Let's use their honest and straightforward manner against them. Jail will make them violent, take away their innocent trust, and also provide opportunities to network with other enemies of the state.

They were makin' their way the only way they know how. Even if that is just a little bit more than the law will allow.

That's because -- and I'm not shiatting you -- if this had happened on I-40 there's a good chance the cops would have just stomped the dope out on the road with their boots, smashed the pipes, made them unload the gun and put it in the trunk, written them tickets for the tags and tint and sent them on their way.

They were upfront about the weapons, which aren't unusual in and of themselves in Tennessee, and they didn't try to lie to the officers, which goes a long way with police under any circumstances.

For all the horror stories you'll hear in the cop-hate threads, there actually are some decent human beings out there with a badge who will cut your dumb ass some slack if you treat them with respect.

As a Tennessean, I feel obligated to correct NJ law enforcement officers by saying that "good ol' country boys" don't go driving around with handguns, bowls, and blunts in Acura Integras.

They drive around in trucks, with cheap beer, moonshine, or bourbon, with rifles and/or shotguns, and think "blunts" are the opposite ends of their hunting knives.

Johnny Depp is from TN?

I'm not sure what part of Tennessee you are referring to, but it sounds like you have seen too many movies.

I realize that it's only shading in that photo, but it gives a real impression of unibrow. And it looks oddly appropriate.

I think they are confusing honesty with simplicity. Was 'Rocky Top' blaring from the cassette player??? Or 'Dueling Banjo's'?

I thought Johnny Depp lived in France, not Tennessee.

I can fault them for marajuana, but not for disclosing the concealed weapon. Shame on NY for not honoring TN's concealed carry permit.

Should have brushed up on their carry permit laws. Where as TN honors another states carry permit, NJ doesn't honor anyone else's. They don't play nice with other states :-/

lol, never mind that 2/3's of TN is NOT in the "hills", assuming that he was referring to The Great Smoky Mountains, the most visited national park in the country. And for the uneducated...when referring to The Great Smoky Mountains, there is no 'e' in Smoky.

Inaccurate journalist is inaccurate. New York state offers reciprocity to Tennessee conceal carry permit holders.

Conceal Carry Reciprocity by State

Of course these guys are still screwed since they had drugs and will lose their permits along with some other privleges/freedoms.

Unless, of course, your car had let's say NY or CA plates on it. Then the cops might have stomped you out with their boots, smashed your heads, put you in the trunk of the car and been on their way.

Really, they may not be able to charge them with carrying concealed weapons but they can still charge them for the drugs. Also aren't those drugs illegal in Tennessee in which case they could have been arrested in their own home state for this.

Thanks, I was trying to call bullshiat on that, but the link was blocked by work. NJ has some very strict carry laws. It wouldn't make much sense to honor permits from states that don't.

You gotta remember, in NJ "illegal window tinting" is grounds for a full vehicle search.

/nope, not joking

They were stupid for not having their car legal, not for confessing to their criminal behavior.

Once they were pulled over, the cops were going to find the other stuff. In their case it was better to tell them about it. You'd just piss off a cop if they find a loaded gun you didn't tell them about.

They probably would've gotten a ticket in Tennessee for the license plate and gone on their way. He presented his permit as he would in Tennessee or any of the multiple states that accept their permit so the gun wouldn't have even raised an eyebrow. Now they get to go to jail where they'll come out a much greater threat to society than when they went in. Well done!

Actually, yea, he has. I LIVE in the Smoky Mountains, I can't think of one person here that is like he described. I know some "country" people and none of them are that stupid. That's not saying that there are NO stupid people here, but there are stupid people everywhere.

There are bills being considered, that would make NJ respect TN conceal carry laws. I personally think that Conceal Carry permits are a bad idea. I don't think the Federal OR State Governments should be able to tell us that we can or can't carry. SCOTUS partially agrees in Parker v. District of Columbia.

But considering they are in NJ, and most things are against the law there (and yes, I have been there), they will probably spend more time in jail, just from being from the south.
