jbc: How long before the teabaggers condemn literacy?

Didn't...didn't that already happen? I mean, have you read their manifestos (okay, random scrawls on napkins from Golden Corral) or their signs?

Star Wars Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy is amazing.

No, that's just refusing to embrace literacy on a personal. I'm expecting some of these Palin-Americans to come out and say having an elected official buy books for kids is evil. It's government indoctrination or some other ridiculous WHARRGARBL.

/On the other hand, they think reading My Pet Goat to them is heroic.

Me, too - and donated a copy for my school library.

Typical callous limousine liberal. People all over this country are suffering (financially now, medically as soon as ObamaCare takes effect) and he has the audacity to make huge, discretionary purchases like this publicly.

/going to go take a shower now

Great, libs are bribing children now. Is their no depths you won't sink too?

And how much money did he cost the store by having to have it closed down while he shopped? And did he use taxpayer money for this purchase? Why doesn't he just have the bookstore owner redistribute the books to his friends, you know he wanted to. Probably kills him to help a business out rather than destroy it. Typical wasteful lib, he could have given Gibbs' son directions to a libary for free, and he thinks he can run my healthcare?

Isn't that, like, 2 books?

Not bad. "Destroy it" could have been a lot more, though. "Tax it into the ground" or something something green technology.

How dare that elitist force his fancy book learnin' on s defenseless child. Unless it's a Bible. Then it's OK.

Wow! That is really cool! I'm gonna run right out and burn a bible, kill a baby and hang a life-sized portrait of Nancy Pelosi in my dining room!

Prairie Lights bookstore is awesome. It's nowhere near the level of Powell's or [insert favorite bookstore here] but it is awesome.

He also paid for a "Star Wars" pop-up book for the 6-year-old son of White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.

And the surprise is ruined.

In other news, the bar has been lowered so far that it is now newsworthy when the President visits a bookstore.

Reminds me of Bill Hick's "reader" bit.

I was in Nashville, Tennesee last year, after the show I went to a Waffle House, I'm not proud of it, I was hungry. And I'm alone, I'm eating and I'm reading a book, right? Waitress walks over to me, "Tch tch tch tch. Hey, what you readin' for?"

Is that like the weirdest farking question you've ever heard? Not what am I reading, but what am I reading for. Well, godammit, you stumped me. Why do I read?...Well... hmmm... I guess I read for a lot of reasons, and the main one is so I don't end up being a farking waffle waitress.

Pretty sneaky, too. Using books to distract them from their Xbox.

Yeah but then he went to the cafe, spent 2 bucks on a decaf and sat at the best table for 4 hours, sucking down free wifi and doing some work stuff but mostly shopping for new shoes and seeing what his old neighbor dave was up to on facebook.

i don't care if you're the president YOU'RE HOGGING THE OUTLET.

The sad thing is, the books that Obama bought are challenging for the average Republican voter, for this reason:

$37.44? That's it? That's all he spent?

So much for stimulating the economy. I bet George W. spent more at bookstores than that.

I'm surprised our usual bands of Republicans, Libertarians, and/or Fark IndependentsTM haven't popped into this thread with some silly comment.

This is change I can believe in.

When he "gives" me a 50% income tax cut, then I will classify him as a real cool motherfarker.
