my imagination's havin' with that mental picture, I really wish I had!

I did a GIS for "poop blimp" (I also have a strong stomach), and it looks like rule 34 hasn't reached this far. Plenty of pictures of poop and blimps, but no combination of the two.

/"poop blimp" is just fun to say

My favorite part of this story is the featured comment from the Journal's "Community," which comes courtesy of Malcolm Acon Laws:

Why not use the methane gas to produce electricity and sell it to a utility? It would be carbon neutral and maybe even profitable. I think this is a lost opportunity for this farmer to generate some income.

Glad to hear that anonymous guy on the Internet has done a cost-benefit analysis of the amount of carbon produced by constructing the equipment to harvest the bubbles.

But then, in 2006, "small bubbles began poking up" in those lagoons. Those bubbles are now "the size of small houses." Those bubbles "are big enough to be seen in satellite photos."

I'm all over Google maps looking for those.

2010-03-26 06:49:16 PM
I don't understand why someone would stand outside a lagoon entirely full of poop and think "hey, I need to paddle out into that with a knife to pop bubbles."

Does he not own a shotgun?
