Here's the difference between this guy and the five professional politicians he's running against. They making their living slinging B.S.; he makes his living listening to it.

...and his brewery.

"I went down to Captain Tony's, to get out of the heat, I heard a voice call out to me, son come have a seat"

too obscure?

2003-04-29 01:41:24 AM
Go down to the old pub instead.

2003-04-29 01:42:13 AM
Free beer for everyone !!! YAH VOTE FOR ME!!!!

2003-04-29 01:42:19 AM
WIth less than 50% of the vote, Denver election laws call for a runoff between the top two. This guy could, in fact, wind up losing to Mares. In fact, outgoing Mayor Webb won his first election this way. He came in second in the original vote, but then beat his opponent in the runoff.

2003-04-29 01:42:39 AM
Does this mean I have to register to vote?

2003-04-29 01:52:47 AM
Well, you since you need to be drunk to live in Denver, why not?

2003-04-29 01:53:23 AM
With a name like Hickenlooper (giggle, giggle), you can'nt go wrong.

2003-04-29 02:04:32 AM
When I worked downtown, the company I worked for used to hold all-hands meetings at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, frequently accompanied with beer and other refreshments, free pool, and so forth. Nice place. (I don't live in the City of Denver, so I can't vote for Hickenlooper, but if I could, I probably would.)

2003-04-29 02:07:40 AM
I'm actually moving to Denver from Aurora in about a month, so we'll see.

And is that really a pic of him?

2003-04-29 02:32:11 AM
I don't want to ask how this beer got its name.

2003-04-29 02:39:55 AM
Yep, that's really his picture. More about his campaign here. He's been endorsed by both of the city's major newspapers as well as the "official" city magazine, 5280. I'm votin' for him.

2003-04-29 02:52:45 AM
Seriously, the town I'm from has a ice cream truck driver running for mayor. He'll probably win because in the last 8 years a new mayor has been elected each year. Hell, he's got my vote.

In 50\/137 RU5514, the pubs own the people.

2003-04-29 03:59:50 AM
i guess hunter s. thompson was not available to run.
at least this guy has cleaned up part of town as opposed to politicians who merely talk about it.

2003-04-29 04:04:07 AM
Portland elected Bud Clark in the 80's. He owned a tavern and rode around town on a bike shouting woo woo. He actually did a competent job running the city.

I too was thinking of Captain Tony as I read this. Nice little place in Key West.

beer is queer. it makes me leer.

For those of you not familiar with Denver, you need to understand that the mayoral election boils down to which egg sucking liberal wins. We've been californicated.

BillCo
We've been californicated
Denver's always been further left than the rest of the (very conservative) state. (Boulder excepted, of course.) If you want to talk about how we've been californicated, take a look at the sprawl in the suburbs and foothills. Makes me sad.

2003-04-29 09:52:53 AM
Sweet. I don't know what kind of mayor he'd make, but I used to play on the pool league there and they'd give us free beer. Nice place to play pool if you're in Denver.

So true, BillCo

What's even more sad is the fact that Hickenlooper's main platform is to reduce the multi-million dollar deficit by reducing parking meter fees. He knows dick about politics, and will probably win. Couple that with a brand new City Council, and it spells disaster.

2003-04-29 10:29:27 AM
I used to work for this guy. He's pure evil...think Montgomery Burns without the comedy. He's this wanna-be tyrannical dictator who screws over everyone who works for him at every turn.

Is he worse than the other candidates? No idea. But I wouldn't vote for him for all the overpriced microbrew in the world.

2003-04-29 10:30:17 AM
Just to spite them, I moved from Denver to California.
Wynkoop is a fine place. But I really miss the New Belgium beers, which you can't buy in CA.

2003-04-29 10:53:55 AM
OK a poll of 300 people?? Let me see if I can find 300 people that would vote for me as well... Now I don't live "In Denver" but I think he is the best man for the job anyways.... I just love what he did to LODO.....

2003-04-29 01:01:37 PM
This is nothing new for the freaks out there.

This man almost got elected sheriff on the FREAK POWER ticket.

If I could link images properly you would see a pic of HST.

Randonnee - I was born and raised in the Denver metro area. Going on 48 years now (yeah, I'm an old fart). You don't need to tell me how much the growth in this city sucks.

Ass_Master-
You ate the Last Mango in Paris?

2003-04-29 03:38:28 PM
Hickenlooper may not be the ideal candidate for mayor, but he's gotta be better than Webb, whose cronyism and corruption is obvious to everyone. Maybe at least we'd get to park downtown for an hour without shelling out $5 for a meter.

2003-04-29 04:45:58 PM
Oh for God's sake. Just because the guy deals in the selling of alcohol, it automatically gets a "Cool" tag? Just follow the sheep: "Beer is awesome!! You are awesome of you drink and/or are involved with alcohol!!" Also, I'm tired of seeing a "Hero" tag whenever a story about some guy and alcohol gets posted. It's like the poster is trying to "look cool" in front of his fellow farkers.

Sorry, that was just pissing me off.

Bud Clark was a very popular Mayor here in Portland. As a related side note, he was the guy in the hat and overcoat flashing a statue in the "Expose yourself to Art" poster. Ahhhh good ol' Bud.

"We've been californicated" - a myth. Most immigrants to Denver in the last 20 years come from the Midwest. And they all want water for their overly-green lawns and gardens, along with an SUV to get through the ass-deep snow (ha, once in every 10 years). Colorado's becoming increasingly Republican...we need more lobotomists.
