No, its not. I still have to pop open IE to view the page due to adblock.

IF Sinestro's power is in fact just a manipulation of the light spectrum, and not based on a mental attack, then there is NOTHING Magneto can do to stop it. He has shields to block many kinds of attacks, but to actually stop LIGHT from getting in? I don't think so.

Wow, Tony is a farking mouthbreather.

Wait, this is even a question? Sinestro. Power ring, and formerly the mightiest of Lanterns before Kyle Rayner showed up, vs. a guy who can control magnetism? Jeez, I'm a Marvel guy and even I think Sinestro is going to wipe the floor with Magneto.

Does Sinestro have iron in his blood?

It's tough, actually. Magnetism is a strong force in the universe. If Magneto really had full control over it, it is a very formidable power indeed. That's based off the science.

Sinestro's power, is somewhat science based in that it is light. The whole fear thing is something else entirely.

Too hard to figure out as they both don't follow the same rules and limitations.

Sinestro, easily. Atrocitus vs Magneto would be cooler.

Magneto can only control metal. Sinestro can make anything with his power ring. A giant fist to squash Magneto. Sinestro wins.

this

as to weather Sinestro's blood is Iron based is unknown. However Lanterns fight in space even near stars they can resist any magnetic field magneto can produce.

However it would be a fun fight to watch.

Sinestro is going to win this. A large yellow force field bubble to protect him from any flying metal projectiles, and any sort of weapon he can imagine is finally going to do what the x-men cannot, defeat Magneto once and for all.

/sadly Astroid M will then crash down to earth, killing all the spectators.

If I were Magneto with two days of preparation, I'd paint myself green. Then I'd send some sharpened green-colored steel rebar spinning into Sinestro's ring arm. Arm off, ring off. Magneto wins.

Maestro vs. Sinestro.

Or, if you want it that way, Red Hulk vs. Sinestro.

/I'd also pit Amadeus Cho vs. Batman

Magneto.

Yep, Magneto.

Sinestro (IIRC) has a ring powered by fear. Magneto is not afraid. Dude lived through the Nazis and went on to be one of the most feared men on the planet. He can screw with our magnetic poles. The chances of him being afraid of some goofy alien with a ring are low.

Now, Sinestro in an SS uniform with some kind of power-inhibition set-up? Now we're talking.

It works on Sinestro's ability to manipulate that portion of the emotional spectrum, not his ability to make Magneto afraid.

Sinestro would mop the floor with him.

But how does he manipulate it? Harsh words?

Again Magneto isn't afraid of jack farking shiat and considers himself the pinnacle of evolution. And if you say waves or some shiat like that, remember the guy has a helmet that can keep even level 5 mutants out of his head.

Eh...long story (hopefully) short. In the DCU there's an emotional spectrum that corresponds with visible light. Fear is associated with yellow. It exists because of all living things. The ability to "cause great fear," in general, is channeled through a yellow power battery to the yellow ring and allows Sinestro and his corp to manifest that light into whatever they wish. It's science in the DCU. It's not dependent on any one specific person's fear. Fear exists, Sinestro can control it well. He's also more than capable of manipulating willpower and, now, the white light (all emotions combined).

If it worked the way some people are claiming it does, then Green Lanterns would gain power over people by causing them to have willpower, and that doesn't make a bit of sense.

/inb4 none of this makes sense.

2010-03-26 01:32:02 PM
GL Corps rings prevent mortal harm when the wearer can concentrate (IE not knocked out). Assuming Sinestro Corps rings have the same ability, I don't really see what Magneto can do. And yes, Sinestro Corps rings are powered by fear, but generic fear. It doesn't have to embody HIS fear, and I disagree about Magneto having none (he experienced the Holocaust, that's a fear, at least I think in 616... that is what we're assuming right?).

Anyway, I think Sinestro has a very good chance. Magneto can call in a lot of help, but top to bottom, I think we'll assume Sinestro.

2010-03-26 01:34:44 PM
Serious question: If Magneto's power is truly over magnetism, and Sinestro's power is truly accomplished via light, why couldn't Magneto simply disrupt the magnetic force that allows light to propagate as both a wave and a particle? No propagation == no power, right?

/has never read a comic book

2010-03-26 01:35:39 PM
As far as I know, the Yellow Ring does derive its power from its opponent's levels of fear. Magneto wouldn't have any fear and even if he did, his helmet prevents him from being mentally manipulated or having his thoughts and emotions read. Even if he did fear Sinestro, the helmet would block Sinestro from using that fear.

Mangeto has two days to prepare, which gives him two days to acquire a Blue Ring as well. Instant win if he can.

Magneto can manipulate electricity as well as magnetism and can shield himself from all forms of matter and energy. I can't see why this would exclude the light that the Yellow Ring would produce.

And of course, since this is no holds barred, if there is anything metallic in Sinestro's body or ring, Magneto would concentrate his powers to use that as a weapon.

Magneto wins easily, especially considering he has two days to plan. This will go down to Magneto vs. Dr. Doom.

2010-03-26 01:36:17 PM
Magneto is tough. Sinestro is tougher. Sinestro is a planet travelling, epic adversary. Magneto is of a lesser power scale. Magneto loses, because it is the wrong fight for him.

Now, give them teams to lead, or battles to plan..Magneto.

2010-03-26 01:37:02 PM
Magneto's helmet prevents telekenisis attacks - such as intimidation and fear projection.

Magneto can manipulate light**...Sinestro's powers are based on light.

Sinestro's ring can be disrupted by the presence of a blue energy ring. Could Magneto find a Blue Lantern to be present in the stadium? Magneto doesn't have a corresponding 'Big Weakness'...he is usually not quite ruthless enough (not willing to kill Xavier or Wolverine etc etc) or his Ego gets in the way of his victories.

I give the edge to Magneto, but not fully knowing the nature of Sinestro's energy (might be uneffected by Magneto) and assuming that Magneto couldn't find a Blue Lantern in 2 days gives an opening to Sinestro.

**
Magneto power list^
Although Magneto’s primary power is control over magnetism, he can also project or manipulate any form of energy that is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, including visible light, radio waves, ultraviolet light, gamma rays, and x-rays.

Well if we want to get all scientificy here goes

Since Magneto controls magnetism in all its wonderful forms technically speaking he also has control over the ability to create a Faraday effect and quite possibly effect fields to manipulate and effect change to light.

But I think we're getting ahead of ourselves. Unless that ring and battery are plastic (along with everything else on him) Sinestro is going to be in a world of hurt.

2010-03-26 01:39:00 PM
Magneto would pull the ring off his finger. Then pull the iron out of his liver.

Game over, man.

2010-03-26 01:39:34 PM
we've seen Green Lantern's powers bounce off electromagnetic shields, and magic defenses, and invisible force barriers. i'm presuming that anything that could stop a GL effect could stop a YL effect, so let's have none of this "haha, visible light gets through Magneto's shield" guff.

having all your power come from a ring that can be taken away is too big of a weakness in a match like this. it doesn't even have to have ferrous components in it. if the ring has *any* conductive material, it would be in Magneto's hand ... possibly with Sinestro's finger still in it.

next week should last about 3 seconds, huh? Doom dissected and analyzed Klaw; he knows his sonics. XD

Magneto is probably the most powerful villain in Marvel Universe aside from Galactus, Thanos, Mephisto and Dormamu...
